"We has a two day mid week break here between 14th and 16th of December courtesy of a Travelzoo deal. Given the generosity of the terms we weren't expecting too much, but were really pleasantly surprised by the experience. Despite outside temperatures down to as low as 11C overnight and a local outbreak of seasonal lurgies that meant that they were short of staff the welcome was warm and courteous. The Wynnstay appears to privately owned and this means that it packed with thoughtful and charming little personal touches. Real coffee bags and Welsh tea in the rooms, fresh butter on the table cut from an actual block, not in the usually ubiquitous individual foil packs. Catering here is superb. All ingredients are locally sourced and cooked to a uniformly excellent standard by a multiple award winning kitchen. I urge you (if you are either carnivore or omnivore) to try the chef's signature duck. Worth going back for on it's own, (and we will), but everything that we tried was of a similar standard. Wine is imported by the owner directly from single vineyards in Italy and is both very good and reasonably priced, not an equation that one comes across too, as was the menu, which meant the £30pp allowance we had with our deal went quite a long way . I loved the décor, not made over by some corporate entity, but clearly painstakingly collected and augmented over a long period of time and the Christmas decorations were lovely. There was plenty to do in the locale despite the cold snap. The town has some lovely shops pubs and cafes, small enough to walk around in an hour or so, big enough to lose an afternoon browsing and or indulging. There are plenty of interesting attractions in a half hour drive or so, including the coast and of course the local Welsh countryside is beautiful. All in all a real find of a place for us. It deserves to be overrun, but selfishly, I really hope it isn't. It really is a little hidden gem."

"arrived for a 3 night stay on Monday 9th August. Already knew we couldn 't book in until 5.30 due to extra covid cleaning but did not realise the pub doesn 't open until 5pm on a monday so as it was raining we sat in the car in the pub car park until the owners arrived. When they did we were promptly asked to move our car as it was in a nearby neighbours parking spot, in a pub car park clearly sign posted for customer use only . we were however given our keys to our room early and grabbed our bags and entered through the door at the back of the pub to be greeted with the smell of damp, some 1970s lino and curtains hanging off the rail. we went upstairs to our room and just stood and looked around in dismay. it was awful. you expect old as in sloping floors ect in such an historic building but it was just awful. not enough room to swing a cat. one of the two wall lights hanging off. the smallest en-suite i have ever seen but to be honest we would have coped with that but it was the filth everywhere . dirt and dust thick on everything. light fittings, tv, windowsill, even the kettle. there was scum around the bathroom taps, the shower seal was black and the wallpaper was peeling off. considering the place was having extra covid cleaning i was stunned. £75 a night for that. We took a walk down the high street and managed to get rooms elsewhere and returned to collect our things and gave the keys back, happy for them to keep the deposit as in the small print for cancellation but it has been paid back to me."

"Really poor food I'm afraid. Steak was full of sinew, very chewy, cooked very raw when asked for medium well, peas tasted very strange, pie tasted stale and tasteless. Beer also poor, asked for a pint and a pint of shandy, the pint tasted very much like the shandy but was assured it was beer, in which case it tasted appalling. Paid for extra bacon on our boy's pizza but hardly any was added. And for the poor quality it was extremely expensive. Food: 1"

"What a great pub. Good food, just had a Massive New Yorker Butger and fries, with onion rings, slaw and salad on a wooden platter. Excellent fresh coffee too and I had a freezing cold Desperado with a chunk or lime. This was mid afternoon too, on a Wednesday. Do not eat anywhere else in Crick, especially the Bear, which is mediocre if you're lucky and top dolkar. We were made most welcome on artival,by a lovely chap behind the Bar, not sure if he was the landlord. Setvice was fast and accurate. Well done all at the Britannia you made our day. Da iawn, we'll be back in numbers next time, for sure. Top banana"

"Decided to have lunch here purely from trip advisor reviews. We were staying in the area for the week. My husband and I were not dissapointed. Lovely friendly welcome. The tearoom is quaint, with original features. I loved reading about the buildings history. We both had leek and potatoe soup. Boy, we were not dissapointed. It tasted amazing! Very filling. We had cakes to takeaway, lots of lovely choices. I had the coffee and walnut my husband had lemon drizzle. Very moist and tasty. I, like others , will definitely recommend a toilet trip. When we are back in the area, we will definitely do a return visit. Thank you."

"Firstly, for those just wanting to know about food, it is fantastic. My girlfriend and I both had pasta dishes and they were delicious. Though the highlight of our experience here was the staff. The friendly, fun, happy staff made us feel so welcome to able to full enjoy our night out. COVID restrictions were followed and there was no rushing us out the door to get the next people in. Fantastic place to eat and drink. Would return again"

"I had a wonderful experience at this hotel on Monday. The room was comfortable and lovely, the food was fabulous (both breakfast and dinner), and the staff was great. The hotel was spotlessly clean, bright, and airy, creating a really nice atmosphere. I highly recommend staying here, especially if you plan on visiting Gigrin Farm Red Kite feeding station, which is only half a mile away."

"Wow, what a stunning little hotel. Lovely relaxed atmosphere led by efficient, helpful staff, and absolutely gorgeous, beautifully presented food that looks as good as it tastes. Immaculate room and beds that felt nigh on perfect. Two minor (and I mean minor) nitpicks one is the lack of dedicated parking, but not difficult to find a space, if not outside, in the public car park just round the corner. The other was the piercing blue 'off ' LED on the heating controls being quite bright when trying to get to sleep. If they are the biggest gripes tho, I hope that shows how good everything else was. A good 4.5 stars and look forward to next time Rooms: 5 Service: 5 Location: 4"

"Fantastic gluten free fish and chips. All chips are fried separately and gluten free items are cooked in a separate frier. I had Beef Madras Curry and Chips which was fantastic, a first for me from a fish and chip shop. The curry was amazing and tasted home cooked. The chips were crispy and fluffy in the middle."

"I have stayed at this hotel several times over the years and it has always been my go-to choice for food and accommodation in Newtown. The restaurant meals and breakfast have consistently been amazing, and the staff has always been friendly and lovely. However, I regret to say that I will never stay or eat here again. The staff were abrupt and unwelcoming, and our room at the front of the hotel, opposite a noisy nightclub, was substandard and reminiscent of the 1970s. The furniture was mismatched and basic, and the room felt very cramped. The TV only had Japanese channels, and there was no terrestrial TV, only iPlayer. Despite the cleanliness of the room, the overall experience was disappointing. There was no food available at the hotel pub, which seemed odd, but after the terrible breakfast the next day, it was probably for the best. The breakfast was appalling - there were no glasses, butter, fruit juices, or cutlery without requesting them, and the waitress was disinterested and unapologetic. The set breakfast served on a plate could not be altered in any way, and the quality of the food was poor. We ended up leaving the hotel to find something else to eat in town. The breakfast room had a negative atmosphere, likely influenced by the waitress, and overall, it was a disappointing experience compared to previous visits. It's a shame, as the hotel and pub had been lovely on our previous stays."

"We were very hungry and couldn't find any open restaurants nearby, so we decided to drive to this place. There weren't many people inside, and the menu selection was limited. I ordered the fish cakes and my husband had the chili, both of which were delicious. We were grateful that this place was open for us to eat at. If you enjoy local pubs, you will like this one. It has a cozy, welcoming atmosphere and everyone is very friendly here in Wales. We are really enjoying our time here."

"Went here for dinner with my partner. We ordered a sharing starter and two of the same stir fries for mains. Over an hour after ordering our mains still hadn't came and we then saw a table of about 10 people who arrived after we had finished our starters get their main meals. I asked where our food was and was rudly told your next as the waiter quickly walked away. After about 5 more mins I went to ask again as we had finished our drinks and were also now too hungry to enjoy the food. The waiter said it was coming. I asked to just pay for what we had had already and cancel the mains. He rudly said it was a human error and not their fault so we should stay. They then tried to get me to get the food to go. When I refused they told the chef not to start our food. So even by then they hadn't started cooking it. I would not recommend. A simple apology would have sufficed and we would have stayed. Wouldn't recommend."

"Very disappointed to be told the only table I could sit at was the one next to the door because I had a guide dog!!! It was 7 o’clock at night on a windy night and the door was propped open The restaurant was very quiet and there was plenty of room but the owner said they did not allow dogs. I explained she was a registered guide dog and she was braking the law but she said she didn’t care and I could not sit in the restaurant. I was left feeling very upset and embarrassed. Can’t believe in 2023 disabled people are treated like a second class citizen"

"The restaurant looked lovely. However, when we sat down, seats weren't comfortable, and some of it was ripped. The toilets were freezing cold and needed doing up, including the gents. Even my husband complained how cold the toilets were. The food was ok, but I had the lamb dish which wasn't cooked properly chewy. Chicken was too soft, not sure if it was under done, as we both had bad stomachs the next day. The service was excellent and friendly but they need to improve on their flavours, cook better and maybe get new furniture in, including sorting out the toilets. Shame only one curry house in the Town."

"Pretty poor tasteless food. Four meals arrived in under 10 minutes, quality of food was low. Straight from freezer to fryer mostly, we left well over half of it. Makes spoons food look good, but here costs 50% more. Very poor value. Biggest reason for...the low score was the high cost for such awful food. If you go to ‘Spoons you know what to expect. Also very stressful as staff running around dishing food out unbelievably quickly and shouting across to each other. Didn’t look understaffed but hard to tell post covid. We ate at glan yr afon 2 nights prior and it was same price but easily twice as good. Won’t be returning here."

"We called here for a cup of coffee and a bite to eat before heading back on a 3 hour trip home. We asked if our dog was welcome and she said yes we were the only ones there at this time. After sitting, the cafe started getting busier as well as the post office. The lady serving was on her own running both the cafe and post office. The only word to describe her is rude. She definitely needs to learn some manners and respect her customers she made us feel very uncomfortable and un welcome. One of our coffees got spilt and I waited in the post office for 10 minutes to ask for something to clean it up as there wasn’t even a napkin in sight! I tried to help clean it and got shouted at by the owner saying ‘only I can clean it up not you’ she then just said £4 for the coffees no please or thank you or any consideration for the fact we wanted to order food. We paid and left immediately without drinking the rest of our drinks. Just avoid! But if you do choose to go, you will probably be turned away very abruptly anyways as she doesn’t allow more than 2 customers!"
