"After many years, on recommendation of others, went to this restaurant to celebrate our wedding anniversary. Whilst the food was excellent, the service was atrocious and totally ruined what should have a lovely night out on a very special occasion. Booked for and seated...promptly. Orders for aperitifs taken and drinks brought promptly. Order for wine taken, bottle brought and opened. Then it all went downhill. Waited for over minutes for our meal order to be taken and that only happened because I signalled to the girl behind the bar that I was getting unhappy. First course then took about minutes to arrive. However our main course took until to arrive. I have never ever waited minutes for a main course to arrive. It would not have been so bad if the staff had shown any interest or we had been able to grab hold of one to ask what was going on, they just seemed to totally ignore us! As mentioned earlier, the food, when it did arrive, was very good, it would have been even better if the side order of vegetables my wife had ordered had also arrived. We did ask what had happened to them but when we were told they had been overlooked, decided to just make do and share mine. To add insult to injury, while we were waiting we noticed that other couples were eating dishes that were not on the menu we had been given. I later found out that we were supposed to have been given a specials menu but this had also been overlooked. At the end, the manager was very apologetic and gave a cursory discount however this was not the point. It was a special occasion at a not inexpensive restaurant I would have preferred to pay the full price and not had a ruined evening. Needless to say, we will not be returning."

"This shift began in 2021 and has been rolled out across the country. Many of the features that I enjoyed at Yo! Sushi have been removed, such as the good selection of sushi, nigiri, and sashimi. Core menu items have been altered or removed altogether, and the conveyor belt no longer offers tempting options. The unlimited water service has also been discontinued, making the dining experience feel less enjoyable. I found the new Yo! Sushi to be reminiscent of fast food chain Itsu, with a focus on speed and efficiency over quality and service. The sushi offerings lack the freshness and variety that I used to enjoy, and the prices are now comparable to what I can find at a supermarket sushi bar for a fraction of the cost. While the food itself was decent and the staff were friendly when I did interact with them, the overall experience fell short of what I had come to expect from Yo! Sushi. It appears that Yo! Sushi has made a deliberate shift towards offering more hot table options in an effort to increase profitability and streamline operations. However, for those like myself who enjoyed the original concept of Yo! Sushi, this change is disappointing. If I wanted hot table dining, I could easily visit a restaurant like Wagamama that offers a better selection at a lower price. Overall, Yo! Sushi will be missed in its original form. The changes that have been made do not enhance the dining experience and ultimately detract from what used to make Yo! Sushi special."

"I had no idea that Reading had a wine bar this fun, it’s a very well kept secret. From the outside it looks like a shop, but inside it’s all cosy tables surrounded by walls of wine. We chose to sit upstairs, which is quieter, out of the draught from the front door and felt a lot calmer. It’s candlelit, with piles of board games and a great atmosphere. The idea is that you have a card to put in ‘The Machine’ and then select your chosen wine and the size of the glass you’d like. You then present the card and pay at the end. This worked well for us; I wanted to try a mouthful of all the different wines (red, white, rose and an Orange Wine) and my companion wanted to try a large glass of every red available. We ended up getting through a couple of cards. Originally, we’d planned to have a couple of drinks and then move on to get dinner. But then we saw the menu and the chef. The menu was an array of exciting tapas, put together by the lovely Laura. I’d been to her previous business venture (Nomad Bakery) and it had been amazing, so we stuck in and ordered most of the menu. It didn’t disappoint; in fact it elevated the evening from fun to outstanding. I loved the Halloumi Burek, I was over the moon with the orange infused rice pudding. It was some of the best food I’ve had in Reading. Worth noting that they only do food on Friday, Saturday and Sunday evenings; I don’t think we would have enjoyed ourselves so much with just nibbles. I’m a bit puzzled as to why some reviewers have been asked to pay up front. We definitely weren’t, we just ran a tab with a card behind the bar for food and drink. I want to give this more than 5 stars. I want to go back again and again and eat and drink and laugh. You need to book because it gets busy, but that’s because it’s so good."
