"A really disappointing visit. It started poorly when after just 5 minutes we had to ask to move tables as the air con unit we were sat under was dripping on to us and the table. The people on table opposite laughed and told us that 15 minutes beforehand another party had asked to move from the same table for exactly the same reason. Bemused why the front of house gave us this table when others were available and they knew there was an issue?? Service was poor. Waiter was very pleasant. We waited what seemed an eternity (best part of 1 hour) for starters with the waiter coming over voluntarily and apologising for the delay. Starters were good. Mains were a real let down. The 2 who had the red mullet were really disappointed and both said it was bland tasting. I had the chicken and whilst it was ok it wasn’t a very exciting or tasteful dish. Cheese board was good. Two other small points but things for the restaurant to pick up on. We ordered dessert wines. A young waiter came over and said “two white wines”? We said we had ordered dessert wines and he said “ I don’t know, maybe that’s what they are”. That’s really poor for a high end expensive restaurant. Final gripe was we paid a £40 deposit. When the bill came it hadn’t been deducted. Given we were told every booking had to pay a deposit for the themed evening this should never have happened and demonstrated a lack of attention to detail. Such a shame it was a really disappointing evening especially as we have had some great meals here before. Standards seemed to have slipped and we will avoid a themed night in the future."

"I would very much like to thank: Tania, Mark, Ian, Mike and all the other staff serving up, waiting, cooking, and greeting the customers – for making sure we had such an amazing experience today. It was our first time dining at Chestnut Tree Farm. There were three of us: Myself, John (my brother in-law), and Kim (my sister). Firstly, upon entry, we were pleasantly surprised and somewhat shocked at how big this restaurant was inside, and how wonderfully the seating was set out replete with Xmas decorations. Everything looked lovely. We were greeted warmly and our booking was located quickly and efficiently with a smile. After being shown to our table, the ordering process was explained and we were left to settle ourselves in. It was very busy, but there were three young ladies serving at the bar who were very professional, very prompt and very friendly. We felt like appreciated customers. We chose a carvery meal for each of us and we're so glad we did! We all swear to God that it was the best carvery we've ever had. I had: roast gammon, roast beef, carrots, brussel sprouts, roast potatoes, new potatoes, mashed potato, pigs in blankets, yorkshire puddings, stuffing, roast parsnips, cauliflower cheese, and dauphinois potatoes. For afters I had the Eton Mess Sundae and, oh my God! It was without any shadow of a doubt the best sundae I've ever been served. What a lovely experience coming to Chestnut Tree Farm. The atmosphere was great, service was top notch, food was out of this world, and we left feeling full up, sleepy and looking forward to coming back again. Also, thank you to all the staff today. They were all so professional, quick, friendly, knowledgeable, helpful and, in our opinion, underappreciated."

"I visited The Crown yesterday evening for my son's birthday with my other sons and my partner. We have visited many times over the year the last time was last Friday for lunch and although a little on the pricey side the...food is well cooked and presented and the service excellent. Last night was a dismal occasion. I had called in the morning to reserve a table was given a time of I asked if there were vegan options and was told that there were and explained that we were celebrating a birthday too. We arrived at and were taken to our table for drinks. we then waited minutes for our order to be taken. They were very busy with another party however had I been aware that this was going to cause issues with service I would not have booked. The service was very slow, we felt ignored as other smaller tables were served far quicker. The main meals my partner and I ordered were awful my lobster and linguine were dry and tasteless clearly had sat under a heat lamp my partners piri piri spatchcock chicken was greasy and appeared to have been deep fried with no hint of piri piri. and both meals were sent back. The vegan option for a starter was broad bean soup with a cheese crouton ! So NOT vegan. My son did choose this minus the crouton and the main was a cauliflower chop on a bed of curried chickpeas that was the vegan menu again had I know this I would not have booked but was mis informed by whoever took my phone call. Although the other meals were good and the puddings excellent sadly the cheese offering was not good i have seen the cheese platter presented beautifully on previous occasions, this time it was a mess of celery and grapes with small pieces of cheese and biscuits poking through, the whole meal concluded past when I had to chase the waitress for the bill i had not intended to spend over three hours at the restaurant. There was also a reduction of for my meal although my partners had been refunded as I had chewed my way through my half lobster. Needless to say there was no recognition of my sons birthday again in times gone by there would have been. As I said before, we have been frequent visitors to this restaurant in the past but will be trying the new restaurant in the next village now, sadly."
