"Before booking I always research places so The Yard simply did not live up to the reviews I had read. Perhaps a bad evening for them but very sad for us. The evening began badly when we chose a particular NZ Sauvignon Blanc the...waitress brought up and served an Italian Sauvignon when we noticed we asked if we could have the slightly more expensive NZ (happy to pay for it) however, we were told that they had no NZ wines. So we accepted the Italian Sauvignon. Not as fruity nor as dry but …… Starters: I chose the treacle cured salmon. My husband chose their baked eggs and mushroom on a bed of spinach. The eggs were rock hard. He had assumed it would be like an oeuf en cocotte. (It did seem a bit ironic that only a few minutes before the couple on the next table had rejected the same dish because of the cheese on top) was his dish the rejected dish reheated? if not then it was really unpleasant. My salmon was OK not exciting or to die for but edible. I had looked at the menu earlier in the day and had chosen lobster ravioli. Sadly they had run out of this when we arrived so I chose prawn and scallops risotto instead. This was delicious and both the scallops and prawns were cooked perfectly. My husband is a connoisseur of calves liver and was literally drooling at the prospect….this was the worst dish of the evening. It was supposed to be served with wilted chard, balsamic vinegar and sultanas. The chard was crunchy, the balsamic vinegar was more like malt vinegar and the sultanas had clearly made a bid for freedom! The liver was way too thick and overcooked. There was too much for a portion. We decided not to even consider the puddings and left feeling let down. The waitresses were charming why did we not tell them how disappointed we found most of the dishes? Because we are British and we wimped out! Sorry!"

"cook very confidently. we had a nice but no fireworks meal here yesterday evening. it is in the grosvenor, a beautiful hotel on a beautiful road in a beautiful city, and I would warmly recommend a weekend break for anyone who does not live near. it is all dark wood trim and gentle lighting, exemplary, but good humble and warm service, and a limitless mix of diners from the brightly padded cheshire ladies d'un certain age with their golf hubbies, and nervous young couples who work up to a suggestion. the service starts in the bar, with a wonderful cocktail list (including some great non-alcoholic, I had minze and ingwer and gurke and a fevertree Mediterranean tonikum, zingy . amuses bouches included a scotch quail 's ei with pork cratry, a kind truffly gougere, and a wonderful smoked salmon lollipope with an art truffy. in the restaurant we then had another amuse of a spoon liver that had a crisp sweet crust, a bit like a cream brussels, with a pistachio wafer and a cherry (church were themes of the night, it must have been a market glut. the starter on the tasting menu was a disc crispy boar bell with a black pudding wafer, brawn jelly and some smoked torte. the evening meal then continued with a tranche of perfectly boiled Brixham-Peice, a longoustine and some devastated and pure salate. my favourite dish was an incredibly soft piece of poussin breast with deep fried squid tenacles, some cannelloni that had (I think the beinfleisch in and some more squid, along with its ink, saffron and a pfeffer crush. on which note, radley 's cooking is wonderfully free from the frills and pellets this was the only glamour of the night. there were no swabs, no foams, no technology for it. Apart from the ubiquitous circuses and a sometimes unsatisfactory use of fairly bland truffles, it was all very mature and reserved. the main was poached rindfleisch filet, more canneloni, this time with ochsentail, sellerie and some rich and spicy lenses. together with an unadvertized disc of brand and some tripe (I would have thought that diner should have been told about the trip, as it could not be deceived to any 's lust, and could have been deceived for one of the 'texturs of sellerie'. desserts then began an elegant barrel aged disc by feta with baclava and some pure Agen Fountain; a 'daiquiri' by banane, limette, around and some crispy peanut variable, and then finally parfait with poached rhubarb, ingwer and sugar-baked beetroot (the beet worked very well here. this was the only time service a little we were one of five tables in our part of the restaurant with the tasting menu and although we started 'd at different times, we have closed together so that they all last desserts at the same time. a little left out. petits four were small bakery cases with different custards including a beautiful peanut and caramel. and crunch. that was baked, in the words of mr. hollywood, a great baker. wonderfully thin and crisp. then finally a cigar case was bought with a selection of four I had white chocolate with pistachio and milk chocolate with lapsang souchong (usually barely detectable, but a fine accompaniment to a good espresso still . all in all, a very civilized evening, and we would repeat. it is a gently illuminated meal, instead of the dams of fireworks. but perfect for it. I didn't drink, but the sommelier was charming and knowledgeable, and the flight of the wee to accompany the tasting seemed good to go. an interesting list."

"AT LAST!!!! A place we can be proud to bring visitors to. We despair of finding places anywhere near Frodsham or the surrounding area that serves anything near decent and with some understanding of good food. But here it is!! We visited for Sunday lunch. The prawn cocktail was delicious plumptious prawns and a lovely sauce not your usual, strong, out of a bottle. Grandson had a duck with hoisin sauce to start and described it as divine. The Sunday roast was delicious. Lamb, pork and beef all cooked beautifully and the roast potatoes tasted fresh rather than reheated. Mixed veg of leeks with cabbage, peas and beans was tasty as was the mashed sweet potatoes. the choice of puddings was more than I 've ever seen within 20 miles of where I live in Kingsley. Nothing that looked as though it had come out of the freezer and into the microwave. Nothing described as a crumble, which is usually nothing like. And none of those dire plastic, sticky toffee puddings etc. Here we had a wonderful choice of beautifully and colourfully presented dishes frangipani tart with fresh pineapple, fruit and cocoanut ice cream was a prime example. The table for 4 was alive with 4 different dessert choices all of them beautifully colourful, you felt you were in the tropics. On arrival we were quickly greeted and seated. The host was repeatedly checking on guests without ever being intrusive. Every one of the waiters and waitresses were beautifully turned out, attentive, smiling, efficient and they LISTENED to what you required. Ample parking. Clean toilets. A lovely walk in a field with ancient barn and play area just through a wooden gate at the rear of the car park. Thank you. We will be back."
