Trattoria Nel Castagneto

purtoppo il giorno di Natale la trattoria ebbe un brutto incidente di natura incendiaria. Vorrei che tornassi presto in affari.

The Castagneto is a true hidden pearl in the mountains. The food is fantastic, the atmosphere welcoming, great value for money. The desserts are fabulous! It's well worth the trip.

Ormai siamo di casa, veniamo e torniamo da anni in questo ristorante. I tortellini sono buonissimi come tutta la pasta fatta in casa. Ambiente familiare e ottimo cibo e che dire di Cristina? Simpatica, dolcissima ed ospitale. Alla prossima

Ambiente semplice ma molto ben curato. Eravamo un tavolo di 10 persone, ci siamo sentiti tutti accolti e abbiamo condiviso un pranzo preparato con cibo eccellente. Si può sentire il grande impegno di coloro che svolgono questa attività in ogni sapore. Grazie mille per tutto!

We were lucky enough to get a table here on Saturday night, the first day of our holiday. Cristina was very helpful in explaining the menu to us and we made choices from the selection of freshly cooked food. The portions are ample to say the least, we were both full after the course we had first but we struggled on and had another excellent course each, followed by the most amazing panacotta. A local restaurant with no menus you eat what they have cooked that day. That was fine until we got to the pork. overcooked, rock hard and tasteless. Not sure what it was supposed to be and wish we hadn't bothered as it kind of spoilt the experience. It was very cheap though, so I suppose that makes up for it. The starter was obviously shop bought toast and focaccia which was surprising and dull. The pasta was great and plentiful. Along with the dreadful pork we were served some excellent beef. The salad and chips were basic but passable. Overall quite average.

We've enjoyed this eatery on both of our last two visits. It's simple stuff not for those wanting an extravagant fine dining experience but it's all cooked to perfection and traditional Italian cuisine. The kids clear their plate every time! The surroundings are beautiful, especially if you sit outside, and the resident cats will give you plenty of distance but are up for some attention if you're so inclined. The key upside to this place (on top of the tasty food) is the host service. An Italian lady by the name of Christina, who will give you a genuinely warm welcome and is happy to spend time chatting to you if you engage her. We visited at the end of September and getting on for the end of the season. All the restaurants we visited were quiet. But we went back to Nel Castagneto because it's excellent. I went early for a little cooking course/lesson which was the highlight of my hol. I was given a recipe book to take away with me but learned about pasta (folding tortelloni and tortellini) and more traditional recipes. Not a spag bol in sight! We then ate what we made- pizza, 4 different pastas and chocolate brownie style dessert and trifle. Stuffed!
