"Usually good food up until a month ago. Two repeated events of poor cold food. Several weeks ago freezing cold sub standard food, surf and turf, told usual chef not in, gave them the benefit of the doubt as we like the venue, paid bill in full, ignored it. Just revisited, ordered two Chateaubriand for 4 persons, they had none in stock, so then they offered fillet instead. Came freezing cold, sliced into cold strip steak for some crazy reason like you'd put it in a wrap or something, utter rubbish, it was like cold rump not fillet worth £110. Asked to speak to owner or get owner to call me. Kirsty waitress really rude, refused to take number and denied the food was cold, apparently mediocre cold food is okay. Really rude, substandard food. This place has gone down hill, certainly the food and staff don't match the nice venue. If you like substandard food and rude staff look no further! Well done Kirsty, great service. Walked out, didn't eat it. Seriously, credit where it's due, used to be good food decent atmosphere, now though, two bad meals and now rude staff. What a shame. Owner: Kirsty refused to take my number, you interested in responding or talking to me? I like your venue but you are taking a bad turn, two bad meals and rude staff refusing to test food for themselves or touch the food for temperature, and denying there was cold food, seriously? Chef refused to accept it was cold and waitress passing on equally rude behavioural approach. Accept your food has gone mediocre pub at best, certainly not restaurant standard, get a new chef and some nice polite staff with decent customer service. Only then will we return for food. I fear I waste my breath here?"

"The Vine is a lovely little pub/restaurant with a cosy, rustic feel décor to match. First thing I noticed at how busy the pub was and they seemed shorted staff which didn’t really impress me. The initial wait for drinks was quite long and for subsequent drinks orders as the staff weren’t particularly attentive and didn’t seem to care, possibly due to the busyness of the restaurant. Once seated, our waiter came over to take our drinks order. The drinks were on our table shortly after. This was great until we noticed the change in service once other members of our party had arrived. We had to call a member of staff over to allow us to order more drinks. The wait for food was over 30 minutes, however it was presently lovely with the rustic theme running through into the meals and the dining set. This was a beautiful touch. The lasagne was homely and filling, served piping hot and full of flavour. I wouldn’t say it was any different to something which is cooked at home by myself, however it was delicious non the less. The garlic bread which was served with this dish however was quite disappointing – as it very doughy and didn’t have much taste. I would have preferred traditional crunchy garlic bread. My friend ordered the prime beef burger with fries and it was delicious; The fries were perfectly cooked and the burger was also exquisite; Especially the burger relish sauce which quite reminded me of McDonald’s big mac sauce which everyone knows is good! The main meal certainly filled the gap and the portion was a good size for the price and the flavour as aforementioned was brilliant. We also ordered a pizza and I noticed other diners were given pizza cutters and I only had my fork and knife to cut my pizza, which was a struggle at times. The pizza was cooked to perfection, even though we did ask for extra cheese it was a standard measure of toppings. . You could tell the pizza was freshly cooked. The toilets were clean, compact, and meeting the basic needs. Plates and empty drinks were cleared so the table remained without unnecessary empties throughout the evening which was very good service, however when asking for the bill it appears neither the waitress nor management could understand the different between a gift card and voucher code. This made dealing with the bill quite awkward and would be something I recommend training on. The food was great! However the service didn’t quite match that quality of the food, I would still recommend however as I’m sure it was a one off. Overall it was a 7/10"

"I haven’t been to the crooked house since I was a teen which is quite some years ago , me and my partner planned to go today and booked to eat in the restaurant for 3:30pm I booked the table yesterday morning When we arrived at 3:15pm we walked into the restaurant the young girl said have you booked I said yes and gave my name , she looked in the book and said oh I can accommodate you , sit there or there , I said can we sit there in the comfy seats , she said no as iv got other people coming in , there was only two other tables occupied and they closed at 5pm so we were led to a table by the door which was half in the dark area , she then said I can’t give you menus yet as you are early ! So she left us 15 minutes whilst she went to chat to a younger girl behind the bar area . I had noticed on the website they done faggots mash and peas for £9.95, so we eventually ordered two soda waters and two faggots and mash meals . It took about 30 minutes to come and no other guests did ever arrive after us to sit in the other comfy seats so she told a bit of a lie there , well when the faggots come to say it was a small portion is an understatement and was in two tiny bowls . I could have ate mine twice , i went up to pay the bill and she said that’s £12.95 each for the faggots and mash and iv charged you both for soda wAters , so the bill came to just shy of £30 for two small bowls of faggots and mash and two waters , I said no it’s £9:95 as stated on your website site , she replied abruptly it went up today to £12.95 each I said that’s a £3 increase and there was not enough there for a child . She said I only work here I don’t make the prices and we need to tidy up as shutting soon , I reluctantly paid but said I won’t be eating here again to which she replied ‘OK !! Her customer skills were none existent and she had an abrupt couldn’t care less attitude and the food portions are expensive and tiny . 35 years since I last visited the crooked house and I won’t be rushing back soon !! The prices on the menu website is not what you pay . !"
