"I honestly couldn't write a better review.we arrived at 7 and by half past food was being served.woukd have been sooner but was waiting for rest of party to arrive.we has a three course meal which was plentiful and well presented.tomatoe soup was tasty presented nicely and served with a warm bread roll.omg the main was a beef dinner but choice of three with seasonal vegetables and plenty of them Brussels and chestnuts parsnips cabbage mash potatoes peas carrots etc.helped yourself from dishes on the table.the beef was honestly the best beef I've had out was slow roasted and melted in the mouth.beautiful.the dessert again choice of 3 and I had the Christmas pudding which again was faultless.staff was asking if everything ok and was so polite and welcoming.in fact the chef even come to the table and introduced herself and offered her services if anything else was needed not to hesitate to ask.the lady bringing food to the tables was helpful cheerful and lovely too.the food and hospitality was second to none.absolutely lovely.to finish out came a homemade mince pie again no soggy pastry just right.i don't normally wrote reviews but found the need to this time as people are quick enough to complain but not compliment where it's due and this is definately due.the pub was very clean welcoming and had a homely feeling.the toilet were lovely and clean with a basket on the side with sanitary products of needed and deodorants a lovely little touch.all I can say is a big well done to the Sherwood staff and chef etc I thoroughly enjoyed my meal and felt welcome.i will definately be taking my family for a Sunday dinner in the future because there was absolutely nothing to dislike again a big well done all see you soon"

"The Lord Nelson is our local village pub, and this is no ordinary village pub. For the first time, we used the gorgeous private dining room for our early Mother’s Day celebrations on Saturday lunch time. My Husband was the advance party and was waiting for us at the bar, the rest of us wandered into the pub and immediately got a hello, how are you, what can we get you welcome. We moved to Winthorpe last year and checked out the pub, we were greeted in the same way on our first visit as we did today superb customer service. The private dining room (no charge) was a great place for us to be as we are a rowdy family and only find ourselves all together half a dozen times of year, so laughing and gossiping privately didn’t bother anyone else. For starters we ordered double baked cheeses soufflés; ham hock with scallops and black pudding and spring rolls. Each one of us thought the standard of food was exceptional, for main courses we ordered breast of chicken, parmentier potatoes, roast shallot, savoy cabbage and smoked bacon sauce, Nelson beef burger topped with red leicester cheese and smoked bacon in a toasted brioche; 12oz Rib eye steaks; Lobster and king prawn tagliatelle in garlic and tomato sauce served with dough balls and garlic dipping butter (and it wasn’t over powering). The most amazing Shepherds Pie which was a duo of Lamb rumpled and braised meat served with greens, broccoli and rosemary jus. There is a wonderful wine list to choose from, we ordered Baglio Gibellina. Our expectations continued to be exceeded when we all ordered puddings try the Nelson rhubarb trifle, vanilla panna cotta, rhubarb jelly, rhubarb compote and a shortbread crumb; flourless chocolate brownie served with chocolate sauce and chantilly cream and Sticky toffee pudding served with toffee sauce and vanilla ice cream. We were so busy eating we forgot to take any photos of our food, which was exceptional."

"The Willow Tree is a fantastic pub with welcoming hosts. Sarah, Matt and Mika are always welcoming and friendly. I am a regular at the pub as I live in the village and regularly attend some of the events they hold (quiz night, open mic, food nights) The Sunday lunches are also delicious and something I can’t wait to indulge in more over the colder months! I wanted to write a review specifically for the Tapas Night last weekend as it was exceptionally well organised, and the food was authentic and spectacular. We were greeted at the door by 2 friendly waitresses and taken to our table and served our cava whilst the Spanish guitarists played. The smell of garlic and chorizo in the air, I was instantly transported to Spanish holidays I requested the vegan options and was not disappointed. The starter platter of bread and oils etc was vast and of exceptional quality for vegans and meat-eaters alike. A special mention to the delightfully refreshing Gazpacho and the perfectly cooked padrons! The main event was equally plentiful and packed full of flavour. The meat-eaters enjoyed their selection and I was able to have a number of the same dishes for me amongst a few other replacements. Special mention to the Pista and rice and quinoa dish that was a hit with the entire table. I was stuffed! I engaged the pudding stomach at this point for the griddled pineapple in rum and brown sugar with coconut yoghurt . WOW!. All in all a wonderful night, many contented full bellies with that Spanish glow on our faces. Well done to the team for the first pop up and we very much look forward to the next one!"
