"I 'm a fan of the 'Lounges ' and I 've used the Bolero several times before. The food is usually reasonable, if a bit expensive. I tend to stick to the breakfast/Brunch menu but today I decided to try something different and chose the Bang Bang Chicken. £13.75 This was a mistake, It was very disappointing. Basically this was a crispy chicken burger sliced into three pieces and served with Noodles and stir fried veg. It could have been tasty but it wasn 't, it didn 't taste of anything. There was some sort of sauce which made one piece of chicken very soggy and a hint of peanut but the combination of flavours just didn 't work and it tasted (I 'm sorry to say unpleasant. I didn 't recognise this as the same meal advertised on the Menu. There were a few red chilli slices but these carried no heat and this dish was more Pop Pop than Bang Bang. However, staff were friendly and efficient, venue was pleasant though the toy 's they supplied to keep the kids happy need to be replaced. Blunt Crayons that dont draw aren 't the best way of entertaining a child. In future I 'll stick to the breakfast menu."

"Haven’t been here for a while. Service was ok . One set of drinks arrived quite quickly and the other drinks ordered at the same time arrived after the food , I had to remind them about the rest of the drinks order . The breakfast itself I don’t think was worth the £12.50 price tag . One sausage, one bacon, one poached egg, about half a dessert spoonful of “homemade “ beans and the thinnest slice of black pudding I’ve ever seen (almost a shaving) . A few small mushrooms a slice of baguette bread and some cooked cherry tomatoes. Oh and a piece of over-fried hash brown. Although it was edible I found it very disappointing. Will I return. I doubt it."

"We were staying in the premier inn next door staying in the area for a family occasion. We booked a table well in advance for 11 people and offered the saver menu alongside the main menu. Everyone pre ordered there meals and emailed to pub weeks before. We were seated at 7 pm and around 45 mins later started receiving our meals after much confusion to what meals we were having even though it was all emailed to them. My steak was lovely and most of our meals were great. My father in law was very disappointed with his sea bass. Said that the veg etc that went with it was all dry and like it had been sat on the kitchen side for awhile and reheated . We went back to the pub on our second night. Asked for the saver menu that does state on there website runs from May Mon-Thurs each week to be told that it wasn’t available so was given the full price menu only. I ordered the Duo of chicken after being told my first choice of meal wasn’t available because they’d run out. It arrived. The chicken breast was so dry I couldn’t eat it. The chicken strips and rice were cold very disappointing. I’m afraid I couldn’t eat it. I did complain and rightfully so I wasn’t charged for it. We have family who live in the area and visit regularly. We certainly wouldn’t return to this pub."

"Went here this evening for my daughters 8th birthday meal out with my family which consisted of 4 adults, 2 children and 2 babies, one of which cried continously for the final hour! The children were quite noisy and made a fair mess of our table (which we did our best to clean before we left). However I cannot fault the staff here this evening at all, we were quite a noisy table with the children but the staff were great with them! There were two particular members of staff that went above and beyond to make sure we were looked after, I think one was a general manager (I didn't catch his name) and the other was called Luke whose people skills and attentiveness was impeccable! We had a little wait for food as we went at peak time and was informed that they're may be a 30 minute or so wait and Luke brought out a complimentary bowl of chips to keep the children from whinging! His manner and service was 2nd to none! I've been here many times as I live local and enjoy the food as its always tasty and value for money but I don't think I've ever been served by Luke before, I shall definitely remember him and look for him in future! Thanks for such a pleasant experience and making my daughters birthday meal a lovely occasion! xxx"

"I went to this restaurant with my girlfriend tonight and we had a pretty good meal. The food was quite good (although a bit pricey), but we enjoyed ourselves. During our meal, a Christmas parade passed by outside, which added to the evening and was heartwarming to see as they were collecting donations for the hospital. The children nearby were thrilled and ran outside to watch. The restaurant lacked a bit of atmosphere, but the parade improved our experience. However, I was disappointed when hospital staff came in asking for donations, and the restaurant seemed unwilling to help, despite being well-off. I am confused and upset by their lack of generosity. Perhaps the restaurant should consider giving back, especially after Covid and during the holiday season. I regret not spending my money elsewhere. Rating: Food 4/5, Service 1/5, Atmosphere 2/5."

"really helpful, friendly staff. great selection of food to fit any bag. had a brilliant college reunion weekend. simple location to find and find. great value and very accommodating. had a living room close to the bar where we could collect, and a separate dining room that we could use and decorate. more wonderful place I would recommend. only light nigger is that the phones need to be manned more frequently. I can't praise the place high enough! Finally, they have a group of 12 very rough, loud, 50 little women without hitting an eyelid! Many thanks to all the staff who give us a great 38-year-old meeting to remember!"

"Visited with my husband, looking forward to a Sunday roast. We had to wait a while to place our order, but once we did it came out in about five minutes. I ordered pork, well it came out and the piece of belly pork they served me was about half an inch wide and four inches long!! I did complain and the young guy who served us was so apologetic and took it away, I said that I would have the chicken instead. He brought back a large portion of chicken, but unfortunately it wasn’t cooked well, it was still pink. The veg was ok, super huge Yorkshire but roast potatoes weren’t very well cooked. The service was good, but the food was poor. When the bill came they said they had knocked off £10 for the mistake with the pork, which was very kind of them. However, we wouldn’t return for food in a hurry. In addition, the toilets were not clean and in desperate need of redecorating. On the plus side the garden is lovely."

"We hit the Wheatsheaf on a Saturday evening after we'd found other pubs shut their kitchens. It's an honest town pub, kept St Austell Tribute pale ale well, and had a straight-forward menu. It's not a foody pub, it's not a football-on-TVs- everywhere pub, it's...got a petanque patch, a giant chess set and a thoroughly relaxed attitude. I felt at home there, and not out of place, as one can find in some small places. We had filled jacket potatoes with our choice of fillings. They were freshly cooked and not re-heated from days ago, and on a hot evening away from home, the Wheatsheaf shone. Oh, it's not desperately modern or quaint or , it's an honest town pub. Recommended."

"Great food, good service. One of our party had food allergies and they double checked everything before it was served Staff were helpful and attentive My only negative was the incredibly loud music in the bar and eating area. "I and my friend dared this year for the first time for a date night after we made a list between us two of places we would like to eat this year. we had previously dimmed in the mezza in dursley, but...has heard of him, so we decided to try our local in downend as we have always heard / read good reviews and never managed to book a table. fortunately, this time we managed to book a table for a Friday night that was fantastic! when we arrived at the mezza, we were shown by a woman who asked us if we had booked a table and then moments later we were shown at our table in the corner. beautiful table away from other people we like. moments later a waiter came to the table to take our drinks orders and he left. I ordered a pepsi max and my other half a lemonade, but when it came to the table, I got a diet pepsi that I did not feel was a problem at all. we then got the same waiter back to take our food order. we ordered thatchers pork, calamari, cheesy chips, ribbed, beef die fry, scampi and sesam chicken. the plan was to put all the dishes before us, and we try every one a little bit. I would say about minutes later, our food came at the table together with a basket of roasted ciabatta for which was to die! all our foods came warm and presented amazing! the thatchers pork was my favorite dish of the evening, I found myself a dip my ciabatta in and wanted to find a recipe for her online. we have recommended the mezze to our friends and our family and will return to future. many thanks for a great evening!"

"I was hesitant to write a review, but I feel I must share my experience. Unfortunately, the food I received was cold, and the chicken was both dry and lacking in flavor. The sauce was excessively oily, reminiscent of unhealthy options associated with heart disease. The pakora resembled an over-fried chicken nugget, featuring a thick batter that barely concealed tiny pieces of dry chicken. Additionally, the Peshawari naan was bland and had a rubbery texture. In hindsight, I could have boiled some chicken at home, slapped it with a paper towel, and tossed it in coriander for a more enjoyable meal! And don't even get me started on the meager salad served alongside."

He assured me that all roast dinners were gluten-free. However, I have fallen very ill after eating there today and am extremely unhappy. "I enjoyed my meal here although my wife wasn't overly impressed. Firstly there is nothing wrong with the dining room, the service or the Covid measures. The meal started off well as there was a bit of extra effort with the chutney tray. We passed on starters and straight on to the mains. My Naga was great but unfortunately the wife's karai was a bit bitter and chicken was on the dry side. Interestingly whilst the dishes looked very similar the tastes were completely different. There was nothing wrong with our sides which were kept hot on a very nice table warmer. A couple of other disappointments in that they had no non alcoholic beer or any kulfi."

"If you are looking for an unspoiled riverside pub with a friendly atmosphere then search this one out on the next sunny weekend. I arrived last weekend to an amazing welcome, to be fair it was not my first visit but I only visit a few times a year. There is a good choice of beer and cider, including Thatchers Gold as a slushy. The pub food is big in quality and big in size, be warned because the staff may jokingly described the full rack of ribs as being like something out of the Flintsones but that is pretty accurate; even excessive eaters will not be disappointed (mere mortals and sensible eaters might want to share or order a half rack)."

"Last Sunday before Christmas, six of us went for the roast at a busy but not crowded restaurant. They offer a choice of roast meats in three different size portions: children's, medium, and large. We all opted for the large option and were served with a huge plate of food after a reasonable wait. I had the beef, which was tender and tasty with a generous amount. The plate also had a good variety of vegetables and two Yorkshire puddings. Although the food was tasty, we found the large portion size to be overwhelming and would recommend the medium size portion unless you are really hungry. Overall, we thought it was excellent value for money, serving good filling grub without any pretensions of being a gastronomic experience."

"Terrible food. Terrible service. Sheik kebab was so raw the inside was just raw slimey meat and raw marinade and the chicken tikka was also not cooked with some parts of it still raw. We didn't even try our curry as the meat didn't look right. I don't usually do bad reviews as everyone has a bad day but this is a food safety issue not to mention that when I called to let them know they didn't even have the decency to offer a refund or apologise.
