"From initial emails back and forth, to arriving on the day, we could not have asked for more. The team were prompt to respond and so friendly and helpful throughout. The team had even attached some pretty decorations to the ceiling, and we were able to arrive slightly earlier than the booked time to decorate further. The food was exceptional, a great range of freshly made sandwiches, cakes, scones with jam and cream alongside homemade coleslaw and salad. The drink choice was extensive and everyone was able to find something they enjoyed (with great comments about the hot chocolate and coffee in particular! The baby shower overran slightly but we were able to stay a little past closing time, which was really appreciated too. After only being to the cheeky bean a couple of times before for brunch and coffee, I will certainly be visiting more often and will continue to recommend this lovely business. A big thankyou again. "Five star service is not exactly what you expect when you enter the Cheese Yard Restaurant but it's very true, it is a very casual place and very homely, it's not a pub more of an upmarket Café although it's off down a country lane that leads to nowhere apart from nice countryside walks and a amazing view of the Glastonbury Tor. It's definitely a hidden gem and the food on offer is like your Mum makes, really crispy potatoes or chips and generous portions, perfect place to meet family and friends for Breakfast, Lunch or Afternoon Tea with a choice of Amazing cakes. Did l mention Dog Friendly too and l mean so much fuss was made of my 2 Puggies they felt like celebraties. Can't wait to return."

"First night of a long weekend in Rode looking after a couple of chocolate Labradors, we were able to sit and eat without the dogs being a problem. Me and my life like real ale and they had a couple of choices from Butcombe brewery, the ale was kept and served well. The menu was great and they helped my wife who is dairy free and marked down all of the items on the menu that were, or could be made, dairy free, great service! When our food came it was lovely, well presented and tasted awesome. They are actually booked out most days so we were lucky to get in, we tried to book for Sunday lunch which they managed to squeeze us in, so we are looking forward to going back for this. Highly recommended but try to book your table in advance by a few days at least so that you’re not disappointed."

"We spent 2 nights at the inn with friends. What a wonderful time we had, all the staff were fabulous. All were very friendly and very attentive especially Richard. The rooms were comfortable and had everything we needed. We will definitely be making a return visit. Food drinks: We had breakfast, lunch and evening meals. Everything we ordered was excellent, could not find fault with the service or the quality of the food. Also very well presented."

"This restaurant is not ideal for anyone looking for a quick meal. It took a very long time to place our order as we were seemingly forgotten. Other customers who arrived after us were served before we were. It took over 40 minutes from ordering to receiving our food. The food was delicious, but the slow service was a letdown. Nobody asked about our experience, and when clearing the plates, the staff did not say anything other than "have you finished.""

"This place was such a good find! My friend and I go away at this time of the year to explore various gardens and we picked to stay here as it was close to Wells. Having stayed in Wells once before, I remembered that the parking wasn't very easy so we decided to stay a short distance outside. Our hosts, Peter and Veryan, were the best I have ever come across in an establishment of this sort. They and their staff were so personable and did everything they could to make our stay so comfortable. Veryan was the breakfast chef and everything was cooked fresh to order and Olly was the restaurant chef. His guinea fowl risotto we had one night was out of this world (and we were keen to tell him so). A special mention should also go to Janey who was on hand every breakfast time. The pub also served as a small village shop and a drop off point for Evri parcels, all of which made it the hub of the community. Villagers would call in for their daily paper or milk and would stop for a coffee or even breakfast. I have never seen anythng quite like it so impressive. The place and the weather really have made this a memorable holiday for us! Thank you."

"I went with friends to the Royal Oak, Walton on Friday 11th August. When we arrived, we gave the name of the person who had booked the table. The waitress had no reservation for us, despite booking several weeks earlier, and having received confirmation. It was not busy, so a table was found for us. We purchased drinks, and sat at our table. The waitress brought the menus and left us to browse the menu. Several minutes later the waitress returned for our orders. We gave our orders, and the waitress looked confused. She then realised she had given us the wrong menus. The menus were then changed, and we were then asked to choose from this new menu. The second menu was not as interesting as the first one, however we made our choices. One of the group of 4 then asked if there was Garlic in her choice of food as she is allergic to Garlic. The waitress went into the kitchen to ask the chef. She returned and informed us that EVERYTHING, yes EVERYTHING has Garlic in it. Even the batter that the fish is coated in has Garlic in it! Unbelievable. Obviously we could not stay, so we finished our drinks, and left hungry. There was a Stoney silence from the waitress as we paid for our drink on the way out. We went into the local town, and got takeaway Fish and Chips. Not quite the meal we had planned to celebrate 2 birthdays in the coming week. 3 of the diners live in the village, and have lived there for many years. It is unlikely that we shall return. A VERY UNHAPPY BIRTHDAY!"

"Stayed at a B&B close by, needed somewhere to eat. Was surprised to see the difference to interior to exterior design. Lovely open area to sit, fairy lights on ceiling in one room, an assortment of ornaments on shelves in another. Very friendly, helpful staff. Good choice of food, though slightly expensive. Lovely beer battered fish and chips. Nice range of cider. The added bonus was they accepted dogs into the pub/restaurant, which several others also attended. Exterior could do with a ‘makeover’ to match interior."

"When I visited the Burcott Inn on a June weekday, I expected to be presented with a menu similar to the (example? menus downloaded from the The Burcott Inn website with the green Burcott Inn header (attached to review . Instead, upon arrival, the much more limited bar food menu printed on a single plain A4 piece of paper (also uploaded with this review was handed to me. The downgraded menu was not what had been expected and the more limited options actually on offer were a disappointment. I understand that the Burcott Inn has just had a change of management in the last 2-3 months so they may still be getting themselves sorted. Unfortunately, although the Burcott Inn seems a decent watering hole, I felt I had been lured there under false menu pretences ..."

"I have not stayed here , but would love to. The service and environment was just perfect for a family Sunday lunch and we had a great time exploring this historic pub. We were in the dungeon which sounded ominous but turned out to be a warm, welcoming ambient room for larger tables if guests. The menu offered a really good selection, very important as some of our party were vegetarian pescatarian. I can recommend hand on heart this is one of the loveliest pub experiences I have had in the UK for as long as I can remember. Shame I only have personal pics . Food drinks: Excellent !"

"First impression when arriving is the car park and garden is a bit tatty and untidy. Weeds everywhere and lawn and patio not looked after. When entering, the environment is nice, clean and airy, so looking better. The dining area also very nice looking and bright and clean. The table service was indifferent. I ordered a Kingfisher beer and a Cobra was brought to the table. The food was also disappointing. There are no skills in the kitchen on a Saturday (maybe they have a different cook on other days). The Chicken Tikka starter was dull tasting, and the chicken was pre cooked before going into the tandoor, so it was dry and tasteless not tender as juicy as it should be. The main meals were also nice on presentation, however taste was unbalanced and overpowering. The Chicken Tikka Masala was far too sweet, and the Chicken Dhansak was not pleasant at all like eating a pot of Caribbean pepper sauce (much too hot), and not sweet and sour. The naan bread was good. Service: Dine in Meal type: Dinner Price per person: £50–60 Food: 1 Service: 2 Atmosphere: 3"

"Outstanding service!!! Wow what an incredible group of waiters/waitresses! We had a group evening meal of 14 people here on a Saturday night in Dec. It was a Xmas set menu which we preordered and that was all communicated and organised effectively prior to the evening. On the evening itself, the service provided was the best we’ve ever had and the whole group truly felt like we were the only table in the pub. The staff were so attentive to what was going on, when the best time was for the meals to come out, when people wanted drinks, when to bring out a birthday cake honestly no one had to ask for a single thing because they were just so on it. The food was amazing, filling and we were all served literally at the same time so no one was waiting for food because it all come together. Just amazing amazing amazing. If you are looking for a pub in Somerset to host a hassle free, tasty group meal I genuinely couldn’t recommend this pub more. We can’t wait to return. Thank you!!"

"We made a reservation well in advance to guarantee a table for a pre-Christmas meal with our family, and we were not disappointed. The atmosphere was lovely, and the staff made us feel welcome as soon as we walked in. The food was top-notch, with excellent quality, generous portions, and affordable prices. We had a perfect evening and would rate it 10/10."

"We stopped by this restaurant in Wells for lunch as it was the only option open in the afternoon. As vegetarians, we decided to try the mushroom burgers, which turned out to be simply a large mushroom with salad in a bun. While the bun was nice, it was not exactly what we were expecting in terms of a burger. The food was average, and the restaurant itself was not very clean. The staff were not particularly welcoming, as they mainly spoke to each other and did not inquire about our meal. Overall, the service, atmosphere, and food quality were all rated a 3 out of 5. The price per person was between £10-20. We somewhat recommend this restaurant for vegetarians, as the vegetarian options are clearly labeled on the menu."

"We have just had the most amazing short break staying at this gorgeous hotel. Our room was excellent with a separate bathroom which has a fantastic bath tub! The dinner we enjoyed in the restaurant was cooked and presented to a really high standard and the breakfast the following morning was just WOW. Freshly cooked, served on warm plates and the toast was hot. I don’t know how many times when we have stayed away that we have sent the cold toast back, but not here and nothing was too much trouble. Excellent customer service and all this made our very much needed break away truly memorable. Also just need to add the view of Wells Cathedral from the hotel and bedroom was an added gem Rooms: Our room had an amazing four poster bed and tub bath and walk in shower in the bathroom; lovely fluffy towels. Walkability: A stones throw away from the main shopping street, local market, Cathedral and other pubs and restaurants Food drinks: Great menu for evening meal and breakfast and cooked to perfection Rooms: 5 Service: 5 Location: 5 Hotel highlights: Luxury, Romantic, Quiet, Great value"
"Arrived in the area late afternoon for a week's holiday. The accommodation Guest Information book suggested The Westbury Inn. We had driven a fair distance so wanted something local. Warm welcome and attentive staff, the pub is a typical old English country pub. We tried two of the dishes on offer, Haddock and chips and Duck. All the food we had was well cooked and extremely enjoyable. My only slight negative might be that it is reasonably expensive but definitely a very pleasant place."

"You know what, I'm actually really impressed by The Bell Inn The staff behind the bar and who brought our food out were really professional as well as friendly. My meal was perfect as well. I liked that it came with a mix of veg, it didn't feel too heavy. Others had lasagne and said it was delicious. A few people made the comment that some choices on the menu were also shown on the specials board, it would be better for The Bell Inn to only show their weekly dishes on the specials board instead. I'd be very happy to return."

"This café in Wells is one of my favorites because of its unique atmosphere. The café has a great vibe with adorable decor and a relaxed feel. The food is also enjoyable. While they may not have a wide variety of vegan options, what they do have is delicious and one-of-a-kind. I tried the vegan breakfast, which was unlike any other vegan breakfast I've had before. The portion size was a bit small for the price, with the most substantial items being the vegan sausage and beans, along with mushrooms and tomatoes. They only had one or two vegan cake options, and I opted for the banana peanut butter cake which was delicious. I would love to see more vegan options on their menu in the future."

"The wait staff were young; a lad was vaguely enthusiastic -the rest looked as if they didn 't want to be spending their Friday evening there. I ordered a Build Your Own: chicken, sweet and sour sauce, egg fried rice. It all had very little taste -and what taste it did have was a little unpleasant. The coffee was great -what there was of it -being served in quite a small cup. I asked for a Coke, and was open to being given a Pepsi. I was asked Large or small? I replied Small. I made the correct choice. It seemingly wasn 't even a cheap cola. It tasted dreadful. Some other guests arrived during the course of our meal , and were seated right next to us -even though the restaurant was otherwise completely empty. The lady who took our payment was the only other member of staff to raise something of a smile. My wife said her noodles were ok."
