"I went to see a show at a nearby theatre, and called in for a quick pint whilst I waited for a taxi home. The pub was fairly busy, but there were three girls serving behind the bar. I waited and waited, and it was quite obvious that people were pushing in front of me, but the staff seemed clueless as to who they should serve next. At one point, one of the girls shouted “is anyone waiting” and I shouted “ yes please” and then she looked at me, and then served someone else who had just arrived at the bar! Finally a girl was heading towards me, and said “who’s next” just as another couple arrived at the bar. The couple went to place their order and that’s when I jumped in and said hold on, I’ve been waiting ages. The couple and the barmaid just stared at me as if I had arrived from another planet. I was then tersely asked what I wanted, and then huffily served my drink without a smile or a thank you. I was one of the older people in the bar, and I can only assume that the staff were giving their mates priority, but I found the whole experience very humiliating, and very disappointing. Out of the three girls, only one seemed to know how to smile. The other two were robotic, and clearly not happy in their job. There was also a total lack of anyone in charge, which maybe explains the shoddy service. I have been using this pub for many years with my family for drinks and food, but based on this experience, I won’t be returning any time soon."

"I have opened this coffee shop since they and literally gave them thousands of pfund hard earned money to support them in their venture. Today I have admitted to get a hot drink on the way to home from work. I left. I have a girl sitting outside and having a faggot. another girl took my order, then went outside to say the barista (the smoker was her) that it wanted a customer a coffee. the barista has messed up like I did in a minute. remember that I went past the way and at this time of the day would only come for a drink. Before she poured the drink, I asked her to make him hot. she said: "f they want it to be hot that they need to ask before the milk is damped, while beside a coffee machine with a milk steamer standing on it that can be used to increase the temperature of the milk in seconds, then she added it should not check hot enough anyway whether it was after the release of my request because it could not be disturbed to hear seconds more milk. Of course, the coffee was a bit more than tepid, but I couldn't be prevented from bringing them out more than I already had. the price has been increased to I knew this because a young boy had tried to advertise me this price a few days earlier despite the price on the board, as I told him at this opportunity that they can not calculate people a different price than the one that is advertised so this place is not only the most expensive place that I can offer for a coffee already being trained to have a new ones poorly trained before. To be less prosperous, I would have to say that the attitude of this girl is absolutely stinking. Of course, they can poke their coffee, where the sun doesn't shine and pick up from another use of me. absolutely shameful and shameful to see what is a really good place earlier, which gurgle the pan down, giving an apt expression, which usually disappears when they rinse a toilet."

"The Rose and Crown in Chorleywood (note the location on the common, not the pub of the same name on the Harefield side of Rickmansworth) has long been known for excellent food, a good selection of beer, and the hospitality of the landlord and landlady. After lockdown it opened again for drinks, operating under careful but pragmatic restrictions. The restaurant at the back of the pub has been converted into a drinks area (as it used to be many years ago). Food has not been available until last week and the return is a triumph. Gone are the excellent steaks, pies, fish etc. to be replaced by a thoughtful tapas menu. We have eaten there twice since the resumption, both occasions proving excellent. Highlights included salmon ceviche (very fresh and tangy), sweet and sour spare ribs, a delightful lamb rump with a garlic dipping sauce, and octopus. Also added to the full menu is the traditional backed camembert (with the addition of roast garlic and an onion chutney, sweet potatoes fries, and pork belly. All the dishes are tasty, filling and innovative. There is also a small selection of afters, but so far I have not ventured there. We were told that the sticky toffee pudding is superb. Another advantage is that the food is a good excuse to explore Jeff’s wine list. We had an excellent Portuguese red blend. Capacity is down during the Covid-madness, so booking as advised. This will become more of an issue as word of the food gets out and the weather turns less favourable (there is some outdoor seating). One traditional touch is that punters are trusted to add a tip as they see fit, not be subjected to the ‘discretionary but dare to complain’ service charge seen in other local establishments (see my other recent review). The staff are diligent in cleaning the tables between guests and all the regulations seem to be followed. Great to have this favourite back."
