"I've slept on this review because this is someone's business and their hard work is important. What was ok good was the starters and the appearance of the restaurant, clearly alot of work went into place. The main thing was service. Sat down just after 17.30 and things were extremely slow. Staff not attentive and at points rude. Had to ask for glasses to be removed as table was getting cramped with dead glasses. Had to ask for more drinks. Had to ask for plates to be removed. Never been in a restaurant where they deliver drinks one by one, dinner one by one, from the point of the 1st meal arriving on the table there was 8 10mins long minutes until the last meal arrived singularly with gaps.... table of 8. Quality of food was poor, cheese burger a stable of a USA themed place was cold, extremely compacted and cold and minus the cheese. Sent back arrived with 2 ice cold slices of cheese stuck on the top. Lamb shank thing was dry, tasted very salty and for the price extremely underwhelming. Chicken on the chicken and ribs was overcook dry and blackened. Ribs were quite nice. Some ingredients seemed cheap..... and for the price point it should not seem cheap. To be fair the curry was very nice and maybe we caught the place on a bad day. I did speak to the owner who apologised but not really accepting of any negative comment. A three plus hour visit which felt drawn out and overall unimpressed."

"The stars are for the staff who were lovely. My friend and I had a jacket potato with cheese and beans. They arrived my friend had about 10 beans on her potato i didn't fare much better. Sent them back, was told they were doing a new order. We had at least 15 beans on this occasion and a bit of melted mild cheese. Wish I had taken a photo as the filling was minute. Won't be going back."

"Highlights: Booked the Christmas Lunch menu for 8 people, Pre Ordered. Arrived and no Christmas Lunch was available. Ordered from the Sunday Lunch menu instead. Waited ages for the food, which did not come out at the same time. Quality of the food was actually good but it 's not an experience I wish to repeat. Complained numerous times. No idea who was responsible probably never find out. 5 weeks ago I made a phone booking for 8 people for the Christmas Lunch menu. I visited in person 3 weeks ago with a Pre Order of our food choices and provided written confirmation of the booking (and paid a £10 per head deposit . Imagine my surprise when I turned up to find we would not be provided any of the Christmas lunch we had ordered. The reason the Kitchen (which is run as a separate business!! had recently been changed to new management. I enquired why had nobody thought to contact me after all I have provided a written booking well according to the Bar Manager that was someone 's fault but not hers, but she would investigate. We were offered the Sunday Lunch menu instead. We asked to see the menu and had a mobile phone thrust forward as, at the time, they hadn 't got any physical menu 's. The starters were all fish seafood related. 3 of the party decided to select the white bait. We wanted to order our Mains at the same time but the Server never came back. After waiting 40 minutes I returned to the Bar Manager and asked why we were waiting so long. She visited the Kitchen and was told they were just plating them up, and they did arrive shortly thereafter. After Starters were consumed we were able to order our Mains. We feared this may also take some time to appear...and we weren 't disappointed. About 40 minutes later the Server came out with one meal, and we had high hopes the remaining 7 meals would come out rapidly thereafter. No, but another table did receive their order. Our 'lucky ' diner almost finished their meal before the rest of us were able to start to enjoy ours. 15 minutes from 1st meal to last meal. The Roast we had was good quality, well cooked and extensive. If we wanted Salt, Pepper, Napkins, Sauces etc that wasn 't on offer, but available if we asked! We had intended to have a Desert but as we 'd already been there 2 hours and none of us could stand the thought of waiting another prolonged period for the final course we decided to call it a day. I returned to the Bar and asked for an itemised Bar bill, which I got and checked, and paid it. When I turned around the Server was next to me thrusting her card reader at me. I said I wanted an itemised bill and she disappeared. When she re appeared she had written the items we had ordered on her pad and the prices for each. I agreed to pay some of the Food bill (2 3rds but not the full bill. I explained the reasons for my decision to the Server and the Bar Manager. In view of the issues I experienced I asked to speak to the Owner. I was told he was not available so I asked if he would call me to discuss my experience, hence I have waited 2 days expectantly for his call before publishing this review. I 'm pretty certain that I 'll never get a call but I wouldn 't be surprised if he replies to this review with some rubbish. If anyone has ever visited a pub restaurant where you are told they operate as 2 separate businesses please let me know...and I 'll avoid it like the plague!"

"We were ladies alone but treated respectfully, and even though there were lots of men, probably from football, having a pint or two, we weren't disturbed and having to pop along to the bathroom was uneventful and acted like gentlemen which was nice The food was alright, l suppose. The roast potatoes were really disappointing and not particularly nice nor roasted, or crunchy as rosties should be but the vegan desert (sticky toffee pudding) was really hard and microwaved to an inch of its life and the vegan custard lumpy and tasteless It's a shame, but l can not even remember what food we'd ordered as it was that uneventful even though it was a Sunday lunch . It's sad as it's got a good view and its own carpalrk Our server was really nice and patient and helpful"

"We came for our Christmas Dinner, which as you can imagine was pretty expensive. Having processed the whole thing a few days later, I can only conclude we were badly ripped off. The best thing I can say about it is that the staff are very nice and friendly, there was a fun atmosphere in there, but the food was the stuff of school meals. For starters we all had pate. Pate and toast is impossible to mess up. Following that, came the Christmas fayre, I had turkey with all the trimmings. Firstly, you had to put up with it arriving with gravy all over it, and none extra in a gravy boat. The kids did not want gravy but I wasn 't about to start scraping it off onto my plate. The first massive disappointment was the Brussels sprouts, two of which were quite hard, some a little softer, but none cooked enough to be fit for Christmas dinner. I know it isn 't the fashion to boil veg to death these days, but neither should it be raw. The carrots weren 't much better, large under-cooked slices. There were two types of potatoes, boiled and roasted. If you 're going to do two, I prefer mash. However, if it were to continue in school meal style mash would be worse. It would probably arrive looking like it had been put on with an ice cream scoop just like at school. The turkey meat was tough as old boots. Usually the fault with turkey is dryness, but somehow it was very chewy and in thick slices. There was a lot of it. I mean, LOADS. Absolutely loads. The roast potatoes were curious. One of the kids said they were like Spanish chips by which she means patatas bravas. And they were. They tasted nothing like roast potatoes. The smell reminded me so much of school dinners. Potatoes from a British canteen. The desserts were alright, after all, you can 't really mess up a cheesecake you bought from a supermarket. The blob of whipped cream from a can was less than generous though. On the way home, I started to realise I 'd been had. For what we paid in there, we could have had an evening out in a proper French Bistro in San Sebastien, chomping on moules and langoustines cooked by a Michelin star chef. I did enjoy the general atmosphere. It is a very British place and that was pleasant. To share with my countrymen the meal that most represents our national character made it worthwhile. I also hate cooking Christmas Dinner these days. It did, however, remind me not to take my kids reaction to my Christmas Dinner too personally. They didn 't eat much of this one, either. At least I do eat my own and it is made to my liking. We may be staying home next year. I 'll save my pennies for the next time we 're in a country where the natives can cook."

"Internal Decor 7.5/10 Hospitality 8.5/10 Poppadom Dipping Options 7/10 Taste 7/10 Value for Money 7/10 A personal recommendation led one of the KCC members to Tarana in Rainham, a previously uncharted territory. Initially surprised to see such an establishment so...busy on a Monday evening, by the waiters own admission they were short staffed, but the level of service didn’t drop. Poppadoms swiftly followed, well presented with a couple added complimentarily for good measure. It was once again a disappointment to see Lime Pickle on the dip selection… Once again we elected to choose from the chef special menu to get a true taste of the curry house. All curries were tasty but lacked the true flavour and spice we were craving. No doubt the chefs will be looking to up their game ahead of the busy festive season. No mystery curry was chosen this week. The hospitality took itself up a notch at the end of the meal when one of the guests was offered two Sambucas on the house. All in all, a restaurant we would visit again but not rush back to."

"Appalling! We were greeted by someone who claimed to be the manager, but her appearance and attitude suggested otherwise. She was incredibly rude to the staff, who were much more professional than she was. The food and service were mediocre, and we couldn't help but wonder if we were being pranked. Unfortunately, the bill confirmed that it was not a joke, as it was ridiculously overpriced. Be sure to check out the bar prices and menu before making a reservation, as it feels like daylight robbery. I suspect the positive rating is from family and friends. Avoid this place at all costs!"

"We used to rate the Taj highly. But not after our latest visit. In a nutshell, to save you reading further, the staff were disinterested and rarely left the counter. The manager took umbrage at being asked to replace a bad drink. And the food was neither tasty nor hot. We arrived at 6.30 and the place was empty. As the manager passed I pointed out that my bottle of Sparkling Water was totally flat. We said it was Sparkling because it said so on the label and I'd got what I ordered. He then said that I'd opened it and poured it so I'd accepted it. And it wasn't his fault that there were no bubbles. He said if we wanted to leave that was OK. It seemed that unhapppy customers leaving didn't faze him. However my bottle was grudgingly replaced with a good one. The staff, and manager, appeared to be completely disinterested in what they were doing. They just went through the motions. It was really odd. The menu hails the great Chef Abdul. It must have been his day off. Sauces from supermarket bottles are better than those we had. We all commented that our meals were neither tasty nor spicy. And not heat-hot. It pains me to write a damning review but this place needs a wake-up call. We'd love to see it get back to what it used to be."

"My group of 11 people used to frequent this restaurant, often spending over £30 per round of drinks. Despite the initial smell of grease, which was eventually resolved after a thorough cleaning, we found it to be a pleasant place to visit. However, on our last visit, we were unaware that there was a private function for Burns night taking place a day late. Despite bringing our own drinks and no signs indicating a private event, the manager's mother rudely insisted that we move as the tables were reserved (without any visible signs). After explaining the situation, she left and returned 15 minutes later, again demanding that we move without any apology for the lack of organization or inconvenience caused to us. We will not be returning to this restaurant in the future."

"First time using this take away and it is now our go to Chinese from now on! Everything was absolutely delicious and also hot when arrived. The chilli and salt chips were delicious, but then again so was everything we ordered. Thank you for a delicious dinner Mandarin House. We will be returning customers for sure and will highly recommend to everyone."
"We were very disappointed yesterday evening. Now we have been coming here for years from young children, as we grew up in weedswood. And we know the owner Toni and have done for many years and we have never ever had any issues here in the past. The food is usually outstanding, staff are generally polite but yesterday evening we made a booking for a family meal. We came in to be standing at the door for over 10 minutes waiting for someone to approach us and sit us at our table, the staff acknowledged us several times but still made no effort to come over to us which resulted in us going over to the bar to find out where are table was. As soon as we walked in the pub, everyone just stared over at us like we were inhuman and I genuinely feel it was because my husband is foreign. We were receiving vile looks. We then ordered our food and drinks that came to £65. And when the food arrived we was so disappointed. We ordered a meal from the menu that didn’t state it had cinnamon on top on the menu, it was chicken and the chef had literally just threw cinnamon powder on top it was absolutely disgusting. We then asked if we could have the same again without the cinnamon due to an allergic reaction. Which when we ordered at the bar we was not asked if there is any allergies anyway, but even if we were it was not stated on the menu so how can we be aware. The manager on that shift then came over looked at us like absolute filth. And said we can’t do you that again you can have something from the pub classics which are £8 now we had just paid nearly £15 for the meal. So we refused, and he said that we should of logged onto the app and looked for allergic reactions before ordering never ever have I experienced such bad customer service and another lady in the pub witnessed all of this and came over to us and acted said good on you as she noticed the way we were treated. In the end my husband asked for a burger and chips and was up all night throwing it up anyway. My sister whom also asked for steak medium it was raw inside. Now we own 3 businesses which to one is a restaurant and never ever would we treat any customer in this way. Genuinely if someone isn’t happy with their food it gets replaced. Not every excuse made. We also added on our booking we needed one high chair that we never got The manager then went back over the bar complaining and speaking very high to the other staff looking over at our table which is very unprofessional and made us feel very uncomfortable at this point. The management is very very poor and so is the staff here now and it’s such a shame as I used to love this pub. And they used to be very respectful and welcoming. And in regards to the chef he clearly doesn’t know how to cook. So I am not happy at all with our experience. And I will be reporting to trading standards."

"We ordered a substantial amount of food on a Saturday evening. Was accepted, 40 minutes later I got a text to say my order had been cancelled. I called the shop to confirm this and the staff member assured me this was a mistake and took the first line of my address and number stating the food was out for delivery. 20 minutes later, no food I called again the same man was stating the food was not cancelled and still on its way. After raising that I would like to speak to a manager, the manager explained that my food was not coming and had indeed been cancelled. I was quite agitated at the fact other members of staff had lied and tried to get rid of me but telling me what I wanted to hear. When in reality if they had been honest and up front I could’ve ordered food from another restaurant. Very poor customer service and I will not order from here again , nor would I suggest friends of family too."

"We visited on Mother’s Day for dinner as a party of 9, the food was delicious, we couldn’t fault it. The team are an absolute credit to this restaurant, we had a poorly 1 year old who was sick (twice) which we felt utterly awful about as we didn’t want it to ruin anyone else’s experience. The team were so supportive, kind and helpful and helped us clean up quickly without batting an eyelid. Becky in particular was great, she made me feel so much better about the situation and even boxed pudding up for us so we could take it home. We will most definitely be back, hopefully without a poorly child next time!"

"First visit for a number of years. Decor had clearly been updated recently and felt fresh and clean, but still cosy. Will definitely become a regular again. Food was delicious, we both opted for a duo of meat Sunday Lunch, so tasty. The staff were friendly and attentive, and good selection of beers, ciders and ales."

"This restaurant is a pleasant place to enjoy a meal and unwind. It is situated among a row of shops with a view overlooking the parking lot. The cafe is easily identifiable by the red lettering above the large window. Upon entering, it may seem ordinary until noticing the black and white photos on the walls, particularly ones of New York. I had a satisfying full English breakfast with a variety of options, accompanied by a mug of tea. While it may have a working-class appearance, the atmosphere is welcoming and there are daily newspapers available for diners. The car park is free, and the restaurant is run by two friendly individuals. Customers order and pay before taking a seat, and there is a steady flow of patrons, especially during peak hours. The lunch menu offers a wide selection ranging from chicken curry to gammon grill, with a dedicated children's menu as well. Additionally, there are sandwiches, burgers, pies, jacket potatoes, and more, ensuring there is something for everyone. The opening hours are from 7:30 am to 3 pm Monday to Friday, and 8 am to 2 pm on Saturdays. Overall, I believe it offers good value for the money."

"Went for light lunch. Food was lovely, according to my kids a bit too much Mayo in the wraps. Waitress was very polite and looked after us. Pictures were taken after I poured my rice into my curry and kids had taken a mouthful Only downside was we weren’t greeted that nicely by the older lady, it was like she didn’t really want us to come in. Both myself and my wife said goodbye to her and got no reply. She was obviously busy but should always look to say goodbye to your customers."
