"Die Manufactur ist eine gelungene Mischung aus Imbiss und Restaurant. Das Essen wird vorne am Tresen bestellt und abgeholt, die schöne Inneneinrichtung (Schafsfelle etc. hat aber Charakter eines modernen Restaurants. Durch die Glasfront hat man das Gefühl, mittendrin zu sein. Die Qualität der angebotenen Speisen ist ebenfalls gut und dem Preis angemessen. Es gibt auch etwas ausgefallenere Kreationen. Darüber hinaus ist das Personal stets freundlich und flexibel. Negativ aufgefallen ist uns, dass das Besteck Rückstande vom Spülen aufwies. Auch die fehlende Möglichkeit zur Kartenzahlung ist, insbesondere für ein ansonsten modernes Restaurant/Imbiss, definitiv nicht mehr zeitgemäß."

"Class Shop and the only restaurant in Kiel are served exclusively vegetarian dishes. Most of them are also obtained in vegan, e.g. pizza, in case with yeast melt. The cheese products, e.g. feta cheese or pizza cheese, are unfortunately not organic, which is personally incomprehensible to me. However, the cheese is with a microbial laboratory, as much as consolation. The quality of foods in most cases is very good (but not always the same cook is there the same cook, even if you need to wait for one to half an hour at some evenings until you have something on the table. You shouldn't starve with a bear. However, the waiting period is understandable, as all dishes themselves are freshly prepared. A bread basket with delicious tomato margarine or a vegan chocolate bar is available for bridging. Curry sausage with real pommes are highly recommended as the TRS (Tofu rice spinach beans and the delicious salad plate (especially with mustard)."

"Banmaai is a very modern looking Thai restaurant in Kiel, just a few minutes walk off of the harbour-side.It was a very warm evening at the time of our visit and almost the whole of the façade was opened up to let in a gentle breeze. On the interior the rattan wall work gives a natural, minimalist but a comfortable, modern feel. Bliss, and that's before the food was served.The food options are very good and you can't go wrong with Tom Ka Gai to start with, and for mains, the Gai Pad Prik Thai Gratiem is amazing !If you are looking for a beer, then you are in safe hands with a choice of local fare and some bottled Thai as well. For cocktails too the selection seems good, it's only in the the wine and spirits department that things are a little on the small side.The staff were great, friendly and thankfully accommodating to our lack of the local language.Overall a very pleasant experience."

"The purchase was finished, but the next appointment was only in just two hours. Driving home was pointless, as the appointment was still further away from home north of the NOK (North East Canal). So the opportunity to go back to a cafe. My proposal, the Schiffercafe in Kiel-Holtenau, was enthusiastically accepted by Madame. She already knew this place, I haven't. We found a parking lot right before the access to the Tiessenkai and went the small piece to the cafe. At the entrance no one was seen by the staff, a sign at the counter announced “self-service!”, four of the five tables in the main guest room were occupied. We immediately took the fifth table in fitting, and while Madame solved an urgent disposal problem, I saw the panels described with chalk next to and behind the vault. It only took a look at the cake offerings behind the glass pane, then the case was clear for me (even if Günter Neutze hasn't solved criminal cases for years now. When Madame then returned to the table in a simple way, I pointed them to my favorites. This time she was “dran”, waited at the counter for operation and then ordered two cappuccino (each 3,00 € and two pieces of dark cherry cake (each 2,40 €). The cake pieces were placed promptly on plates, we had to wait a few minutes for the products of the scuba and smoky coffee machine. Finally, the machine was finished and we were able to receive our coffee specialities in our own cups. On top there was an extremely stable milk foam, the sweetening pills had to be sunk with the help of the spoon. The cappuccino was really good and with a strong coffee taste, the cherry cake tasted even better than it looked. So it's decided. Our table stood right at the window, so we had not only the interior well in sight, but also the events at the dock. And there it went round, in succession several Dutch traditional sailors placed right in front of the door. From one of the old ships a whole school class crawled down, split up the remaining proviant and was then picked up by Mom or Dad or both. It was quite amusing for us. When the Oslo ferry came out from the village, it was time for us to leave this hospitable place."

"We met as a group of six friends and neighbours for supper at the recently opened Hafenwirtschaft near the Quayside in Kiel-Holtenau. Our reservation was admirably handled by the assistant manager Daniel Michel and our table was by one of the rather smallish windows with limited views to the sailing ships moored at the quay and over the entrance to the Kiel Canal beyond.We did not wait long to place our orders, taken by a rather hesitant young man who clearly had not been long in his job, but he was polite and attentive. The choice of dishes is quite extensive, for what is basically a German restaurant. Meat and fish dishes are available, as well as pasta and children's’ portions.Disappointing! Why? Because the much vaunted Roast Beef, served in my case with purée potatoes and not with fried ‘bratkartoffeln’, was almost conspicuous by its absence. In other words, the portion of roast beef, although appetising enough, was miniscule. Two extremely small and thin slices of meat.If, like me, you are used to a carvery in the UK or the USA, you will find the portions minute here in Germany. Roast beef is an expensive item here, but nowhere have I been served so little. If I say that the roast beef is served in small (4 x 3 inch) uniform slabs, but thin, you may be reminded of the corned beef slices that come out of cans. British carveries serve huge, whole slices of beef, not miserable quantities clearly not carved from a joint of beef.Our fellow diners hesitated to say how they felt about their portions and said even less about the standard of the cuisine. Enough said.Prices were about average, but the proposed boar was overpriced, leading to my decision to take the slightly less-expensive beef.We did not take a dessert, but did take a coffee. With one glass of red wine each, the bill for my wife and me came to just under €50. I gather that our fellow diners paid about the same sum.The interior of the old Packhaus Restaurant, newly opened as the Hafenwirtschaft, is much as it always was, comfortable without being extravagant. It is cosy and has a newly refurbished bar/lounge area, where they serve Gin Cocktails and other beverages.Not my first choice of restaurant in Holtenau; it needs to improve its offering."

"Aus sehr sicherer Quelle weiß ich, was in der Küche für eine Hygiene herrscht. Lasst es, ich kann nur abraten! Chef pfeift die Angestellten im Gastraum, vor aller Augen, zusammen. Einmal bekamen wir mit wie jemand den Scheiterhaufen bestellte und die arme Kellnerin wurde vom Inhaber gezwungen hinzugehen und die Gäste zusammenzufalten, dass man das Gericht nur bekommt wenn man sich wirklich sicher ist. Und trotzdem bekam sie Ärger, noch zu freundlich gewesen zu sein. Das hat bei dieser Art Gericht Tradition. Angeblich wegen der Verschwendung, weiß aber sicher dass dort all abendlich Massen an Lebensmitteln weggeschmissen werden. Aus dem Dorf habe ich gehört, dass da auch Kellnerinnen während der Schicht das Handtuch werfen und wutentbrannt den Laden verlassen, weil sie vorher in der Küche lautstark angeschrien wurden. Der alte Inhaber war ein guter Typ, schade drum. Das Servicepersonal ist immer nett und locker drauf, da kann man nichts sagen."
