"I would very much like to thank: Tania, Mark, Ian, Mike and all the other staff serving up, waiting, cooking, and greeting the customers – for making sure we had such an amazing experience today. It was our first time dining at Chestnut Tree Farm. There were three of us: Myself, John (my brother in-law), and Kim (my sister). Firstly, upon entry, we were pleasantly surprised and somewhat shocked at how big this restaurant was inside, and how wonderfully the seating was set out replete with Xmas decorations. Everything looked lovely. We were greeted warmly and our booking was located quickly and efficiently with a smile. After being shown to our table, the ordering process was explained and we were left to settle ourselves in. It was very busy, but there were three young ladies serving at the bar who were very professional, very prompt and very friendly. We felt like appreciated customers. We chose a carvery meal for each of us and we're so glad we did! We all swear to God that it was the best carvery we've ever had. I had: roast gammon, roast beef, carrots, brussel sprouts, roast potatoes, new potatoes, mashed potato, pigs in blankets, yorkshire puddings, stuffing, roast parsnips, cauliflower cheese, and dauphinois potatoes. For afters I had the Eton Mess Sundae and, oh my God! It was without any shadow of a doubt the best sundae I've ever been served. What a lovely experience coming to Chestnut Tree Farm. The atmosphere was great, service was top notch, food was out of this world, and we left feeling full up, sleepy and looking forward to coming back again. Also, thank you to all the staff today. They were all so professional, quick, friendly, knowledgeable, helpful and, in our opinion, underappreciated."

Went yesterday, big portions and very nice food. We also took home a selection of their big cakes cheesecakes which were amazing. Clean and friendly atmosphere. Always happy with the service , would recommend to book a table as always busy.

Friendly staff, nice atmosphere, clean and good value for money. We had the carvery which wasn't overly warm but the meat was very well cooked and the desserts looked delicious. I would definitely return again and would be comfortable doing so as a lone traveller.

Booked table for 5 of us in advance, had shared chicken platter, lovely and hot, we had a mix of main courses, 2 of us had the carvery , 1 small and 1 regular, both were fully loaded. Desserts were huge and delicious, had the chocolate éclair and could not finish lol. Will be back again. Visualizza piatti

Went here to book a table for 2 weeks time. Tanya at reception was very helpful. It was not as busy as I thought it would be Ipswich playing at home!Stopped for a coffee, was going to have a cake, but they were all so huge and looked delicious. But in the end I decided on a Hunter's melt bap and chips, gosh it was so good. I would highly recommend this place.

We went here on a recommendation and are so pleased we did. We were a group with one wheelchair user and the whole experience was so good we went back for breakfast the next morning. Staff were terrific and dealt with a birthday cake smoothly. The food is standard gastropub fare but from a huge, varied menu at a reasonable price. Thank you for looking after us and giving us time to enjoy our celebration.

There was 6 of us booked in for Sunday lunch. Atmosphere was buzzing, lots of people and food smelled amazing. Unfortunately my food came out cold and one of the kids plates came out with half the stuff missing but this was soon rectified, hence the 4 stars. Staff were polite, friendly and working hard. We sat on table 44 and had a lovely big table by the window, it was a nice spot. We will be back again. Visualizza piatti

The food was excellent and the portions were large. I couldn’t believe how much was on my plate. It’s a busy place and quite noisy, which is to be expected as the prices are exceptionally low for what you get. The service was good and the staff work very hard to keep everyone happy. Overall experience was very good and I’d recommend the Chestnut Tree to anyone who’s a little short on cash and want a good night out. Thank you to all the hard working staff.

We went for a pre Christmas meal. There was a Christmas menu option, along with the regular menu and carvery, there was a Christmas extras menu. So several options to choose from. Everywhere was clean, with plenty of space between tables, the Christmas decorations good. The service was ok, depending who we got. The initial welcome was good with Christmas crackers being given. There is adequate parking and disabled facilities. Oh, and there is a children's area, but I didn't explore that. Everyone enjoyed their food, it was cooked well and tasty, which is the main thing. Although limited amounts of chips were given. The desert and Ice cream counter offered a wide eye, wow selection. Overall i...

"I hope we were just unlucky, and I feel sad writing this, but it wasn't the best experience this weekend. We stayed overnight and had the tasting menu. The Creppy family are departed a while now, and the staff such as Henri that stayed on are long gone, they set unbelievably high standards which were always going to be hard to meet. We loved the room we stayed in, but the rest of the experience was a bit awkward. I feel sorry for them as it was super hot and it must be difficult to get staff at the moment, but when you have paid £500 for one night and food inc wine then things can be a bit disappointing. From the start we could tell that they were under the cosh, the manager was sick, and we were told repeatedly how busy they were tonight. We asked to eat 30 mins later than booked which they said would help. We ordered a half bottle of champagne but had to wait about 15 minutes as the fridge was broken at it would not be cold. It arrived and wasn't cold enough really, then after 10 minutes in the ice bucket it was. Simultaneously other guests were told the coffee machine was also broken. A bit of a shame as we were celebrating a birthday and it sort of spoiled the moment waiting for a drink. Then ordered a 2014 Pomerol which to be honest I found really rather average, but that is the luck of the draw. The food was quite good, but only one course impressed us, the trout was good. The staff seem very downbeat to the point of it being awkward, one told us and another table to make as much mess as we like as it was her last shift. Others seemed very awkward and lacking confidence/a smile. Again, hard to get quality staff at the moment, but there seemed to be a lack of pride/confidence in what is being delivered. I also asked for cheese to finish off, in the past they had a glorious cheese cart with a huge selection of great cheeses. I accept maybe it was too hot for this, but I was simply given a plate of three cheeses, no one asked me if I would like to choose anything or for example do I like blue cheese. Then when it was delivered my wife tried one of them, liked it so asked what it was, and they didn't know what the cheese was which is probably not what they aspire to. makes me sad as the cheese at the Great House is stuff of legend. More minor stuff: Breakfast wise the coffee in the percolator was way too strong even for someone who likes strong coffee, a tiny shot of milk was not enough so we asked for more, would have been nice to be offered hot milk to make Cafe Au Lait etc. Also another minor point, the soap and shower gels were quite horrible, they stick to you and don't wash off, not something I'm usually bothered about, but the half empty containers looked like they had be refilled with something not very nice, or it was just never very good. When we checked out I think the manager may have been back, he did not ask us once how our stay had been so we had no real chance to say anything. We tried to be understanding and of course being British nothing was really a problem for us, but when you've spent £500 for a birthday it was all a bit disappointing and not nearly up to par. I sympathise that it might have been a difficult night, but to be honest it would have come off better if I hadn't been reminded every few minutes that they were so busy and everything going wrong. I'm not even sure that they were that busy, the terrace was out of bounds and the restaurant was 3/4 full. Matters were drawn in to focus the next day when we went to the Weavers Spa, and also for lunch at the Crown in Stoke by Nayland, staff were cheerful, helpful and great at both of these local places. Sorry for writing this negative review which I feel sad to have written about a place we used to love. Rooms: 4 Service: 2 Location: 4"
