"On a Whisky tour we arrive early at our destination. The receptionist suggested we go into Tain.We parked in the centre of Tain and almost stumbled on the Sunflower by accident. The cafe was very small, seating no more than 16 and at first glance I thought we would have to wait for a seat but we given the last table towards the back. The menu was simple and everything very well priced.I had already even before entering decided I would have the broccoli and cheese soup which was advertised on a small notice in the window. My brother went for a scone and both of us had cappuccino coffees.Apart from the butter and coffees everything else was clearly home made. The soup and bread were marvellous whilst the scone and raspberry jam were likewise.I did remark to one of the assistants that the soup should not have been called broccoli and cheese but broccoli and cheese and more cheese Coming from Aberdeen and York regrettably means I am unlikely to be able to drop in when passing very often but I will certainly recommend the Sunflower to any one I know going in the Tain direction. The true irony of the visit to the area is that we both spoke far more about the Sunflower for the rest of our whisky tour than we did about the distillery which I should add was very good."

Such a great find in tiny Tain. This little cafe has wonderful food and a super friendly owner/waitress. The best tattie (potato) scone I’ve ever had and probably the best breakfast I’ve had throughout my four weeks in the UK. My fiancé loved their vegetarian breakfast as well. Really good prices. You can’t go wrong. Definitely come here.

Sunflowers is in an exceptional site in the middle of town. It serves great tea, coffee, hot chocolate etc and a nice tight range of breakfasts and other coffee shop type food. The music is all from the 50s 60s 70s and 80s. It is very cozy. My favourite is the macaroni cheese, salad and chips washed down with Irn Bru. Just remember though they only take cash-no cards accepted, not even debit cards. This is a very special place.

"Glorified Public School Dinner food hiding behind a beautiful scenic dining area. Server wasn 't too bothered about their job, kinda like it doesn 't matter what food they did and didn 't have in that day. Seemed very excited when leaving the table to tend an empty bar. Didn 't ask once if food was okay, if they had I 'd of mentioned the myriad of wrongs occurring upon the three plates in front of us. Ordered from evening menu, beef burger, chicken burger and garlic bread. The former two came with undercooked chips (as if the fryer was just turned on for our meal), pale onion rings, two dimensional tomato slices (two of per burger), two measly leafs of lettuce and no house sauce of any kind. I 've had tastier PVA glue than the coleslaw. My partners chips were akin to hash browns but undercooked. The beef burger had one thing going for it, there was Infact beef on it. The chicken burger my partner had was tasteless and fell apart. Garlic bread appeared to be some kind of muffin or cinnamon swirl that was re purpoused for our order. Aside it was a teeny tiny salad, which actually contained a highlight from my experience: red onion that actually tasted of onion/unlike the onion dense coleslaw. All in all, me and my partner left feeling like our local kebab shop would have left us more impressed. As we were leaving the server told us she didn 't mind that there was some issues with the card reader as it 'filled her time as she has nothing else to do '. It should be noted they were wearing their outside clothes and served us with the jacket on. Chef was seen at bar after meal, standing not doing much. The main concern for the staff appeared to be; what music was being played as they skipped through the world 's most disorganised playlist (no, no one wants to listen to loch lomond while they are eating). Speaking as a working chef, I feel my wife could cook a better meal with half the ingredients and equipment than this 'professional ' kitchen can. The opertunity to do better is overwhelming, however it will take a long time before you convince me to enter with an empty stomach again. Wheelchair accessibility: It 's not friendly for those that are handicapped in any way. Steep narrow stairs and difficult to navigate room space."
