"Before booking I always research places so The Yard simply did not live up to the reviews I had read. Perhaps a bad evening for them but very sad for us. The evening began badly when we chose a particular NZ Sauvignon Blanc the...waitress brought up and served an Italian Sauvignon when we noticed we asked if we could have the slightly more expensive NZ (happy to pay for it) however, we were told that they had no NZ wines. So we accepted the Italian Sauvignon. Not as fruity nor as dry but …… Starters: I chose the treacle cured salmon. My husband chose their baked eggs and mushroom on a bed of spinach. The eggs were rock hard. He had assumed it would be like an oeuf en cocotte. (It did seem a bit ironic that only a few minutes before the couple on the next table had rejected the same dish because of the cheese on top) was his dish the rejected dish reheated? if not then it was really unpleasant. My salmon was OK not exciting or to die for but edible. I had looked at the menu earlier in the day and had chosen lobster ravioli. Sadly they had run out of this when we arrived so I chose prawn and scallops risotto instead. This was delicious and both the scallops and prawns were cooked perfectly. My husband is a connoisseur of calves liver and was literally drooling at the prospect….this was the worst dish of the evening. It was supposed to be served with wilted chard, balsamic vinegar and sultanas. The chard was crunchy, the balsamic vinegar was more like malt vinegar and the sultanas had clearly made a bid for freedom! The liver was way too thick and overcooked. There was too much for a portion. We decided not to even consider the puddings and left feeling let down. The waitresses were charming why did we not tell them how disappointed we found most of the dishes? Because we are British and we wimped out! Sorry!"

Fantastic meal at the Yard. Our first time here staff made us feel really welcome and gave us a lovely table. Shared the egg/black pudding starter delightful, followed by beef rib and tiger prawn linguine (both gorgeous). Staff were really attentive noticing when...we were running low on drinks. Fantastic food, great atmosphere, relatively small but intimate. 10/10 would eat again. Service was fab both servers were attentive and pace was just right starters were good but the mains were unreal! We had the belly pork and the tiger prawn linguine both absolutely...delicious. I thought very good value for quality of food and service. Thankyou!

it is over 12 months ago, since we last visited the yard, but is pleased that the chef carl noller is still there: top cooking kitchen for cheap food and wine. I enjoyed the buffalo mozzarella and beetroot starter, followed by prawn and scallop risotto...and some enjoyed the baked egg and truffle starter followed by lightly sangiovese and beautiful, sharp pinot grigio wein. great service from the friendly waitress.

we have booked the yard a few months in advance for the graduation party of our sohne. we met friends in chester to celebrate a cozy lunch. a week before the restaurant email to cancel the booking, but if I called to explain the circumstances they could. what they did was especially open to us and we had an amazing private culinary experience that made the day special. the food was excellent - everyone on the party enjoyed their choices thoroughly and my highlight was the claremont spade with crispy eggs and garlic mayonnaise (although I felt mild food jealous when I saw that the nap pot arrives for one of the party.) the service was exemplary and we appreciate (and used) the interesting wei... My friends and I visited the yard for a special trip to Chester. I had booked based on recommendation and was so excited to find an available table. I would like to start by saying that Sam our waitress was incredible and couldn’t do enough...for us. The food however was not to the standard I would expect for the price paid. Myself and one friend ordered the Crispy Pork Belly, it was not at all crispy and was in fact rather cold when it arrived at the table. We sent these back and we’re told fresh ones would be made, only to be presented with the same plates of food and they were the same temperature. We didn’t want to complain a second time as the poor waitress already looked so embarrassed...

We booked for special birthday treat, upon enetring were seated quicly and friendly, very happy. From there it went downhill, my starter was fine but my partners of baked eggs , wild mushrooms and spinach was awful, it smelt of fish and it was totally...bland, we asked for salt and pepper to try to add flavour but it didnt help, she left over half. The main course arrived later quite promptly ,but again the quality was awful, my crispy pork belly was not crisp and the fat hadnt rendered so it was full of large chunks of fat! my girfriends beef cheek pasta was like rubber strips with mince meat, we didnt finish either, when the waitress returned we told her it was poor and she asked did we wa...
