"This seems to be the house outlet and cafe for Sussex Charmer cheese. Easy to find; just briefly head northwards off the A281 at Rudgwick. Situated on the site of a former brickworks, there's plenty of parking (with many potholes therein). A surprisingly large floorplan includes an attractive elevated terrace which must be very pleasant in warm weather. It being January, like most others, we sought shelter in the rather spartan, and not much warmer, indoor seating area. The menu is basic cafe fare, but understandably predicated on the core product although there are various other options provided by local suppliers. Ordering is done via friendly girls at the till situated at one end of the open kitchen, and what a spotless kitchen it looked too. Mrs EPR endorsed the signature choice of Sussex Charmer on toast. I was equally impressed by my Sussex Bacon roll four slices of top quality back bacon in a soft and squishy roll. However, as any fule no, a bacon roll needs the ketchup of choice and there was none. So I requested some, it was duly acknowledged and then subsequently ignored. So, rather tediously, I had to go and find some for myself but it was well worth it. There is a small amount of retail activity on site, but it is rather minimal and they certainly don't push their own or any other local product as much as might be expected. This location is also handy for the adjacent Firebird brewery which is definitely worth a visit."

Perfect spot for a brunch with friends. The bacon rolls were absolutely delicious and we also purchased some cheese to enjoy at home. Highly recommend!

We enjoyed cheese on toast with pancetta and onion chutney, coffees, cake, and juice at this restaurant and everything was absolutely delicious. We will definitely be returning for another visit.

This is my second visit recently so was happy to be back. Amazing Tickler cheese on toast with Pancetta and excellent coffee. It's not the cheapest of places but the food and service are very good. Visualizza piatti

Great food and service. Cheese on toast with optional fillings great! And very tasty…… Have been there twice recently and once 5 years ago. A good place to visit and obviously very popular judging by the numbers coming and going……

This was my first time visiting this restaurant and it definitely won't be my last. I was pleasantly surprised by the delicious toasted cheese sandwich they served, it was absolutely brilliant. The coffee was also super strong and well-made. Excellent job overall!

The best cheese on toast you will ever eat. Their Sussex Charmer cheese is beautiful. You can have an array of different accompaniments served by the friendly and helpful staff. The outside seating area is lovely in the summer and the conservatory area is prefect in the cold or wet. I have been several times and left feeling full and happy. Visualizza piatti

We were told about this place from the owner of dairy cottage where we were staying . Was surprised how busy it was had a very good cup of coffee and then looked around their shop, we bought their famous cheese and tried a free piece of it which was really tasty, mix of a strong cheddar and a touch of parmigiana strong but delicious Well worth a visit to try this delicious cheese

On recommendation from some friends, I visited here for a quick lunch to sample some of their Sussex Charmer on toast. I had a sample of both the onion marmalade and charmer pickle and both were very pleasant. However, I felt that it was quite expensive for what it was. The milkshake was also quite expensive at £4.30 and was remarkably similar to Nesquik. The view from the cafe could not be described as charming. However, beautiful hanging baskets do mask the car park and the array of pot holes. That said, it was looking very popular with cyclists and walkers who perhaps saw something I didn’t!

"My mother and I had been following the Masterchef Pro comp ' last year and were really keen to sample some of the winner, Tom Hamblet 's, food. We travelled a 4 hour round trip for the experience. We don 't eat at fine dining restaurants often but we are foodies. Firstly, the setting of the restaurant is very lavish and comfortable with warm low lighting. That said, the dinner experience was a little too dark for my mother so that 's something to think about if you struggle with eyesight and low lighting. The service was friendly, attentive and speedy/efficient. The food: I 'll start with the dessert because that was a real pleasure for us. We both loved the flavours of Tom 's end of series winning dessert so the meal ended on a high (we ordered the Olive Oil sponge with lemon curd). I recommend not ruining your palette with the overly sweet petit four that are placed in front of you following dessert unfortunately ours were more sugar flavoured than any other identifiable flavour. Our starters and mains were very VERY underwhelming. They arrived looking beautiful, neat and tidy but failed to deliver on taste. I had wanted the celeriac themed starter but the waiting staff told me the vegan/veggie starters and mains were created by their head chef and not Tom. That was disappointing as his 3 month residency was the reason we 'd visited the restaurant. We ended up both having the lobster starters after the waiting staff recommended it highly as either a starter or an additional dish to share. The claw meat was minimal and tough and the foam mousse took centre stage on the plate. Whilst the plate had lots of textures to it, we felt it was unbalanced and generally with no 'wow ' to it. We enjoyed the coffee and rye bread with butter and pollen/fennel that came prior to this thought. I ordered the Guinea Fowl as a main after the waiter described it as a gamey, dark and tender meat. I feel like a better description to someone that hasn 't had guinea fowl before would be 'it 's like a chicken breast with a different flavour '. This is what arrived in front of me and I actually found it was quite dry and not dark at all! I would never have ordered anything that resembled chicken breast anyway so I felt ill informed about my choice. I also thought the girolles were overwhelmingly tart. I didn 't enjoy my main. Mum 's Hogget was nice but average for her too. Last comment I 've never in my life paid £6.50 for less than 1.5ltrs mineral water beware! I don 't care how much money you have it 's water!!!"
