"We came back to try this restaurant after not being able to get a booking last summer as the reviews looked good and it always seems to have a queue. Overall I felt a little let down, and was expecting better food (and selection), especially for the prices they are charging. But I the staff were super friendly and the service was good. We had calamari and black pudding to start, but the calamari was so deep fried it felt like I was at a take away. The black pudding was nice enough and the accompanying chutney went well with it. The calamari didn't taste bad but if you have access to fresh fish then why deep fry the hell out of it. So many other places do a light, tempura style batter, that is so much nicer. It just felt a little unimaginative. For mains we had scallops and hot smoked salmon, and I would say I was a bit disappointed with the options in general. I expected a broader selection of fillets, other than just salmon. The scallops were cooked well and tasted fine, but again I wasn't blown away. I didn't think the beetroot puree went well with them personally and potatoes and a side salad also felt a bit simple. The hot smoked salmon was again fine, but nothing fantastic, and lacked any depth of flavour. Overall the food was fine, we had no complaints in terms of quality, it just felt like they are missing a trick with all the fresh fish they have, as it all felt a bit bland and for the price I walked away feeling a bit let down"

"It's not a bad hotel, but it could use vast improvements. I stayed one night. Long review ahead... Staff Service: Accommodating and lovely. They deserve five stars, but the hotel itself does not. Location: Right along the water. Great views (from the restaurant). Food: The breakfast was overcooked. Not good when I needed a steak knife to cut my eggs and hash-brown. Hotel: A very trusting hotel. No outside doors are locked overnight, so anyone could wander in. I assume there are no homeless drunks in Portree because where I'm from, there would homeless sleeping in the hallways. Room: Stayed in the Partial View room, and is overpriced. Unless you enjoy the view of parked cars, noise, an outdated bathroom and missing furniture. WARNING: Room is next to both restaurant and outside doors. If you enjoy doors slamming all night and people talking outside your room, then book it. Hotel was fully booked, so I had no choice. The furniture is mismatched. Combination of Ikea and cheap antique furniture. Bed was tough. No fridge, desk or table, and so cannot eat drink tea. Must book their restaurant (if you can) or use drying rack as a table. Don't expect milk. Bathroom should be gutted: bathroom door doesn't lock (even though there is one), shower-head is broken and sprays everywhere, ceiling paint is chipping, shower handle peeling off, and hot water takes a few (4-5) mins to run."
