"Good. . . . . Everything may seem a bit petty, but when you pay the prices here, you would expect to be treated with courtesy and not discussed!I made my request and I appreciate that I was busy and noisy. My food order came incomplete. My order in the box started with fries with cheese, baguette cheese and drinks for me and 3 children. I wasn't too impressed by the cheese baguette. If you like chunks of thick cheese this is your place! Also, the girl who served never mentioned that she had only sown and never thought of checking any allergies! So the guy who made the hot drinks was very kind and polite, and the girl who served the baguette was lovely. The kids started asking where the fries were. So I asked the girl and she was very polite and I went to check. The girl who served me wine and. I must say not very complacent. I didn't apologize, I asked him how much he got me, he just said he hadn't withdrawn and he could get me and he had to pay in the box. It was rough, rude. . . . bad customer service I asked to be removed, as we would be late to meet friends, again, no apology. She offered the manager and I said no, we'll just go. When we were leaving, after everyone had a confab behind the drinks, she approached me. Then I started saying. . . ``I appreciate it being busy and noisy, but I said my full order that was lost part of and I was not impressed by the way he treated it quite rudely. To the manager's answer with attitude like the waitress, no, you didn't! Excuse me, I know what I ordered, I was thinking, so I politely said I had asked, but she shouldn't have listened to me. No, you didn't, no, you didn't, you argued with me. All I needed was. 'I'm sorry for the confusion, I'm sure he didn't want to, as you say he's busy, noisy, easy to do. No apology for the waitress attitude either. We will remove the cheese price from your fries pear for the size of the portions! Nothing. I said I worked in retail and their customer service is shocking. I won't recommend it. However, I must say that the 2-service staff I had experience was charming. It is surprising that if she is the manager, she has terrible customer service skills, even if it is a busy time of the year."

"We celebrate our wedding anniversary and stay at beautiful Bovey castle. I am impressed since the first time we drove to the entrance. Beautiful entrance in the middle of gold course. We originally looking for nice restaurant to celebrate our anniversary and stay at...the hotel and came across this restaurant. We hope could get a table on the night but the restaurant was fully booked. So we had dinner at the other restaurant and book our dinner for the following night. The dinner was impressive. Lots of food and very good services. The food presentation was interesting. I always love to see the food presentation as its one of my main task to check whenever I arrange wedding for my clients. Food presentation is a must and the taste as well. And the way the serve the food will also a matter to make us to feel more excited. The price wepaid for dinner are worth to spend. We’ve got a lot of food. From selection canapes, bread, sorbet and the courses meal. I suggest you to skip lunch or just have brunch, if you would like to have dinner here. You will not regret it. Restaurant staff also very professional. I enjoy fine dinning Restaurant also look good. We are very satisfied. I can imagine how guests enjoy their meal for wedding reception at this restaurant. It might be a bit slow from the kitchen, but I guess it must be because the cheff try to present the food as best as they could. For some people who looking for fast service, then you might be ready to be patient, otherwise you can go to fast food cafe . But for me who looking for good food and enjoy every moment with my husband, then little wait wouldn’t be a problem. I agree that the restaurant only accept limited booking to maintain the services. Good reataurant will not just accept walk-in guests. And good guests must know that good restaurant will work based on reservation and walk-in guests will based on availability. We are soo lucky as when we stay there, so we can get priority to book the table. The weather is nice. It allow us to explore the castle before we had dinner. Thank you for making our anniversary memorable. We definitely will come back."

"My initial impression was good. We checked in to the room without fuss. The person at the bar helped us with this and was very efficient and friendly. She remembered me making the booking by phone. The room was actually quite pleasant and so for the initial check in and the room, and a decent beer by the river this place recovered a star from all the others that it lost from this point on. We had booked a table for dinner when we booked the room. It was Sunday and the restaurant only had pizza on (but claimed GF was available for my wife). Then when we went in to eat, we were told we didn 't have a booking and they had insufficient pizza bases. So we were directed around to one of the other places around the corner to eat. The Greene King is a dangerous walk on the side of the road and is pretty limited on options, especially after a busy Sunday. But we ate. After walking back to the Abbey Inn, we went to go in the door by the road, which our key was supposed to open. Turned the key and it broke off in the lock. No, I didn 't force it, it just failed like a really cheap piece of metal. On going in, a little peaved, the woman behind the bar who couldn 't seat us for our meal was really incredibly rude about the key and kept repeating they 'll charge you for it , not what I expected. Maybe an apology for my inconvenience was what I was hoping for. So once she let us into our room we stayed in until breakfast. We wedged a magazine in the door to go down to breakfast, as we had no key and didn 't dare bother them to unlock the door again. At breakfast we asked for the halloumi veggie breakfast. They haven 't delivered the halloumi , we were told. Ok, do it without. It made for a basic breakfast with a single slice of toast, a cooked tomato, some beans and an egg. When we 'd packed and came down to check out, I commented that we didn 't have a key to return. I was told I take it you are still refusing to pay for the key and lock . My response was I am disappointed I have to refuse to pay. I have an expectation to turn a key and have it unlock the door, not break off in my hand . The exchange continued along the same lines at which point I left. Beware if you stay here that the management appears to expect you to pay for any issues related to failures of their property, cheap fittings or potential lack of maintenance. Your dining reservations may disappear. And if something does go wrong then expect aggressiveness rather than customer service. If the management chooses to respond to this message I 'm sure you 'll hear that everything was my fault. From which, reader, you are welcome to judge for yourself whether to visit."

"We often come here for Sunday carvery which is very good so thought we would try an evening meal for my Mum's birthday. I am afraid the overall service let down the whole experience. When we arrived, instead of being taken to our table by the waitress, she just pointed and said you are at that table over there. After being to a busy bar area to get our drinks we found out that the 2 waitress standing around did not take orders so we had to go back to the busy bar again and wait to give our food orders. When the food came it was very good, especially my seafood platter. Everyone thought the food was good except for my Mum who had gone for one of the specials. It was so poor especially for being a special. She had one tiny piece of fish with no sauce, 4-5 very small new potato's, a few carrots and a few bits of broccoli. All the veg was hard and there was not enough to satisfy even a person with the smallest appetite. We told the waitress about the hard veg but she just said oh right and there was no apology. When we spoke to the chap at the bar and said why don't the waitress take the orders he said he liked people to come to the bar so the staff could meet them. We all felt this was a lame reason and probably did not trust the teenage waitresses to take the orders. It is a real shame as the place is lovely and the food generally is pretty good but is missing a professional touch. We said we would not return for an evening meal but just stick to the Sunday Carvery."
