"We booked as a family of five for Sunday lunch as a treat for my elderly father in law. Wasn't particularly busy and we had booked in advance. Firstly, our names were't reserved and we were given a table at the front of house where it was noisy. I asked to be moved and the waiting staff moved us to the back of restaurant. Even better as quieter. But then, we were left! Ignored by the waiting staff and we constantly had to ask to be served. And we are a patient, accepting and non complaining family! The food was very basic and my vegetarian nut roast tasted like it was microwaved. It tasted more like a fried nut burger. The portions for the beef and vegetables were reasonable. We waited so long for the plates to be taken away we eventually looked for a waiting staff and called them over. Again, more waiting (very patiently) for the dessert menu and empty drinks glasses left on the table. It was dreadful. The waiting staff kept looking over and appeared to want to talk to each other/ ignore us. I could understand if the place was busy but it wasn't. I was disappointed as this could be a wonderful place. The restaurant area is comfortable and surroundings are very pleasant. Whilst the food is basic, it could be a great place for family Sunday lunch. I would be very reluctant to visit again with family or friends. The waiting staff really let us down on this visit sadly. There are so many other places in the Vale that offer better service than the Blacksmiths Arms."
