The Mill At Elstead

The restaurant is located in an incredible historic building and is dog-friendly. The service is speedy and efficient, with a good variety of draft ales and Sunday roasts. It is a fantastic spot to visit during the summer months.

Mother’s Day is one of the busiest restaurant days in the year and the place was obviously packed. Have to admit that they organized themselves well with extra young staff…BUT the quality was mediocre for the price, the presentation and offer very poor, the choice of table setting extra poor, the service was fast but kind of rude and they were clearly not stocked for the day: no coke bottles, no eldelflower… honestly, not worth.

Very sadly, this beautiful venue has gone down hill in my opinion. My friends and I have been coming here for several years and the last time before this, I was not sure. This latest trip has confirmed my thoughts. No staff when we arrived, but eventually somebody appeared and showed us to our table. Our waiter was very friendly and quick to serve. The food, however, was at best, lackluster. I had the vegetarian burger which was flat with the bun, it was probably 1cm in height. A few chips on a plain plate £15. I could have got better at 5 Guys. My friends were happy with their dishes. One had Fish and chips and the other, pork chop. I found the whole pub cold and without atmosphere. Visualizza piatti

How the Mill has changed since our last visit. Maybe the clue being the car park was half full, if that. We were shown to a cold dark room, table that had only been laid for three, when we booked for four ! We waited over 15mins for a member of staff to approach ’take a drinks order. We actually gave our food order at the same time as it was clear they were understaffed. Still a further wait for drinks, in fact the whole experience was a waiting game. We felt the food was very overpriced, was nothing special either. £9.50 for a finger slice of Bakewell tart ! Sadly there won’t be a return visit for us. I took my grandchildren to see a pantomime and have a meal afterwards. Unfortunately, we were seated at the back, which made it difficult for the children to see the show properly. The lighting also projected the backdrop onto the actors' faces, further hindering their view. The lack of a stage and interaction with the actors was disappointing. It would have been nice if the children attending could have sat up front instead of the adults, some of whom did not have children with them. The restaurant is much more beautiful in person than in photos. It is a lovely building located by a river, complete with a working water wheel inside. The surrounding fields and rustic charm of the barn-like structure with exposed brickwork and wooden beams add to the ambiance. The staff were friendly and accommodating, especially with handling my coeliac disease. They were thorough in explaining their procedures to prevent cross contamination and even provided me with their allergy matrix. Goodness me but we 've just had a horrible lunch. We 've visited The Mill many times over the years and went for lunch today. Three vegetarian options, but one wasn 't available. So two options a warm cauliflower dish or a burger. Reluctantly we chose the burger. A lifelong vegetarian I 've eaten a veggie burger or two but my word this one was horrible. 'Gloopy ' was the best description I can give. With a bit of tomato and a bit of spinach and a small pot of chips. £16.50!! So £33 for two nasty burgers and a bottle of tap water. Went with a former colleague for lunch. The building is nice, the beer was fine and the service was OK. But ... There was annoying muzak. At one point it got so loud I couldn't hear my friend talk. Perhaps someone complained because they turned it down. We were sitting by a pair of doors to the outside that was designated as an emergency exit. It was actually bolted shut. People kept wanting to use it and unbolted it, but one door was sticking and the doors wouldn't close properly except by opening both doors and closing them together. My daughters, their husbands and I decided to have Christmas Dinner out, for the first time this year. After spending the best part of a day trying to choose a suitable venue, I decided on booking The Mill at Elstead, as the restaurant had good reviews, the Christmas menu looked very good and the main reason; the wonderful Charlotte who was very helpful and accommodating and remained so during numerous phone calls and emails leading up to the day.
