"2 of us popped in for a cuppa and brunch. ordered 2 pots of tea, 1 scramble egg and salmon, 1 scramble egg and avocado. Welcome was cool although seemed annoyed we had no reservation but there were tables available. Service was ok, place was noisy and busy (assumed this was a good sign) . tea served in pots with china cups and saucers, nice touch food took a while, and was disappointing, 2 slices of cheap sliced bread toasted, spoon full of scramble which was over cooked and browned. my friend had small amount of avocado and my salmon was slimy and i think cheap. We are not big eaters so didnt mind small portion, hence we didnt order full breakfasts. i would not have written a poor review, however, the Final bill £28.30?! When i checked the bill i had been charged for 2 x £4.15 avocado on toast, and 2 x £1.20 egg, 1 x smoked salmon £5.50, 1 x scramble egg £6.90 I queried this which was dealt with loudly and embarrassingly. Basically they would not accept their mistake but when the waitress asked 'would you like 2 slices or 1)? This doubles the price of your whole dish! Beware! I suggested people should be warned when ordering that your dish price will go from £4.15 to £8.30 for the extra slice! clearly a mistake but was told this is due to the cost of living going up, by an impolite antipodean lady. Since when did 1 slice of toast cost £4.15! I am really cross with myself that i paid the bill as it was with hindsight, and definitely would not return here when Sudbury has so many lovely cafe 's for brunch, we eat out a lot and happy to pay the going rate but this was ridiculous pricing. I would hope the proprietor will review this and the receipt attached in photos and at least admit a mistake was made"

"A really disappointing visit. It started poorly when after just 5 minutes we had to ask to move tables as the air con unit we were sat under was dripping on to us and the table. The people on table opposite laughed and told us that 15 minutes beforehand another party had asked to move from the same table for exactly the same reason. Bemused why the front of house gave us this table when others were available and they knew there was an issue?? Service was poor. Waiter was very pleasant. We waited what seemed an eternity (best part of 1 hour) for starters with the waiter coming over voluntarily and apologising for the delay. Starters were good. Mains were a real let down. The 2 who had the red mullet were really disappointed and both said it was bland tasting. I had the chicken and whilst it was ok it wasn’t a very exciting or tasteful dish. Cheese board was good. Two other small points but things for the restaurant to pick up on. We ordered dessert wines. A young waiter came over and said “two white wines”? We said we had ordered dessert wines and he said “ I don’t know, maybe that’s what they are”. That’s really poor for a high end expensive restaurant. Final gripe was we paid a £40 deposit. When the bill came it hadn’t been deducted. Given we were told every booking had to pay a deposit for the themed evening this should never have happened and demonstrated a lack of attention to detail. Such a shame it was a really disappointing evening especially as we have had some great meals here before. Standards seemed to have slipped and we will avoid a themed night in the future."

"I booked online for a family lunch, for eight of us, and made a special request (in one of their 'message us ' sections of the booking form, for the room where we could sit in private. Several of our party are hard of hearing which I explained. I heard nothing other than a confirmation of the booking. A week or so later, again on the booking form, using the "Manage my booking ' section, I emailed to confirm that we had a private room, but again heard nothing. Eventually we called in to make sure we had been given the room, only to be told that they had taken other bookings for the private room, but we were offered, and shown , a quiet corner of one of the dining rooms, on a round table which helps as we can lip read if we are facing each other. Turning up on the day we were casually directed to the bar where we ended up sitting on a long table, with other people around us and a fair amount of noise. Our quiet corner table was empty, but the room was cold and not prepared for us to use it. We wouldn 't have minded so much if I hadn 't sent two emails and actually gone in person to confirm a private area. The food was excellent as usual and we all enjoyed our meal, but communicating with each other was a big problem. The service was rather slow, but the food was definitely worth waiting for. Staff were apologetic, but unable to change the situation. This is the second time our booking has been mishandled, during December we also booked a table for a lunch for ten of us, only to be told on arrival that they were expecting us that evening, NOT at lunchtime. They did rise to the occasion though and supplied our lunches eventually. We did have to wait a while, but the food was very good when it came."
