"Just popped in whilst travelling through, and what a wonderful joyful find this cute little cafe was. Although the ceilings are low, the decor was well thought out and stylish. Now, onto the food and drink delightful little handmade baked cakes were delicious and just the right amount of moisture. We have a choice of 3 shared between us because they all looked so good and we didn't want to miss out. Drinks were speedy and tasty, the perfect accompanying refreshments. The lovely lady who served us was warm welcoming and very attentive. When we next pass through we are Definitely Stopping in here ! Well done Cobblers Tea Room! Bob on!"

"I’ve ordered food from this business multiple times since moving into the area recently, and the standard of food and service has been so high every time. Lovely friendly people, good nostalgic range of food and drinks and I have to say, although some places vary, it’s remained consistently the best fish chips I’ve ever had consistently. Highly recommend checking this place out Service: Take out"

"I just tried the beef curry and it was amazing, I can still taste it. I also enjoyed a southern comfort to finish off the meal. The staff were friendly and I highly recommend this restaurant! 5 stars for sure."

"I had a wonderful experience at this hotel on Monday. The room was comfortable and lovely, the food was fabulous (both breakfast and dinner), and the staff was great. The hotel was spotlessly clean, bright, and airy, creating a really nice atmosphere. I highly recommend staying here, especially if you plan on visiting Gigrin Farm Red Kite feeding station, which is only half a mile away."

"This is a great place to launch a walk along the Sever way. Nowhere is perfect so let's look at the hotels short commings first. Der, not easy, parking is on the street so your posh car might get wet, bus stop (fabulous x75) right outside. Bed a little soft for me but Cate likes it like that, light of the heating system a bit bright, but good if you get up in the night, breakfast a bit large if you are going to sit around all day, but perfect if going for a walk. Honestly folks this is a gorgeous little hotel with open beams and modern woodwork. Great service and good food. Oh, and that picnic lunch? Next door is an amazing small bakery. We will defoe back."

"My wife and I dropped in at lunch on the off chance. I was initially concerned as they had a sign saying no service outside due to staff shortages but we decided to sit inside and give it a go. The barman was helpful and served a really good pint! I ordered a rump steak and my wife ordered a veggie lasagne. My steak was perfectly cooked, extremely tender and full of flavour. The chips were crispy outside, fluffy inside and not a trace of grease. The lasagne was nice and cheesy and moist, not a dried up offering you often get. Well done the White Hart despite the staffing challenges. We won’t hesitate in returning when next in the area."

"I have stayed at this hotel several times over the years and it has always been my go-to choice for food and accommodation in Newtown. The restaurant meals and breakfast have consistently been amazing, and the staff has always been friendly and lovely. However, I regret to say that I will never stay or eat here again. The staff were abrupt and unwelcoming, and our room at the front of the hotel, opposite a noisy nightclub, was substandard and reminiscent of the 1970s. The furniture was mismatched and basic, and the room felt very cramped. The TV only had Japanese channels, and there was no terrestrial TV, only iPlayer. Despite the cleanliness of the room, the overall experience was disappointing. There was no food available at the hotel pub, which seemed odd, but after the terrible breakfast the next day, it was probably for the best. The breakfast was appalling - there were no glasses, butter, fruit juices, or cutlery without requesting them, and the waitress was disinterested and unapologetic. The set breakfast served on a plate could not be altered in any way, and the quality of the food was poor. We ended up leaving the hotel to find something else to eat in town. The breakfast room had a negative atmosphere, likely influenced by the waitress, and overall, it was a disappointing experience compared to previous visits. It's a shame, as the hotel and pub had been lovely on our previous stays."

"I am surprised by some reviews and confused. We booked a table during their busy evening, on arrival the restaurant was busy. We were greeted and seated in a pleasant position at the back of the restaurant. The bathroom was clean and the restaurant was...nicely decorated. The menu was extensive with a great and varied choice. We were adventurous and thought we’d try two different set menus and in fact we were not disappointed. The food was fresh and hot and tasty I couldn’t fault it there was plenty of spice for those that like it and for those that don’t. To be honest there was too much food from these choices we made and we had to leave an awful lot a thing I don’t like to do or waste but truthfully said it was too much food for 4 people. The owner came over twice to make sure everything was nice and that we were happy. I would recommend this restaurant, it was nice to talk to the servers who I think were all part of the family as they were certainly all Thai. Well done Chang"

"We had high hopes for our fish and chips lunch after traveling 80 miles to stay nearby for a few days. However, we were extremely disappointed with this restaurant. The staff was unfriendly and unwelcoming, and the tables were sticky as if they hadn't been cleaned in ages. Before ordering, I had to visit the restroom, which was just acceptable but in need of updating. The cod and chips we ordered were overly greasy, with too much batter on the fish and chips that tasted like they had been re-cooked. The total cost for our meal, including a cup of tea each, came to £18. The tea tasted like dishwater, as the server simply threw the tea bags in a pot, swished some hot water around for a few seconds, and served this unappetizing liquid as tea. Overall, this restaurant is in need of updates and its staff require training in cooking and customer service. I regret to say that I cannot recommend this place at all, as our experience was quite unpleasant."

"Had a great meal here, parked on the street outside, very, very friendly and great service. My wife has a lot of food intolerances and the staff made completely sure she could order a suitable meal and were very understanding and polite. The food came quickly, and the portions were a great size, no chance of leaving hungry. The food was very tasty, the “homemade” lasagne was full of flavour and I’m confident was homemade, forget the factory made servings in the well known chains, this was full of meat, tomato and cheese and all the food was piping hot. Other than my favourite Italian restaurant and mother in law, this was definitely the next best lasagne I’ve had the pleasure to eat, as I said to my wife, you can tell the quality of an establishment by the quality of the lasagne."

"The restaurant looked lovely. However, when we sat down, seats weren't comfortable, and some of it was ripped. The toilets were freezing cold and needed doing up, including the gents. Even my husband complained how cold the toilets were. The food was ok, but I had the lamb dish which wasn't cooked properly chewy. Chicken was too soft, not sure if it was under done, as we both had bad stomachs the next day. The service was excellent and friendly but they need to improve on their flavours, cook better and maybe get new furniture in, including sorting out the toilets. Shame only one curry house in the Town."

"The White Lion saved the day for us tonight. We had made a reservation at a restaurant that wasn't real and found ourselves with nowhere to eat last minute, with tired and hungry children. The White Lion was able to seat our large group on short notice. The staff were incredibly patient and helpful, the food arrived quickly and was delicious. It was great value and the restaurant had a lovely cozy atmosphere. We are so grateful for saving our evening. The breakfast the next morning was also amazing, the kids were thrilled."

"We called here for a cup of coffee and a bite to eat before heading back on a 3 hour trip home. We asked if our dog was welcome and she said yes we were the only ones there at this time. After sitting, the cafe started getting busier as well as the post office. The lady serving was on her own running both the cafe and post office. The only word to describe her is rude. She definitely needs to learn some manners and respect her customers she made us feel very uncomfortable and un welcome. One of our coffees got spilt and I waited in the post office for 10 minutes to ask for something to clean it up as there wasn’t even a napkin in sight! I tried to help clean it and got shouted at by the owner saying ‘only I can clean it up not you’ she then just said £4 for the coffees no please or thank you or any consideration for the fact we wanted to order food. We paid and left immediately without drinking the rest of our drinks. Just avoid! But if you do choose to go, you will probably be turned away very abruptly anyways as she doesn’t allow more than 2 customers!"

"Stopped for lunch in Talgarth whilst travelling along road to Brecon very pretty village btw! Really charming cafe, with walls lined with books and retro decoration. Fabulous lunch we both had the baked potato with chilli, which sounds basic but was much nicer than you normally get. Good potato and the chilli had some heat, which you don't normally get in pub/cafe chilli. Good salad and coleslaw came with it. We enjoyed it so much that we came for lunch again on our way back from Pembroke. This time we had sandwiches, both excellent, and seriously recommend the roast lamb with mint sauce sandwich served hot, great meat, very tasty indeed. Lovely staff, good value, big portions. Will head straight here when in area again."

"First visit to the cider mill under this ownership. Sunday lunch. We thoroughly enjoyed our meal. Good choice of meat and plenty of vegetables with cauliflower cheese. Extra gravy served with your meal. Could not fault the meal at all. What stood out for me was the warm attentive waitress. She was exceptional. If you are lucky enough to have Katie attending your table you will know exactly what I mean. She is a breath of fresh air. She is unaware of how good she is. Polite, funny and very switched on with the ability to read a table before you actually request something. She’s on the ball even amongst a very busy Sunday roast room. Only constructive criticism I would recommend, is that this restaurant monopolises on the name of the establishment “cider mill” and offer a local or even a Welsh cider selection."

"We were pleasantly surprised by the delicious food at Yummy Kitchen in Crickhowell. After a long day of riding, my brother and I found that all the local pubs had stopped taking food orders, except for Yummy Kitchen which was still serving until 9:30pm. We decided to try the large cod and chips and were blown away by how tasty it was. The cod was the best I've ever had, with a delicious batter and tender, flavorful fish inside. Despite being one of the last orders of the day, the chips were still fresh and delicious. The portion size was huge, and we initially thought we wouldn't be able to finish it all, but the food was so good that we couldn't bear to waste any of it. If I ever find myself in the area again, I would definitely return to Yummy Kitchen for more of their amazing cod and chips. I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for top-notch fish and chips."

"Booked for first time Sunday lunch for myself and my disabled mum who is in her 70s. We arrived and were seen by a male waiter who informed us our table wasn't yet ready which was fine but we were informed there was nowhere to sit inside with a drink whilst we waited. There were two empty tables by the bar so we presumed these were booked for diners about to arrive. We were told we could sit outside but this wasn't suitable for my mum so we sat in the car. We went back 15 minutes later and the table still wasn't ready. We were informed the diners using our booked table were getting ready to pay and the table would be cleaned soon. The one table however which had been empty , had a couple who arrived after us , sitting having drinks and were then taken through to eat ? My mum cannot stand up for long at all but a female waitress did notice her struggle and she was kind enough to fetch mum a chair. We waited 20 minutes until the table was free which wasn't a great start. However the service from the female staff was exceptionally prompt and friendly and our mushroom starters arrived quickly and were delicious. I had a roast dinner , mum had salmon. Part of my food wasn't all hot but i am not too bothered and I enjoyed mine. Most of mums was tepid and although staff checked if our meals were okay we didn't feel we wanted to say anything. They didn't have any cheesecake left for dessert so I didn't have anything else but mum's lemon meringue she said was lovely. So all in all a mixed review with some parts better than others and one we left unsure if we would rush to go back."

"Great fish and chip bar. Quick service considering how busy it gets. Only thing that lets it down for me is the pukka pies.. the steak and kidney pies are more like the ones Tesco sell (with the red foil bases) rather than the silver based ones i'm used to (silver are larger and meatier).. This seems common in Wales though so maybe Pukka don't sell the same ones in Wales. Parking can ve awkward....Other than that it is an outstanding place to get fish and chips. "Great kebab shop, varied menu . Had the combi doner and lofted kebab, meat was good quality and very tasty. I like the way they cut the diner into smallish slices as opposed to the long slices I'm used to, made a nice change. Generous portions, also had the cheesy chips with garlic sauce which were gorgeous. A group of lads got in just before us but they were served super quick and so were we. Friendly guys running it. If you are in rhayader and fancy a quick, decent and enjoyable takeaway this is the place to go."
