"This is a lovely pub on the canal at Hest Bank. However a couple of niggles. We had a drink there last night. Good booze and reasonable prices. We decided to go back tonight and have a meal. We could not eat in the restaurant which was fine as we had our dog. We had to sit between the restaurant and the main part of the bar. There was a folk group singing there but when we arrived they took up most of the area. Their music was good and it would have bennice to listen to them but the piped music from the almost empty restaurant was so loud with a speaker just above our heads. My friend was getting really agitated as he had two competing styles of music paying in each ear. Why have a live band and play terrible music so loudly to almost no one. The steak and ale pie was OK drowned in a thick over salty sauce but I know this is how they eat in this area as I used to live here many years ago. My friend said his fish and chips were OK but could not recognise the fish. It did not say haddock or cod but for £14.50 you expect something decent. Instead it was pollock that dry tasteless fish that no self respecting restaurant would serve. You might be unlucky enough to get it in a cheap fish and chip shop for £8 or £9 quid. The two guys who were serving were welcoming and pleasant but it was a slightly disappointing experience. If you have good live music please don't drown it out with overloud garbage and if you are serving nasty cheap pollock for your fish and chips please put it on the menu so it can be avoided."

"Far Pavilion, 25 Bypass Road, Bolton-Le-Sands, Carnforth LA5 8JA Tel: 01524 823316 Date of visit: 21st October 2023. I have reviewed this excellent establishment many times over the years, the last time being in January of this year. Consistently good, with friendly attentive staff, who have been with them for many years in most cases. A family run business now run by the original owner’s son, Sam. Situated on the A6 near Carnforth on the edge of the lake district well worth the effort to visit and look around. Just a few miles from Lake Windermere. Tonight, I choose from their extensive and varied menu Pop’s with the excellent pickle tray. As on this occasion I took a friend we decided on the mixed Starter for two which consisted of, Chicken Pakoras, Shish Kebabs, Onion Baji, chicken Tika, with a selection of dips the mint dip being particularly worthy of a mention. Next round was for me, Chicken Ceylon, Now I have to say that this dish was excellent, big soft succulent chunks of chicken breast in a well spiced three chilli, coconut sauce. Trust me one of the best I’ve had for a very long time. My friend went for the Butter chicken on my advice but unfortunately, it was a little on the sweet side for her. Soft fragrant fluffy Pilau rice and an excellent peshwari Naan completed the order. As I was not driving, I allowed myself the indulgence of two pints of Cobra to help it all down. This place will continue to be up there in my top five restaurants. Just a shame it is not nearer to where I live! Parking no problem £65.00 for the quality is more than acceptable. 9.5 /10"

"I have had numerous meals at the Greaves Park and it is always great food and lovely service. This evening my step dad realised he had lost his gold chain. We retraced his steps and I called the greaves park to see if it had possibly been found there as he had been for a meal earlier. To our amazement a lovely waitress called Lucey had found it and Damian kept it safe for us to collect. We were so grateful that they kept it safe and were careful to ensure it was returned to the rightful owner as it has huge sentimental value. Thank you so much!!!"

"while other business companies and use initiative for reopening, the royal remains cold and lost with doors tightly closed and without any sign of when they are reopened by the well peeled holgates rich. at least the sitting area in front was for...the ones who eat the excellent outliers from the independent food car parked at the weekend outside the village hall, but the owner of the royal has now removed the sittings to prevent this, which is quite sticky to say the least. please open again. the village centre needs it."

"My wife and I had lunch here on 17th to celebrate my Birthday. we received a very warm welcome and had a very cosy lunch. The food was very good and we thoroughly enjoyed our meal, the banter with Beth Rob and the team. Thank you Beth for spoiling me with the extra jug of custard with pudding- promise I won't tell!! The Cross Keys has a really nice and friendly atmosphere and we would recommend highly. Hope to call in again soon Thank you to all for a very nice experience"

"Had a really super dinner at The Foodworks this evening. The service was friendly and efficient, a special mention must be given to Callum who was excellent! The menu itself was small but had something to tempt everyone on each course. We opted for the soup, carrot and coriander, always a winner and the duck which were both well presented and tasty. For the main course it was the sword fish and the Sea Bass and once again they definitively 'hit the spot. ' Although we were both quite full after the first two courses we managed the Chocolate and Orange Tart and a selection of Ice Creams. A perfect meal!"

"I hate to have to write this review as I genuinely love RSPB and Leighton Moss Reserve. Today I ordered a full English breakfast at £9.50, I thought it must be special at that price. When the food arrived I had 1 sausage, 1 bacon, 1 fried egg covered in a crispy skin, 1 hash brown, 1 tomato, beans, mushrooms and 1 toast all of which was cold. I was ravenous after having an early morning start and travelling 1.5 hours to the reserve. The hash brown and tomato was under cooked, the egg overcooked. I did want to take the food back however there was a large queue and a lot of busy staff in the kitchen. Whilst watching the kitchen I could see that food was being reheated in the microwave. On the way home I quickly started to feel unwell and have been vomiting, a very upsetting experience. I was fine before I had this meal, i don't intend to visit the cafe again after such a bad experience I'm afraid."

"I visited this restaurant recently and was impressed by its interior it is very beautiful and stylish. The cleaning was perfect, everything was clean and decent. The menu also looked quite interesting, but I decided to try only one dish, which I found very pleasant. However, the cost of food was quite high for me, so I can say that this is not the most cost effective option. Still, the general atmosphere in this place was quite pleasant, and I would like to go back there again."

"my wife invited me to a birthday dinner tonight with recommendations. we chose chicken and sweet corn soup. my wife enjoyed her suppe, as for my self my suppe was ok I had better off our...local farewell, I prefer to put in like for example garnel and mushrooms etc. to be sisable size instead of being finely chopped. the service was polite, but slow. there was no table check to see if the guests enjoy. after a waiting period came the main course, my wife sweet and sour huh was ok basic sauce huh very little in the type of obst and veg in the sauce that was a little on the hearty side, instead of the sweet side, i fried rice was over boiled. for me I went for the special chow my, regrettably the noodles were a clutenous and gele fied, meat and vegetables were cooked nicely, but the meal was cool instead of hot. we were not offered hackstocks and again there were no tables following to check if the meal was to our pleasure. we would go back, yes, I will eventually see that we had not chosen bad night. but I think the owners need to invest a bit in the cutlery, as it looks very tired and the decor needs attention that it looks tied. ."

"As our ferry to the IOM was cancelled 2 hours into our 4 journey to Heysham and we had our family dog with us, we needed a dog friendly place to stay close to the port really late at night. We were meant to stay at the hotel on our RETURN from the Isle of Man (that ferry was cancelled too) so I knew the owner’s number to see if there was availability. Chris answered straight away late at night, got the cleaners out late at night to prep rooms for us and put us up in fabulously renovated rooms. We cannot fault these rooms at all, they were perfect, so stylish and quiet too. We also had breakfast in the morning, it was so gorgeous, especially for the money we paid; my mother even said it was the best Eggs Benedict she’d ever had! This place is an utter gem in Morecambe. Chris and his team were so amazing, we cannot fault them and really hope to stay again. We’re actually very sorry our return ferry was cancelled from IOM purely because we don’t get to stay here again! I note that they are still renovating, so we did hear some work from about 9am onwards but check out is 10am so nobody should still be in bed by the time the workers roll around anyway!"

"We visited the Fenwick for Christmas lunch. We were greeted on arrival, offered drinks, and after a very short wait shown to our table. The restaurant was completely full. The table was nicely laid and certainly clean. We had preordered from a choice of 4 starters, mains and puds. For starters, I had the lobster cocktail and the others in our party had the wild boar and venison pate. The lobster cocktail was absolutely loaded with lobster which was clearly freshly cooked and shucked. The pate was homemade and delicious and was served with caramelised onion and roasted plums. For mains we all ate the turkey and trimmings. The turkey had been rolled with the dark meat on the inside and pancetta on the outside. It was served with a ham hock terrine, stuffing, pigs in blankets, Yorkshire pud and vegetables. Delicious. The puddings were very good especially the panna cotta and coffee was offered afterwards. We do visit the Fenwick regularly for a Sunday roast because the quality of the meat is always top notch. If I have any criticism it is that the restaurant decoration and table decoration was quite understated. The staff were warm, friendly and professional as always."

"This is my mother in laws favourite Chinese takeaway, which is why I bought meals for six there on Sunday evening. The girl that answered the phone was very friendly, and the service at the counter was very good, but I'm afraid the food is not up to much. The Szechuan beef was unlike any other Szechuan beef I have had anywhere else, and not in a particularly good way. The sweet and sour chicken my wife had was equally disappointing. The other dishes were okay, according to the rest of the family, but I won't be in a rush to return."

"We booked this venue thinking it would be a smart wine bar, with small plates of food and a good ambiance. At least the website and reviews appeared to suggest that. However, there were only 2 other customers there when we arrived, half the candles on the tables were lit and the music too loud for an empty bar. The service was just OK and the food had been reheated in the microwave. Being virtually empty on a Friday night says it all. A friend had warned us against it saying it was dingy and unpopular . Disappointing!!!"

"Very disappointed, had heard good things about the Canal Turn , but those were from the past . We went later on a Sunday afternoon so some things on the menu were unavailable, this is understandable but to run out of chips when most things on the menu were or could be accompanied by chips seems to be bad planning . The two young ladies running front of house were very friendly and helpfull but kitchen staff seemed to give the impression they would rather not be there . Someone went for frozen chips so food became available . When it came my gammon steak was fine but the chips were only just cooked , another minute or so to crisp them would have helped . A very disappointing visit , we will not be returning in the near future there are plenty of other places in the area"

"Had a LOVELY meal at the BLUE MOUNTAIN in Morecambe! I had Hake and my mother had Steak, we had veg and chips to accompany the dish. I thought the Fish was very nice and my mother said the Steak was cooked to perfection! I’m attaching some pictures of the meals and I would say, that this place is worth a visit if you like very good/tasty and nicely cooked food!!! I have to admit that I ate the starter before I took a picture of it, it was very nice. I think they were crab fishcakes, lovely!"

New Inn

"The inn in the charming village of Clapham is quite impressive. Although we primarily visited the pub, I noticed that there are also rooms available, making it a perfect spot for walkers taking on nearby Ingleborough or the three peaks challenge. The interior decor was a bit unexpected - instead of the traditional country inn look I anticipated, it was very modern with sleek and light furnishings. Luckily, our walk had been on a dry day so our boots were not muddy or wet. However, I would have been a bit concerned if they were. I indulged in a Peroni after completing a nine mile walk, but was taken aback by the price of £4.90 per pint. The food menu, on the other hand, was reasonably priced with mains averaging £12. Options included Fish and Chips, Burgers, Risotto, Tagine, Hotpot, sandwiches, and sharing platters. Although we did not dine, the landlord was friendly, albeit a bit distracted during our visit. We enjoyed a pleasant sit outside in the beer garden to celebrate our nine mile trek, although it was accompanied by my pricey Peroni."

"The food at the Masala used to be amazing....I loved it! I hadn't had a take away for some time and decided to buy one for myself, sister and brother in law who were staying with me. "I've been visiting the Gregson Centre for many years now and I have to say I still enjoy going once in a while to go to a place with a nice atmosphere and relatively cheap drinks. However, I've found that the price of the food...has drastically increased compared to what it was previously. The food is delicious (except for the pizzas, but I'll mention that in a sec) and the prices used to be a lot more reasonable; I feel that now they're not worht paying for, which I feel bad for saying. The pizzas have seemed to decline in quality recently. Whenever I got one with meat on it, it would come out extremely greasy and not really a wholesome experience. Even pizzas that don't have any meat products on them still come out a bit too greasy for my tastes. They used to be a bit cheaper and of better quality. I love the atmosphere and friendly staff, but the food no longer worth its price unfortunately."

"We have been using this takeaway for over 10 years now and have had great food that was great value too. We don't live near Lancaster but do visit about four or five times a year and we always have a takeaway from Delhicious. Of late though the food quality hasn't been quite as good and the quantity has got less but the price has gone up, markedly so. I would now say that their offerings aren't value for money at all. We had a tandoori mix grill and a chicken tikka masala on the 18th January 24. I noticed that the cost of the food had risen from around £25 to almost £30 since our last visit in October last year. I also noted how much smaller the portions were from the previous visits. We want to continue using this takeaway and will do but not unless the food portions go back to what they were."
