"While staying in the hotel I booked a table for two in the restaurant for an evening meal, and for breakfast the next day. Being a vegetarian I am used to very few options on a menu and the Solway was no exception, thankfully I'm...not a vegan anymore as I couldn't see anything that would have been ok for that. The portions were huge but they were also very greasy. I think the chef liked using cheese because my starter (nachos) were caked in it, and my main course, lasagna, was drowning in it. Yes, I know that both courses usually come with cheese but not the amount that was used, which left a layer of grease on the food and a lake of it under the food too. My partner had garlic mushrooms for starter which might have been defrosted on account of them being cold in the middle (she left them), and then had fish for her main, which she didn't enjoy either. Breakfast was mush the same I had a vegetarian breakfast that should have come with a mop for the amount of grease on the plate. No word of a lie, I was able to squeeze the mushrooms and get a river of grease on the plate, and when I cut into the hash brown it collapsed and was just mush. Thankfully my partner just had toast as this couldn't be ruined. The place was filled and noisy. I suspect locals are using the place to order a small meal in order to use the bar as pubs are under covid lockdown there was a drunk couple at the next table who kept getting louder and louder, swearing, burping and farting. Couldn't wait to get out. If you like large greasy portions you'll be in heaven. If you want good food that's healthy in a nice atmosphere forget it."
