"We have eaten in this pub many times over the last 10 years when it was a Free House, it has always been a gem and a pleasure until now, it has been taken over by Shepherd Neame brewery, they certainly know how to ruin a previously good pub. Staff were friendly and attentive but lacking knowledge in food. The meals we ordered were over priced, poor quality, the smoked salmon fillet looked like something from Tesco, the veg wasn't present and the meal was tasteless, the scampi was all batter, fries average and no tartar sauce as they had run out, £19 for the salmon, £16 for the scampi, such a pity! We won't be eating here again. They're trading on the beautiful location of pub on a beach, apart from that it has nothing else to offer."

"Lovely old hotel in a great location for exploring Sandwich. The staff are great, friendly helpful. We had a family room for 3 adults, it was spacious and comfortable. Breakfast was great, and they had some great options for the Vegans in our party. As it’s an old hotel the windows are single glazed, so not much protection from outside road noise. That said it didn’t bother us but some may want to take earplugs. The spaces for cars (just 4) at the front of the hotel are out of action due to redecoration but the Quay car park is just a few steps away. Enjoyed staying here, would stay again."

"Appalling. Short staffed. Scruffily dressed staff who had no clue about waiting on tables or customer service. Dreadful service, more like self service as no one bothered to take our drinks order or bring menus.; we had to go to the bar and get our own menus. The menus were scruffy sheets of A4 obviously manhandled time and again. A clean new sheet should be given to every customer. 35 minutes from sitting down to getting drinks. Eventually ordered food. Sent back the soup as it was awful; tasteless as unseasoned and made by someone with no idea. Butter was some yellowish hard lump of revolting stuff, but definitely not butter even though staff insisted it was. Probably a vegan alternative. Seafood cocktail was poor with big lumps of uncut lettuce because someone either couldn’t be bothered to shred it or didn’t know it should be shredded. Mashed potato tasted as if it was made with said vegan butter and made days before. Hake was supposed to be served with a herb crust. It was served with a green gloopy mess on the skin side instead of a crust on the flesh side, Purée and sauce were tasteless. Potatoes didn’t resemble Lyonnaise; they were just roast new potatoes. The only things cooked properly were the green beans. For a bottle of wine at £34, we weren’t asked to try first big mistake and then overcharged for it on the bill. Water glasses were half pint Coca cola glasses seriously?! We couldn’t bring ourselves to use them. Didn’t bother with pudding..,most were unavailable anyway. A huge waste of hard/earned money!"

"Although we have been living on the road for several months, we have visited our first visit in this beautiful place tonight. the pizzas are amazing, in the did the crusts are the best I have ever tried. husband had mighty meatball and I had pear, bacon and pinenut, both were huge and absolutely beautiful. but the best was still to come to make the good willing room for the tiramisu, it is to die! the service is also exceptional and very friendly. I let the half of my pizza (fit in the tiramisu) and got it friendly to take in a doggybox. can not recommend enough."

"We we’re staying in Deal for the weekend and fancied a take away. We looked up this place on Tripadvisor and realised they had a fantastic gluten free menu. That’s what sold it to us as my husband is gluten free and he cant normally have Chinese food . We were not disappointed, the food was excellent! The food was also delivered within the hour by a delightful friendly lady ! Definitely recommend this place if you are in the area ! Also very reasonably priced."

"Last night I celebrated my 40th birthday at the Frog and Scot with friends. From the moment we arrived we were welcomed by the lovely Cath who treated us like royalty. We then ate like Kings and Queens all night. The food was out of this world! We enjoyed a mix of tapas, sharing platters and desserts all of which were amazing! The waitress, Bryony was on the ball and very attentive to our table throughout the evening. A pleasurable evening! I even got a candle in my rice pudding as I didn’t want cake"
"We had dinner at the pub, it felt in the countryside without being far away from Dover. A good location with sufficient parking. We had pork belly and Salmon en croute with apple crumble and hot cookie dough to finish. All fantastic meals, delicious, well cooked and presented. The staff were friendly, great level of service without feeling rushed or slow. Would recommend!"

"Went with hubby, table booked for 8pm. Had our mains, everything fine. Came and cleared the plates, then we waited, restaurant wasn’t busy I might add and there were sufficient staffing numbers. After about 15 minutes we politely asked for the dessert menu. After about another 10 minutes someone came to take our order. By this time there’s only us and one other couple and it’s about 9:15 pm. Another 15 minutes go by, no sign of our dessert so we called the waitress over and she said she’d go check. She came back very apologetically and told us the kitchen was closed!, what?… by now it’s just us, all the other customers have gone. Seeing our displeasure the manager came racing over and said can I offer you an ice cream or a coffee on the house? We declined and asked for the bill. How an earth did no one know the kitchen was closed, and letting us sit their like lemons. If the place had been heaving, staff run off their feet then yes I could have probably said ok well never mind, but it wasn’t, there is no excuse. Royal Hotel you’ve let me down so I shan’t be coming back."

"What do I recommend about Orient Noodle Bar? Everything!! We're food snobs it's rare we give a review as we only review if the food is really good (or really disappointing . The food we've had from these guys is well worth reviewing, it's so good! Ive got to be honest, we're lazy so order takeaways to be delivered. Therefore we've not ordered from here since living in Dover (12 years . We didn't realise how good it is! Considering how lazy we are it's a huge thing that, rather than getting takeaways delivered, we now go down to collect from here, each every time! We usually have a range of takeaways over the month (Chinese, Indian, pizza/kebab and, I'm ashamed to say, Kaspers. Don't judge me! They are all ok but were not overly keen on any of them, unlike the Orient Bar which blows them all out the water....I wonder where that phrase comes from. Next thing, check Google! . This month we've had food from here EVERY time, apart from once (pizza . So, the reason we love them is the food is fresh, really fresh. It's cooked well and to order. The veg is perfect (for me as I don't like it overcooked but the veg is always still perfectly crunchy. My husband has the ribs the meat just falls off its so nicely cook. The prawn toasts are crunch as they are meant to be (some takeaways they are slightly soggy . I have dried fried noodles they actually are, whereas some places say dry fried but then are in a sauce. I could go on (and apparently, according to my husband when I read this out to him, I do! Cheeky of it! . The food is cooked in front of you it's amazing to watch him cooking about 15 things at one time as. He looks so chilled out about it all but he has been doing it many many years it shows. The work are is clean tidy. Everyone is friendly polite too. We have just ordered again my husband is on his way to collect it. I cant see us using any other Chinese again unless these guys are shut. I cant believe we've missed out for 12 years!!"

"Another lovely find in Sandwich! My wife and I dropped in for a meal and received a friendly welcome and were seated quickly. Menus were perused and choices made whilst our drinks made their way out to us. My wife's coffee was sublime and my cider choice was perfect. Our food arrived promptly (a pork belly burger and a cheeseburger) and was far better looking than my photos show. More importantly it tasted magnificent! Really good quality food in a generous portion. The staff were attentive but not over bearing which made us feel cared for and not harassed. We both decided on pudding although we were stuffed from the main course. My wife had the poached pear and I had the sticky toffee pudding. Again, it was served promptly and was sublime! We had a wonderful time here and would recommend it to all. Well done the hop huffkin"

"On the evening of 8/10/23, three middle-aged Londoners visited a JDW restaurant in Dover while camping nearby. We had planned ahead for a meal and drinks at this pub, and arrived at around 19:40 to find it bustling with activity. We were lucky to find a table near electric sockets, as one of us needed to join an online game later. We ordered our food and drinks using the app, with one of us getting a surprise discount on their veggie all day brunch. I opted for the battered cod, our friend chose a veggie beyond burger, and the drinks arrived promptly and were delicious. The meals were served hot and were of good size, accompanied by sauces from the bar. After we finished, we moved to a cooler table with an electric socket, where we relaxed and socialized. The clientele included locals as well as tourists from Germany, Poland, and France. We ordered a panini and apple crumble with Vanilla Ice Cream, along with more drinks, before heading back to the campsite. The total bill came to 36.40, which we found very reasonable. Overall, we left satisfied and content with our experience at the restaurant. It's unfortunate to hear that JDW is closing down The Capitol in Forest Hill, SE London, despite their success post-pandemic."
"top weatherspoons! outside the building no inspiring but inside it makes up. absolutely great service one of the best in a long time. the employees so pleasant and organized with a streamlined service, no pause, it was a textbook that is totally impressed by a restaurant/bar that is to be observed by the higher places. it was also very quiet for the early evening meal. I wish more two would be the same."

"I have to say Deal Beach Parlour is a lovely café over looking the English Channel Just along from Deal Pier. The new upgrade is awesome and I love the fresh vibrant colours along with the new Serving area, A wonderful selection of different Ice-Cream flavours, Cakes along with hot and cold meals, one thing I did notice was that DBP is spotlessly clean and presents itself well, when I visit any café I always check out the toilets (Spotless) that speaks for itself the staff are very professional and cater for all needs. I noticed an Ice-Cream Clock on the wall which is awesome too. All in all with our experience they get 5 s, a very happy family indeed we will be going there again."

"Just a warning, do not use their online ordering system. They take your money and say they never received payment. I paid, £20.60 from my account, proved I paid via my banking app, they still didn’t deliver or refund the money and were rude over the telephone. I’d rather go hungry than use this place again. If I could give zero stars, it would receive all day long. ZERO STARS. Maybe a report to trading standards, not that £20 is the end of the world, just the principle of it all combined with their stinking attitude. If you are stupid enough to order, please pay cash."

"Our breakfast experience at this restaurant was very disappointing. After waiting for 40 minutes, we had to inquire about our order with a young waitress who never came back after checking. Another lady eventually brought us our food, but it was not up to standard. The pancakes with bacon were cold, and the scone was rock hard and inedible. We expressed our dissatisfaction to the lady who apologized and acknowledged the unacceptable food quality. We declined a replacement, as we had already been waiting for almost an hour. When it came time to pay, we were surprised to find that the drinks had been deducted from the bill, leaving only the cost of the food. Despite feeling uncomfortable, we refused to pay for the subpar meal, only paying for the drinks. The whole experience was upsetting, and we have decided not to return to this restaurant."

"Really poor service you can only order food from the tablets, an elderly man couldn’t use the self service so asked the lady/man not sure behind the till who said it’s self service and carried on chatting this is the second time I’ve seen this and I’ve emailed Burger King to be told they will chat to the franchise owner. The elderly man walked out This is the worst place to order food from absolutely poor service it’ll be great if McDonald’s was to come to at James as they are customer friet"

"We usually eat at Dine India when we come to Deal, but thought we would stay in and try takeaway from this place instead due to the good reviews. The portions were a good size and the delivery was perfectly on time. They were also nice enough to give us quite a few free poppadums and dips. However the food wasn’t great. The chilli chicken dish was very good, but the sheekh kebab a was pretty much inedible. We also ordered a lamb vindaloo but got chicken instead, even though the container was marked lamb. The online ordering system (via both the website and the app) is very poorly designed and organised, and lacks detail on the dishes themselves. The app also crashed on me twice and emptied my basket. They seem to get great reviews, so maybe we just had bad luck, but a lot of the 5 star reviews were from people who hadn’t reviewed anything else. Perhaps that should have told me something."

"During my business trip, I stayed at The Royal Oak, a charming traditional pub with rooms. Keyless entry instructions were provided, allowing for minimal interaction if desired. However, I appreciated the friendly service when shown to my room. Despite its small size, the room was well-equipped, clean, and recently renovated. The steak and kidney pudding was delicious but the portions were generous. Breakfast was also impressive, made with high-quality ingredients. Although there were a few minor issues, they were more for improvement rather than complaints. I didn't mind the constant but not overly loud generator on site, as I always travel with earplugs. The small carpark may require some maneuvering, and the coffee pods for the machine weren't the best quality. Overall, The Royal Oak offers good value for money and I would gladly recommend it."

"We live in Dover and visit Table Table with friends and on our own quite often, staffing issue gets worse, we went in Easter Monday for a meal, , had to wait for some one to come and book us in , only one lady she always works very hard) and a man never smiles altho could not see what had to smile about) they doing bar and restaurant , when we sit at table 2 groups gave up waiting to be given a table and walked out , if we were not honest think we could have walked out with out paying, as staff so busy .
