"Celebrated my niece’s Birthday and came back to celebrate mine with family and friends. It was live music night, which they informed us of when booking. I was fine with that as the restaurant is the other side of the pub, well away from the band, so it wouldn’t really bother us. We arrived and a member of staff showed us to our table, but instead of being take to the restaurant we were taken around the corner to a table right next to the music. We were the only people who were sat on this side of the pub that evening. As we headed towards the table the member of staff said” You’d better be quick in case people take your table” ??? Never had to worry about losing a reservation from other people in a pub before? How to describe where we were sat. We sat in the main thoroughfare to the toilets. I myself was sat at the end of the table so close to the ladies toilet that I could, if I so wished, open the ladies toilet door from my seat. Women negotiated around my chair to go to the loo. Drinkers congregated in the walkway basically standing directly over us dining, my sister had drunk men placing pints down on her part of the table while she was eating and bumping into her, in her own words “ If one more person leans into me I’m going to lose it” The music was so loud where we were we gave up trying to chat to each other at times. When we booked they never once mentioned where they’d be seating us and I would have said no immediately if they’d told me that when I booked and would have gone elsewhere as I know the pub very well and never in a million years would I want to have sat there during a Friday night of live music. I had considered just leaving, but people were hungry and not long finished work and they needed to eat and trying to book for so many of us last minute would have been impossible. The food. I’m not sure it’s the same chef as we had a month ago, I could be wrong, but the difference was surprising. My steak pie again was great, but one of our group had a burger and said it was “disgusting” Two members of the group had coleslaw with their meals and I was shown both, untouched by them, it was grated cabbage and carrot in a small dish, dry, with no mayonnaise and the veg was curled and dry to the touch as if the “coleslaw” had been standing out for hours. Every person who had chips said the same thing, it was like a child’s portion, the amount of chips on each plate was a joke. Others weren’t overly impressed with elements of their food. It was all so good a month earlier. I do also have to say that later in the evening I had the misfortune of talking to the chef, I’m sure it’s not the same guy as I spoke to before, I mistook him as a member of the bar staff, in my defence he was behind the bar quite a few times while I was there. I asked this man a non food related question and just got attitude from him, you would have sworn he owned the place, he was rude and condescending to such an extent that mid conversation I turned my back on him as I refuse to be spoken to by anyone that way. Maybe I’d suggest keep him away from customers, and coleslaw obviously. I have to end by saying the staff were excellent as always, with a special mention to Emily behind the bar, friendly, helpful and a real asset to The Red Kite. So, our meal was ruined by The Red Kite squeezing people in to maximise profit, a very short term gain that will cost in the long term. We have already started to organise our next get together but it won’t be at The Red Kite. I said in my last review that I’d be back, I came back, but I won’t again."

"Firstly, I don 't 'do ' reviews in general but I have felt compelled to write this in response to AJs malicious and unfounded post. I have frequented this establishment before and during COVID and I was present indoors with my partner when AJ made her complaint, quite loudly and aggressively to the proprietor. As a result, I feel strongly about giving an alternative view of what actually happened 3 days ago and also posting my positive experience of this lovely coffee shop that has, honestly, been a sanctuary for me through COVID when I 've needed some escape. Firstly, I 'll explain my version of events 3 days ago so that, hopefully, you can read this in conjunction with AJs post. AJ started her rant by saying that she had been to this coffee shop many times but had had the worst experience she had ever had that day. My partner and I heard this (as she was purposely loud which made me think what on Earth had happened as it was such a dramatic statement! The proprietor asked with genuine concern in her voice what was wrong. Honestly, this is what AJ said my butter was hard and my latte was not a latte . My partner and I were incredulous. The proprietor said that she would have happily rectified this if she had been told about the problem and given the opportunity to. AJ went on to explain that she couldn 't be bothered with all the fuss of navigating the proprietor 's COVID measures and that all this (pointing to the COVID measures isn 't needed (However, note that AJ did venture into area to make her complaint post meal . As all of my experiences here have been positive, I felt uncharacteristically passionate enough to intervene on AJs onslaught to explain, and said to AJ, that I felt safe here and was very grateful for the attention to detail on COVID measures and that I felt she was being unreasonable. I won 't elaborate further on the conversation but suffice to say that the proprietor handled it in a dignified manner. AJ left in a huff and I noticed how the proprietor proceeded to sanitise the table, chairs, menu, condiment holder etc (with tears in her eyes on an indoor table that had been vacated next to mine, making it safe for the next customer. My experiences of Harbour Light Tearooms: The cakes are absolutely wonderful and tantalisingly laid out. I specifically come here for the gorgeous almond and blackberry tray bake a must try! I love my coffee generally. The milky coffee is just that as stated on the menu it is not espresso based. However, it has that comforting feeling of when your mum used to make you a milky drink. I also love the caffiteire of coffee that is offered here, which you don 't see very often, served in lovely dainty coffee cups you get quite a few cups out of it. The sandwiches are simple but with nice ingredients none of the overly processed fillings. I had a ham salad sandwich on the day of question! The coffee shop has local artist work scattered around it (for sale too ; this coupled with the modern yet homely interior makes for an all round pleasant experience. I love the outdoor seating area (weather permitting . This is clearly not a table serviced area but I don 't mind if I want this I can sit indoors. There are options! There are clean, marke wheelie bins by the outdoor area to put your disposable waste in (AJ left hers on the table! As for COVID measures, well, I feel safe here and I commend the proprietor for going over and beyond and caring enough for her customers. I have always felt safe here. I appreciate that we are all entitled to our views but, for me, I find it truly hard to believe that someone has had the 'worst experience ' because a pat of butter was hard and to write such a harsh review. The World has gone through the most horrific ordeal with COVID and I 'll happily take a 'hard ' piece of butter from the fridge any day. I 'll also happily visit premises that have, and are still trying, to keep us all safe. Seriously, come and try Harbour Light Teamrooms for yourself. Businesses like this deserve our support. And, for the cynics in you, no, I do not have any affliation with the owner. Just a desire to stand up for what I believe is right I feel slightly guilty about speaking out to AJ in case this part provoked her to write her review."
