"I visited this restaurant for the first time with a friend, and I can guarantee it won't be my last! The food was incredible, and the service was impeccable. It was a wonderful experience from start to finish. You’d be hard-pressed to find food that’s both delicious and beautifully presented anywhere else. "Ive been coming here for years, ive just been for lunch and I think I need a lie down. The dips are huge! I dont know how the owner makes any money, the filling is always bursting out the sides. "We were here on Saturday, really feel the 1 star review on the same night is unjustified. The blonde girl was in training and very nervous, but equally very pleasant. The rest of the staff, friendly and knowledgable. The food was lovely, 2 starters, 2 mains, 1 side and 4 drinks for £50, you can’t complain for that price! The only thing missing was the harbour view of Turkey rather than the streets of Sunderland! But they had the carpets on the wall so it felt the part"

"We usually stay I guest house on street and Coles is our go to place for at least two rounds coffee and delicious toasted sandwich or treat .we are finally back after a year of virus restrictions.unfortunatly no b&b as yet so on caravan park in Hartlepool travelled to Sunderland went on seafront to cold to sit and eat outside at seaburn so came to Coles .knew as is current take away only.only filled brioche on offer .nice had them outside didn't order coffee don't like takeaway coffee in hand and no toilets . was looking forward to visiting with friends when we bring them to our favourite b& b in may when open again .(they are selling so last visit there. choice service and quality is the experience that was Coles £20 was the price of our usual coffee as we were tempted, to stay and have another and a treat our will power was nil .it was to my horror to find Coles is not re opening as before after lockdown it is staying as a take out.it is another thing gone to the dust in roker.so sad .I appreciate they can make more money by a take away only but not an experience to be enjoyed on holiday.our friends will be disappointed as we have promised them a weekend of quality.the food was great as always for a takeout bite .last trip in may I think it will be a upmarket American chain duplicate .good for workers lunch buy not a pleasure to savour in nice surroundings the atmosphere service and food Was a pleasure to look forward to the area is losing it's best attractions good accomodation and eateries .good luck guys you will be busy and fast turn over ,but after lockdown we wanted a return to normal .we will miss travelling away for a break lost accommodation and eatery in one swoop."

"Well I will start with the good points friendly staff and reasonable priced drinks. That’s where it ends we have visited a couple of times to see if our first visit was a one off bad experience. Unfortunately this was not the case people openly vaping in the bar each time we visited with the staff turning a blind eye. On one visit to the gents a couple of young men openly waiting to get into the cubicle and audible snorting and then leaving a couple of seconds later. The place appears to be quite so I can see why the management don’t want to confront these people and possibly lose the trade whoever it’s counter productive as decent people will not want to visit with this sort of thing going on. Green king needs to get a grip as this establishment is supposed to be family friendly I for one wouldn’t take children there. They need to be reported to the local authority as I’m sure they will be breaking the terms of the license."

"After being residents in the area for over two years, we finally decided to give The Star of Siam at The Highfield Hotel in East Rainton a try. We booked a table online and were seated at a charming spot near the kitchen entrance, which allowed us to observe and savor all the delectable Thai dishes being prepared. The service was top-notch and the food was simply divine. We weren't rushed to finish our meal, allowing us to unwind and converse after dining. The prices were quite reasonable and there is a lovely bar next door where you can enjoy drinks before or after your meal. They also provide takeout options. We will definitely be visiting again in the future."

"We went to this restaurant for a birthday lunch and decided to order from the happy hour lunch menu. For starters, we had the pate with salad, which was very tasty. The salad dressing was delicious and everything tasted freshly made. For the main course, we chose the chorizo chicken pasta, which had plenty of chicken chunks mixed in with the pasta. The sauce was creamy and had a nice kick of spice. All of the dishes were freshly made and the service was excellent. We will definitely be coming back to try the two steaks for £35 deal, as the couple at the table next to us had it and it looked amazing."

We ordered a pasta dish that was advertised to have "steak strips," but when it arrived, it contained only about five tiny cubes of steak. To make matters worse, they also forgot one of our portions of chips. Every other experience we've had has been great, but tonight was not acceptable. Service was delivery."

The menu was limited and the service was mediocre, with long waits between ordering and receiving food. The duck dish looked beautiful but was dry and had an odd taste. The roast potato and sausage roll were also disappointing, tasting as if they had been left under a heat lamp for too long. However, the starters of squid and pigs in blankets were superb. Overall, the food did not live up to the price and potential of the restaurant."

"My family of six, including two children, went to this restaurant to celebrate my mother's birthday. The service provided by the waiter was excellent, the food arrived quickly and was delicious. We are definitely planning on returning. Thank you for a wonderful evening and for making my mother feel special. The restaurant is very kid-friendly, with the waiter going above and beyond to entertain the children. Overall, we give the food a rating of 4, the service a rating of 5, and the atmosphere a rating of 5. Recommended dishes include the carbonara. "After seeing the amazing pictures on facebook we decided to give this place a chance. Upon walking in we were hit in the face by the most powerful wet dog smell, I looked at the tired people sitting at the bar and thought seating must be upstairs or another part of the building we were taken around the corner where there are aprox 8 tables and were given menus covered in dried food. We decided to stick it out and ordered two mains from the menu thinking it would be worth it if the food was nice. We were the second customers in the restaurant area. the first couple were served their food yet after sitting for an hour still no food was brought out to us. A family who arrived a good 45 minutes after us were served their starters and i could see a few dishes here and there beings served with no apparent system in place. Another couple who had been there almost as long as us got up and left, thats when we also realised it was time to cut our losses and go. I asked the waitress if we could pay for the two cokes we ordered and at that point there was still no suggestion that the food was almost ready so we left. Overall thoughts, Building is VERY tired like a working mans club, very understaffed, dirty floor, dirty menus, terrible customer service, a very poor mumbled apology as we left about a kitchen staff not turning up to work."

"I just wish we had checked the reviews which i normally do! before paying a silly amount of money for what was perhaps one of the worst takeaways I have ever had. The only reason it is getting 2 stars is because it filled a hole, but it certainly did not take you back to Thailand like other takeways do with their fresh bold flavours. This stuff was clearly microwaved rubbish, the website is misleading as it claims to be freshly cooked traditional Thai, but none of the 'flavours ' i have just eaten were anything close to Thai : money wasted : I like others wont be back I do wish them the best of luck though, as it does seem as though once upon a time this place was decent.."

"Booked in for Saturday night and from start to finish we had an amazing night out, seated straight away, the waitress was straight over to get drinks orders and then menu followed (we couldn't decide what to have) so waitress gave some recommendations and came back a few minutes later and took our order. We were not disappointed!! The food was fresh and hot and I asked for a couple of slices of bread for the sauce from the homemade lasagne. Nothing was too much trouble. We waited a little while to order dessert (ice cream) which was gorgeous and not to filling. The restaurant was very busy but we weren't made to feel rushed at all and sat for a little while with another round of drinks and got the bill. Very reasonable prices. Would recommend booking and it's great to see a much loved restaurant busy again. Staff are so friendly, attentive and polite, nothing was too much trouble. Can't wait to visit again and also loving the fresh new look with the decor. We will be back. "My daughter and her husband took me to a local restaurant for a birthday lunch. What a lovely experience first of all the music is fantastic mainly 60s and Motown I thought I'd died and gone to heaven. If I thought the music was good,...the food was great. Beautifully cooked and served, all fresh ingredients and all home made. I had their garlic and pesto mushrooms to start which were gorgeous, generous portion in a beautiful home made sauce. For my main I had a home made burger in a brioche bun with skinny fries although chips was an alternative option or a salad. The burger was great and the fries perfectly cooked hot, golden and crisp. We all enjoyed every bite and too full for dessert. Can't wait to return and try a different meal. Downstairs there was a wonderful selection of cakes so you obviously don't have to have a meal but treat yourself to cake and coffee. Staff were lovely perfectly attentive but not intrusive. A little gem in the beautiful setting of Washington Village. Highly recommend it."

"I chose Sambucas to celebrate my granddaughter's 3rd birthday. There were seven of us, and we ordered four different appetizers and seven distinct main courses. All the starters arrived at the same time, and they were delicious, served piping hot, and in generous portions. The main courses were just as impressive. The homemade chips and seasonal vegetables were also tasty, hot, and plentiful. I highly recommend this restaurant! Also, keep in mind that there are additional daily starters and main courses that aren’t listed on the online menu, so there’s truly something for everyone."

"absolutely loved our yings kidnapping where we ordered the veg tempura, tofu jungle curry, tofu masaman curry, jasmin rice and homemade chips. the veg tempura was delicious with a beautiful teig, while the masaman curry was aromatic, rich and extremely tasteful. the jungle curry is not for the weak heart; personally I loved the spicy and deep of taste. both dishes also had a large selection of fresh vegetables and juicy tofu. the homemade chips were also a tasty bite. I can't wait to visit again."

"2nd visit for Sunday lunch and we were not disappointed. Starters were soup, haggis bon bons and vegetarian starter, mains were pork, sharing platter and chicken burger. All the food was piping hot and everyone enjoyed their meals. Lots of veg with the mains, carrots, parsnips, cabbage, mash, roast potatoes. All were lovely. Everyone in our party of 5 and baby enjoyed their meals. Lovely yorkshire puddings too. Service was prompt and really good. Well done lovely meal, we will be back."

"Delicious food, well priced, in a nice little cafe. My other half went for the Hungry Veggie breakfast and I had the vegan sausage and roasted veg ciabatta with sweet onion marmalade. I followed it up with a lovely cupcake and then bought some cakes to take away for later! Extensive drinks menu and plenty of vegan milks on offer!"
