"So, visited the afternoon boot sale at the Hop Farm and decided to grab something to eat. The place was light and airy, the staff friendly and attentive. A varied menu and something for every taste. As it was getting on, we decided to do a starter and each and a main between us. My wife went for a goats cheese tart to start and I went for nduja sausage doughballs. Both were disastrous the goats cheese tart was cold, greasy and topped with something that may have been goats cheese in the dim and distant past it would take a forensic scientist to establish this though. The doughballs were warm, tasteless and may once have been in the same country as a nduja sausage...or maybe not. Bland and fairly bought cheaply from a supermarket. So, let 's move on to the main course. A calzone pizza arrives, plump and warm. Thank goodness that they 've managed to redeem themselves we think......nope, an absolute car crash of a calzone. All dough. 2 small pieces of chicken both in my half. A few slivers of cheap packet ham and a couple of spinach leaves and lots of air. Slimy, inedible and a **** take to be honest. Absolutely no redeeming features to this 'meal, can 't remember the last time we both left a restaurant hungry. Interestingly, not one member of staff asked how the meal was....maybe the truth hurts? Over priced, poorly 'cooked ' and presented, cheap supermarket starters.....avoid at all costs."

"This place is a bit of an enigma! The location is beautiful with High Rocks behind it and the steam railway running at the bottom of the garden. Indeed the gardens themselves are beautiful. That's about where it stops. We went there for a drink...and bar snacks with the intention of watching the trains on the railway gala day. Arrived abut quite expecting the place to be busy as I thought other people might have the same idea. Place was deserted! Ordered drinks and sat in garden. Started to rain so moved inside and decided to order bar snacks. Very limited and not particularly appealing menu. Basically baguettes or sandwiches. Suppose they want to force you into their restaurant! Ordered sandwiches which when arrived were wrapped in cling film and in a paper bag. Had obviously been pre-prepared and stored in a fridge as they were ice cold. Served wrapped in cling film no garnish. To be fair the sandwiches were well filled but the presentation left much to be desired. Most of the staff appear to be Eastern European. I don't have a problem with that but they do need to be able to communicate in English. Toilet facilities are totally inadequate. Heaven knows what it's like when the place is busy (is it ever busy It is a real shame because with a little flair and creativity it could be made a beautiful venue. In common with the other people who have left less than satisfactory reviews about this place it seems to suffer from greedy owners."

"After an evening flight into Gatwick and the drive to Pembury, it was just after 8.30pm, when we finally got to go to Mallows for our evening meal. There was quite a lengthy wait at the waiter station/front desk as the staff tried to rectify...some problem with a group of men who had just dined. Never mind, these things happen, however the 2 staff members were both quite engrossed in the problem and seemed unaware that we were waiting for a table. Finally we were seated and left with menus to choose our meals. After calling a passing staff member to order a drink (we had not had any lunch or anything to drink since 11.30am that morning) and no-one seemed to come near us, we eventually got to quench our thirst. The next problem came when we placed our order for dinner. My husband had seen the Sea Bass on the menu and as that is his new favourite fish, he was happy. I noticed the Chicken Tikka Curry and that appealed to me as husband is not a curry lover and when we are out I can indulge my passion for spicy foods. Our waiter took our orders and disappeared through the swinging door. Before long, he re-appeared with the message that unfortunately, there was no Sea Bass left, would you like to choose something else Husband perused the menu again and came upon his 2nd favourite food, Lamb Rump. He was still happy and we eagerly awaited our dinner. The kitchen door again swung open, and our waiter then informed us that there was no longer any lamb rump available and by the way, the Chicken Tikka was also unavailable. After perusing the menu again and subtly suggesting that he tell us what WAS available, we made our choices which were far from what we felt like. All in all, the presentation of the food was OK what can you do with Battered Fish Chips and 1/2 Roasted Chicken anyway and not the food we would normally choose at a Restaurant."
