"Booking was no trouble and parking was easy and well signed. Entrance fee was as expected. On arrival at the cafe we had to queue next to a sign that said the cafe was closed for a private party. It wasn't but it was facing the queue so appeared to be relevant although out of date. When we were seated it became obvious that we would have to queue again to order food, in the billowing and potent stench of the meaty barbecue for a good 15 minutes. As vegetarians this was not ideal but my mother, who is not vegetarian also found it almost unbearable too. When we reached the front of the queue the order was taken and then there was an odd arrangement where we had to wait to the side of the queue for drinks and then take a buzzer for the food. This strategy resulted in a long wait to order and an unfortunate safety issue for staff coming in and out of the kitchen who had to navigate the edge of a granite table, a queue of people and carry piles of plates. There was potential for something serious to go wrong at some stage but not our concern of course. There followed a lengthy wait for food. From being seated to the buzzer going off was an hour and we were not told of a delay on food on ordering. When the meals arrived, they were average with the flatbread being reheated from an earlier point in the day, very chewy and hard. We ordered 2 meals the same which arrived with quite different ingredients. The children's activity packs included with entry were brilliant to be honest and it was these that saved the day after such a long wait for food. The 2 tables next to us needed clearing and were not tended to until near the end of our meal. It was busy but not full to capacity at the time. I would recommend visiting hoveton hall, but it would be tricky to recommend the cafe unless the ordering and preparation system was reviewed. Will visit next year to see if anything has changed."

"We entered the hotel and were greeted by sign advertising for staff, which suggested and indeed was confirmed throughout the meal, that they were short staffed and the new people not fully trained. I think it’s possible to get away with this in the fast food restaurants of the world, but more difficult to hide in what is regarded as a main stream restaurant. The main restaurant was closed and the more informal garden room with its doors open to the world was a pleasant enough setting, although somewhat unsuited the bottles and cans scattered around the table we sat down to eat.I dislike food not served on the plate, so I was immediately wary of the starter, tempera prawns that were delivered in minature wire baskets. Actually they were quite nice, (but it seems to me) that the chef must lack confidence in his food if he feels the need to distract. The fish and chips were nice although very expensive and not the haddock advertised on the menu. They were served without tartar, or even the offer of tartar, another indication of the staff training need.My colleague’s liver and bacon looked stunning and was quickly consumed with a finishing mmmmmmmmmmmh. However, we were all disappointed by the dogs that appeared initially in the bar and ultimately in the restaurant! there was no indication when we booked that this was to be the case, and it did cause us to leave early and somewhat dissatisfied."

"I attempted to call this establishment over 100 times, when i did manage to get through the first time nobody was actually on the phone.. then the second time i managed to get through i was told that their system had gone down and that we should come down to order in person instead. So i drove down, queued for 15 minutes because everybody else had presumeably been told the same. I finally place an order with them at 18:25 then i go outside and wait the 25 minutes i was told to wait and seemingly no order.. being understanding i waited further with the many other outside.. 25 minutes turned into an hour and a half wait. I got inside and ask about my order and that turns into a further 10 minutes which was really another 20 minutes. I 'm finally home 2 hours after placing my initial order, there are items missing, the attempts of consoling waiting customers with fortune cookies was poor and taking orders (i understand you have a business to run, but sort out your muck up first) while over 20 people are waiting. I noticed the hotswapping of tickets in the kitchen into (assumingly) priority order i.e bigger orders to smaller quicker orders. This system in itself meaning my order had been left for an exponential amount of time . My partners mother has called them also to complain and was met with hositility from the person behind the counter saying you 're just shouting at me.. what am i meant to do? And refusal to pass on the complaint being issued to them. All in all, I 'm deeply disatisfied with the service i 've recieved tonight being my first time using them myself and alongside a consistent visitation from my partners family; It will be safe to say that we will be refusing to offer our custom to them in future. Also my partners mother has gone down to get rectification for whats missing from the order.. Good luck, guys!"
