"We usually stay I guest house on street and Coles is our go to place for at least two rounds coffee and delicious toasted sandwich or treat .we are finally back after a year of virus restrictions.unfortunatly no b&b as yet so on caravan park in Hartlepool travelled to Sunderland went on seafront to cold to sit and eat outside at seaburn so came to Coles .knew as is current take away only.only filled brioche on offer .nice had them outside didn't order coffee don't like takeaway coffee in hand and no toilets . was looking forward to visiting with friends when we bring them to our favourite b& b in may when open again .(they are selling so last visit there. choice service and quality is the experience that was Coles £20 was the price of our usual coffee as we were tempted, to stay and have another and a treat our will power was nil .it was to my horror to find Coles is not re opening as before after lockdown it is staying as a take out.it is another thing gone to the dust in roker.so sad .I appreciate they can make more money by a take away only but not an experience to be enjoyed on holiday.our friends will be disappointed as we have promised them a weekend of quality.the food was great as always for a takeout bite .last trip in may I think it will be a upmarket American chain duplicate .good for workers lunch buy not a pleasure to savour in nice surroundings the atmosphere service and food Was a pleasure to look forward to the area is losing it's best attractions good accomodation and eateries .good luck guys you will be busy and fast turn over ,but after lockdown we wanted a return to normal .we will miss travelling away for a break lost accommodation and eatery in one swoop."

"Recommended to come here and eat before attending a concert. Found a table and sat down and after 10mins a waitress came and took our order which was our starters and mains. Starter arrived in good time we had the fireman's sharing board which was really nice and big enough for four people to share and our 2 for 1 cocktails also arrived in good time and were nice. Then after that it went downhill we waited over an hour after we had finished our starter for our mains I asked a waitress to see where our meals were when clearly we knew we had been forgotten about she never came back with an answer so with my patience wearing thin I asked a gentleman with a clip board who was directing people to tables . He said he would look into it and came over after about 5 mins to apologise it was their mistake and our order had been missed and offered us a free drink. My friend and I asked for a vodka and lemonade and another a Disarano and coke and a bottle of water which arrived within 6 minutes. Our vodka and lemonades had never seen vodka you couldn't taste it at all but my friend said he could taste his Disarano. We waited another 10 minutes and our mains arrived three of us had posh finger sandwiches and the other had a steak sandwich which she left as it was dripping in fat and the roll was barely baked. Our posh fish finger sandwiches were also dripping in fat with no taste we asked for extra tartar sauce to be told by a different waitress that its in the sandwich so in other words your not getting anymore. There was barely any in. We all ate them as we were hungry but they were poor. We asked for the bill and paid and went elsewhere for a cuppa. We know it was busy with being a pink concert on at the stadium of light I personally don't think there was enough staff on to cope with the volume of people so our first visit put us off from ever returning."

"We came here on a friends recommendation, who’s usually spot on! Sadly, I don’t know if we caught them on a bad day or what but I was not impressed. My son ordered a Burger which came with chips onion rings. The battered onion rings were so greasy I had to squash them on my paper napkins to try and reduce the amount of oil in them and even then they were just about palatable as all you could really taste was the oil . I had just wanted a dessert . The cakes looked good but sadly, the one I chose must have been the very near end/ last remaining slices of that cake, as it was dry and it didn’t taste fresh at all and one thing I do know about is cakes ! If someone had asked us during the meal how it was I would have mentioned this and I’d sat with only a half eaten cake in front of me for some time ! My son who loves cakes too tried to eat the other half but even he gave up in the end. A waitress came after our meal was obviously finished and asked if it was okay , to which I hesitated , as I didn’t want to spoil the day out with my son and I’m also not one for complaining or causing a problem. The waiter that came to take the card payment was lovely and I felt able to tell him that I was disappointed with the cake, and that it hadn’t tasted fresh at all, as I would hate anyone else to be disappointed with it, especially at £4.65 a slice . He did apologise for this. Two drinks , one burger n chips and one dessert £27.20 ."
