"We chose The Merrie Lion because of it being quite close to the wedding venue Warwick House at Southam where our nephew was getting married. The distance was approximately 7 miles. Our room No.2) was on the ground floor of the purpose built building which has 6 bedrooms. The building is a very short walk across the spacious car park from the pub. The room was very spacious with a LARGE double bed. Plenty of wardrobe and drawer space . An excellent walk in shower and tea and coffee making facilities. We ate in the pub restaurant on Monday evening 31st July),along with 12 others that would be attending the wedding, and found the food to be of very good quality and plenty on the well presented plates.I had the starter of Salmon fishcake and a main of Cajun chicken skewered kebab. Both very tasty. My wife had Pate' to start and Chefs burger with bacon and cheese. Also very tasty. All of the meals were served promptly by very friendly polite staff. Our full English LARGE breakfast the next morning Which is pre-bookable by guests) was equally as tasty. And very filling to set you up for the start of the day. The sausages are supplied by a local butcher and are well worth trying. Plenty of tea and coffee and toast is also available when requested. The second morning 2nd August) I had requested scrambled eggs on toast with smoked salmon, which was very filling with plenty of salmon. All in all we would not hesitate to recommend The Merrie Lion to anyone for either a stay or to eat in the pub. Daphne the landlady is probably very proud of her pub, accommodation and staff. And so she should be"

"After booking for my birthday with friends I was booked in on the telephone with a very friendly man that gave me a great deal of hope and looking forward to my evening. On arrival we were greeted by the two staff on that night neither said hello or smiled or warm welcome he just grabbed menus and took us to the table assuming that it was my booking. After very close to 15 minutes no one has been up and asked us if we would like a drink. When the drink order had been taken a bottle of white wine, there was no thank you very much be back in a moment or a smile he just walked away not a word spoken. When we were ready to order we waited another 10 minutes and we had to call one of them over. Again the order was taken no thank you no smile and just walked away. At this point I was embarrassed with my friends that I'd gone to somewhere where we didn't seem to be appreciated or welcomed. The starters were lovely we all enjoyed those very much. The main courses came a bit after the bowls which were stone cold, and asked the lsd if we could have hot bowls he just sniggered and walked away.. When the food arrived it was all in cold dishes with no heaters on the table and so after about a quarter of the food was eaten it was cold and I do not like cold food that is supposed to be hot. Neither staff asked if everything was alright. I think this sort of service is totally unacceptable. We asked for the bill and that came and when we made payment, again there was not a thank you there was not a murmur of a word or smile from either of them or goodnight where left. This what's the first experience for all of us to Sans and to be honest I could not recommend it to anybody with the service we had and unfriendly staff that aren't bothered if you there."

"Quite expensive curry. None of the currys come with rice or naan that's extra garlic naan was £3.95 I had a lamb jalfrezi £10.95. No complentary poppadoms either they are £1.15 each they aren't even priced on the menu. Naan bread was great. Jalfrezi was nice. But not that spicy for me. The menu is very different. Don't recognise most of the curry names, I.e. no vindaloo, aloo, madras or kormas on there but some other currys never heard of with very little description to what they were I.e. chicken cooked in spices? I asked the waiter what a lamb handy curry was and just told it comes in a pot, it actually arrives in saucepan. We were large group of 2 tables of people around 19 people. When it came to pay the bill the waiter at our table refused to let us pay individually for our meals and said it would take too long so he took one payment from one person then said I'm splitting the rest equally amongst 8 people and you can sort it out. We were not happy but he didn't want to budge on this telling us its our own fault for not telling him we wanted to pay individually when we placed the order. The waiter on our second table was very reasonable and said I will process your bills separately when he had finished processing the payments individually from our second table.
