"We recently attended a family 21st birthday in the back room at Millfields Hotel. This location had been chosen after we held a 50th birthday there earlier in the year in the Restaurant. I must start by saying that Sommer, one of the bar/restaurant staff, could not have been more helpful even considering the situation of the evening. A buffet had been ordered, like the previous time, to come out at 8pm and it had been requested that we have all savory food, including some hot food and sandwiches, and no cakes. When the buffet was served the majority was plates of cakes, with a couple of bowls of hot food. The quality of the food that was served was poor and when we asked to speak to the manager we were greeted by the Assistant Food and Beverage Manager who said there must have been some kind of miscommunication with the kitchen and she apologised profusely. We were informed that there was a table of 20 that they must serve first and then they would bring out more hot food and some sandwiches to correct the mistake, and would be no longer than 15 minutes. After half an hour of waiting and another family member having to ask for the pots of sauce that also hadn 't been brought out with the hot food, we again asked on the progress of the sandwiches as people had already eaten some of the hot food and what was left was now cold. We were greeted with more apologies and were told the food for the table of 20 had been delayed and therefore we would have to wait longer for the sandwiches. We asked to speak to a higher level of management and were told no one would be in until Monday but we were welcome to wait and speak to someone then, and to 'keep the plates of cakes anyway ' even though we had made it clear we didn 't want them as we had a two tier birthday cake. After nearly an hour and a quarter the sandwiches were finally served 3 plates of. (Ham, Cheese and Egg) Not the fillings, nor quantity or quality, we would have necessarily received should the right buffet selection been given to the kitchen to begin with. We felt very fobbed off and lied to at this point and found the evening poorly organised on the hotels behalf. The lady whom booked this event on behalf of her son, was totally embarrassed and mortified at the hole situation and spent the evening apologising to guests for the delays and poor quality of food. To top it off, and more reason for our review, on Sunday morning multiple guests from different households woke with upset stomachs after all eating at Millfields on the Saturday evening. We were totally disappointed in the evening from start to finish, especially after previous successful family functions held here."

"I've used this cafe most sundays for quite a while. Nice clean cafe/takeaway with friendly service a good range of traditional English breakfasts to suit your pocket and appetite Smashing sunday roast chicken, beef or pork lunches recommended, good quality meat served with fresh vegetables (no frozen or canned rubbish),plus a good Yorkshire pud. On week days the menu is more extensive. I've always been pleased with the food and friendly staff good value for money. More about Barneys As i have already mentioned it's very clean it's also well lit and warm. It has a selection of childrens meals available and baby seating so family friendly. It has it's own restrooms which are also clean and tidy. The layout is a standard table and chairs set up, the chairs are movable so could easily accommodate a buggy or wheelchair if required . There are some car parking spaces across the road and more space in the adjacent side streets, its also on a major bus route. It's cash only here. It also has a 5 food hygiene rating. Food review Dec 2018. I'm still coming here on a regular basis, had my usual traditional Sunday roast dinner here today, still good quality food and service at affordable prices. I happily recommend this place. Food review January 2020. I had my usual traditional roast Beef lunch here again today, a good sized portion of delicious tender roasted beef beef accompanied by a selection of fresh vegetables an oven roasted potato and of course a homemade Yorkshire pud, all perfectly cooked and presented. There's been a small price increase recently, I paid £6.90 for my meal and a mug of tea, still good value for money considering the overall quality of the food, and table service. They also have introduced free Wi-Fi, and an online ordering and delivery service. Update December 2021. As with most others there has been an increase in prices recently, the price of a roast chicken, pork or beef lunch and a mug of tea is now £8.20."

"On a glorious afternoon, we decided to take a long walk to the village as we knew this place had an outdoor beer garden and we could sit in the sun and enjoy a pint. The service was friendly and the beer garden quiet, so...we got exactly what we were looking for. After a couple of drinks and too much sun, we opted to give the restaurant another go (see previous review in Dec Again, service friendly and efficient (albeit we were the only ones in there) and the deal was good value: for dishes from the Tapas menu and a bottle of house wine. We were even allowed to swap the Chardonnay offered for a Pinot, so far, so good. That was where the positives ended I'm afraid. Tapas it was not. We have friends who own a Tapas place and eat there all the time, we've also had the Tapas at Abby's on several occassions, so we know what we were expecting. Meatballs were tiny and cooked to within an inch of their lives, sauce was too salty. Lamb had been cremated and in the same over-seasoned sauce ontop of what was clearly salad' left over from the previous day as I expect, were all the dishes. Potatoes were okay' but the worst two dishes by far were the beef in white wine and garlic and the mixed seafood Paella. The beef was chewy and whatever it had been cokoked in rendered it inedible. Horrible, vinegary taste. The Paella was not Paella. It was Uncle Ben's WHITE? rice, with a few tiny, tiny prawns, three rings of rubbery squid and two mussels. I suspect, straight from the freezer fish pie mix from Morrisons. No seasoning, nothing. A hugely disappointing meal yet again. We heard some guys talking in the garden about how poor the restaurant is and how badly it is losing customers now we know why. This was second chance saloon for this place and unfortunately, it failed again. Can't fault the friendliness of the staff/owners and we will probably visit for another drink, but no way will we part with cash for food here in the future. Such a shame, this place could be so good."

"So.. have our favourite Chinese.. but as the menu came through my door.. thought we'd try something different! Delivery came with 40 minutes and had a really lovely Chinese lady (masked up delivering.. polite, friendly and super smiley (through her eyes! We ordered a range of food. Chicken wings with Spicy salt and chilli. Great starter.. about 6 large portions.. very very salty! Not for faint hearted.. and quite spicy due to the chilli. Fresh sliced chilli also scattered over the dish. Very nice.. moist chicken.. hot in temperature too. A little too salty for me.. but was expected.. as that's the nature of it really! Lol. Crispy shredded chilli beef. Hot, sweet and lovely and crunchy. My usual place.. very syrupy and chewy. Not here. The sauce.. chilli, ginger and soy I think.. sweet but hot. A really good dish. Chicken satay. Hot, rich and some peanut taste. Not obvious peanut pieces or flavour.. but still a nice dish with tender chicken and many veg. Mixed balls sweet and sour. King prawns and chicken. Beautiful. Hot, soft yet the batter crunchy to perfection. The sauce a little runny for my liking, sweet and a hint of spice.. maybe ginger. All very nice. Vegetable fried rice. Light, fluffy and full of veg. Mushrooms quartered and soft, other traditional veg crunchy and tasty. Chips.. usual frozen.. but as expected.. cooked to perfection. Extra curry sauce. Great flavour.. not salty. Not the usual Chinese curry.. a lot better I think. Free prawn crackers were great. Again.. different to the norm. Thinner and lighter than most. Delicate flavour and texture. Very good indeed. Never tried here before.. but this was a most pleasant experience. I have a feeling we will be ordering again one day! Good luck to all who are new.. I get the feeling it is a family run business.. and going by this order and service... deserve much success."

"I have dipped today for lunch, one of the smokeiest eaters I know and it was absolutely amazing. service was fast, polite and professional. the food was asked by a high standard, presented well and 100% the price. I had a chocolate milkshake and it was delicious, didn't taste like the cheap milkshakes selling some caffes at all. my panini was hot but not tasty, which was a pleasant surprise and I could eat my lunch without the unpleasant waiting time for my eating to cool. the house made cramps next to my panini served sensational I had never had anything like it before. although my lunch was completely satisfying, I could not go without trying one of the nice cakes. I had strawberry cheesecake, and in person I love berries but all artificial strawberry tasting I can't like. Now, this strawberry cheesecake is the only strawberry cheesecake I've ever enjoyed and tasted. the cream cheese is earthy taste with comminuted strawberries in it, I never had such good quality desert everywhere in cleethorpes. the deserts are definitiw the money worth and the portions are of perfect size. the decor is quirky and perfectly matching the name mad hadrs tea room . the teeroom has yet a professional note in which they are looking for when they eat somewhere. everything was intact and no single piece of dust everywhere. I also find being a goth myself, I get in the regular negative promotions from the employees in the caffes etc. but in this case I felt 100% welcome, which was a great experience for me and my partner. this tea room is a unique place and very welcoming with high quality food and service. I would recommend to eat here. it's an experience they don't find anywhere else and I'm going to see 100% again to try more from the menu."

"My usual takeaway was closed.. so a great excuse to be not loyal' for once! No online menu.. so had to describe roughly what we wanted! But the lady on the phone was really helpful! Sweet and sour chicken/prawn balls. Crispy, fully cooked batter, tender...insides and the sauce was really tasty. Not at all greasy.. despite being fried. Excellent. Not brightly coloured like some.. and a good thick consistency. Shreaded beef in a hot and sweet sauce was amazing! Spicy and sweet. The more you ate.. the more your tastebuds came alive! Quite an after-kick! Chicken fried rice was quite a plain dish in comparison.. but still had a good, clean and fresh taste. Usual few peas scattered amongst the rice and generous amounts of sliced chicken. Vegetable curry was our final main. Stir fried charred flavour, with a good range of veg. Curry sauce mild flavour and not too salty. Perfect. Side of chips.. great.. cooked to perfection. Outside crisp.. inside soft and fluffy. (They are the usual frozen variety though Good to see they weren't pre salted. Many places now do that which isn't great. Had a vegetable/spring roll as an extra treat. It was one of those huge ones! The filo outside was thin and crunchy as expected! And also non greasy. The inside was simply lots and lots of bean sprouts. Nothing else. Wasn't the most exciting or tasty of rolls! But mixed with the various dishes before.. it was fine. Free prawn crackers included. They were nice and light, and like the rest of the food.. not greasy! Fab. Delivery was fast. Unfortunately the driver had used up their change on a previous customer.. so they got a healthy tip! (Mind you.. would have given a couple of quid anyway The delivery lady was really friendly.. very pleasant manner.. great service from the initial phone call to delivery. The food was clean, freshly made and included many veg. Carrot, onion, green peppars to name but a few. I will order again... and must call in to pick up a menu!"

"We popped in for some lunch on our way home and having never been before we thought we’d give this place a try. It was busy so we thought this might be a good sign... The menu was basic, mainly sandwiches, wraps and buns with very few hot choices. Neither Of us wanted a large lunch so we ordered a vegetable soup each and two pots of tea. The drinks arrived quickly and were ok, but the cups are the type where you cannot pick them up solely by the handle without balancing the hot cup against your fingers...not practical or particularly easy to drink out or even pleasant. When the vegetable soup arrived it smelt ok and tasted ok, that was until I discovered it also had bits of pasta, baked beans and potato lurking inside! I would never have ordered vegetable soup had I known it wasn’t vegetable soup, and more a minestrone! Upon closer inspection it actually looked like tinned soup (and not a very good one! , that had had a few fresh vegetables and some extra flavouring thrown in it. I left all of my veg as I got fed up of trying to pick out pasta and beans I also left the white bread bun that accompanied it, as I only eat wholemeal bread and no choice option was was given. As we paid no one asked if our food was ok, and I would have said what I felt given that opportunity, so I’m writing this review instead. This cafe only takes cash as well so that was another inconvenience as I’d just used the last of my cash. Would not recommend and probably won’t return, £12 for soup that gave me indigestion and I only drank the liquid!"
