The Volunteer - Menu

Excellent location with plenty of space inside and out, friendly staff and great food.

Pretty pub in gorgeous area, we found it rather expensive for pub food but having said that it was decent food and the staff were friendly.

The sitting area in the garden has lovely views to the hilltops, really pretty. The menu is a little bit restricted in choices but tastes delicious.

beautiful land pub with large garden (and good intention), a little stream through. arty decor inside with really good value eating. friendly staff and very dog friendly (our dogs were offered today fried beef). come back.

Did not appreciate having my card held behind the bar for the duration of the visit. Never happened before and was uncomfortable with the tactic. Spoke to the waitress who said it was normal practice which was not true on the last three visits to the Volunteer, otherwise very happy.

on the way back from a walk in the hills of surrey. beautiful charming little pub with quirky decor and an open fire. really good eating menu with much to choose, I had a chicken ranch burger and I was not disappointed the size of it! with a huge part of the fraught 3x what they would get in the rule in a pub. my kerl had a pizza and dirty pommes and he was equally impressed good portions and tasted excellent. personal nice, polite and informative. beer was a beautiful drop, the usual selection that they expect from a h

We booked in advance, letting the pub know that there were a number of vegetarians in the party, and I was really impressed when on arrival the vegetarian options from the menu had been summarised on a hand written personal 'menu ' so that it was easier for us to spot them. I thought that was impressive customer care. The garden was lovely, the food was excellent (HUGE burger; tasty falafel salad, very nice vegetarian tart and skin on chips) and the service friendly. It also felt very Covid secure. We 'll definitely be back when we 're walking in the area!

We enjoyed our meal but the early lunch-time booking meant we were the only people in the pub restaurant eating for most of the time. Nonetheless the baked camembert, king prawns and steak and kidney pudding were all good. We have used this restaurant previously but on this occasion we felt the Volunteer was only just getting back in to the swing of things after the various Covid lockdown challenges. In our recollection the menu choices were significantly reduced from previous occasions. However, their range of draught beers is still impressive for a small village pub.

Booked table online in advance. Were able to choose between an inside or outside table on arrival. Large outdoor grassy space under trees. We sat outside in the evening sunshine nice view of the pretty neighbouring houses and sheep in the fields. Tables were well spaced, and not particularly busy (BH Sunday evening). Some people had their dogs with them. Family friendly; have separate menu for little children. Our children were each given a 'gift box ' with a colouring book and crayons. We wanted burgers and pizza, but had missed the kitchen stop for burgers. We queried this as the website had not mentioned this, and the staff were very accommodating.
