"A pleasant result. A last minute choice owing to our first choice (The Kenbridge Hotel. seemingly having gone off line. We don’t know the area well and we’re very much guided by reviews. They surpassed themselves in the warm welcome on arrival by family members working hard to make sure we were at ease. The room had clearly been upgraded, excellent en suite and comfortable bed. Heating was a little low but they did their best to address that. Through no fault of theirs we arrived at about 6pm to discover that they were pressed for dinner service that night and we’d have to eat more or less right away. We opted to eat out locally but the breakfast was plentiful and substantial. Toast was underdone but that apart, attentive service and good value for money."

Couldn't have gone to a worst place, the staff are very respectful and the foot was horrible. Overall the place needs closed down.

It’s a lovely wee hotel with great food great beer and friendly staff. It’s definitely well worth dropping into the Inn. Will definitely return here on my next visit to the town.

We were recommended this hotel for lunch by the lady in tourist information. Very friendly and helpful staff and comfortable surroundings. There was plenty to choose from on the menu and the food was excellent.

Went for the husbands 60th Birthday dinner. Great meal reasonable prices. But most of all the fantastic staff who went above and beyond to serve us. One of the staff even gave a lift to the lesser able bodied of our group. Also dog friendly. Thank you so much

Had lunch here today. Food was delicious for all. Gluten free menu was good, and the salt and pepper chicken was recommended from it. Big portion sizes, well presented and piping hot. Staff very welcoming. First time here for myself but will definitely be back.

We spent 3 nights in this comfortable, friendly hotel and enjoyed every minute. The staff and owners chatted and made us and our dog feel very welcome. We had dinner on the first evening and the food was really good. Breakfast was always served with a smile by Sarah. Definitely going to return here soon.

Date night took on a special significance with a dinner trip here. Was staying in the hotel so was easier to stay in, and wow, we we delighted with the atmosphere, choice and standard of food. Usually eat in city centre but this was just as, if not better, than many we have been recently. Definitely try the mint aero sundae! Worth the travel to just have another!

This was recommended to us for an evening meal and it didn’t disappoint. Booking is advised at a weekend and we can understand why. The inn has a lovely cosy friendly atmosphere and we were warmly welcomed on arrival and shown to our table which was adjourned with Christmas crackers and places set. The staff were lovely our orders quickly taken. A nice bit of friendly banter from Janet hope I got the name correct) just added to the enjoyment of our evening. The food was splendid, quickly served and nice and hot. I can only say, if you are visiting or staying in Castle Douglas then this is a little gem of a place to enjoy quality food and drinks served in a lovely pleasant atmosphere. We will...

"My wife found this when looking for a place for us to spend our wedding anniversary. It sounded good on paper. It was a long and tedious drive for us though and I wasn’t sure it was worth it. I was totally wrong! This place is superb and well worth any drive! The setting is great-it has its own beach and there is a small patio where you can sit and there is a heater there too if you need it. There’s a nice lawn in front of the hotel too where those with dogs took them for a walk. The rooms are all different and all well appointed with their own en suite. The costs of the rooms reflects the size of the room and not the facilities. If you are tall like me (6ft 2) I wouldn’t go for one of the rooms in the roof as the coomb ceiling is a pain. However the thing you go there for is the food and that is sublime! It is a set menu in the evening which reduces waste and helps control costs. You get 7 courses, all quite small , but at the end of the meal you are adequately fed but not full. We were there for 3 nights and had a different meal every night. All the dishes were superb but we had mushroom soup one night and it was the best soup I have ever tasted! In fact it was one of the best foods I have ever tasted! The breakfast is very good indeed and you can order whatever you like from the menu which is very comprehensive. I found that set me up for the whole day and I didn’t need a lunch. I must also mention the wine. The wine list is very comprehensive with some difficult to come by wines in it too like Chateau Musar. On 2 nights we went with the wine pairing list which I thought was very good value, especially the cheaper of the 2 lists we had every night. The hotel is a good centre for seeing things in the local area and , despite going in November we found things to occupy ourselves for the 3 days we were there. They have various themed weekends too which sound brilliant. But the hotel is so good it is worth going to anytime. We will certainly be back."
