"I went into Costa in Carterton this morning at around 10 am on the 28th May 2021. I am exempt from wearing a mask so out of respect i covered my face with my top. On entry I was shouted at across the store by the manager whose name is leah, she said, excuse me you NEED to wear a mask, I explained that i am exempt and had forgotten my lanyard, I offered to show her on my phone, she then said well if you 're exempt why are you covering your face? I explained that it was out of respect. I went on to ask if I could use the toilet and she said only if I 'd bought something, I explained that I had a medical condition and a card saying i need to use the toilet in an emergency, leah still said no, I then said if i don 't use the toilet quickly i will end up peeing on the floor, leah then said well pee on the floor then, this was in front of a shop full of customers in a food establishment. She then told me to leave her shop! I explained that I am also a manager and that she was being very rude and discriminatory towards me, as i have a sensitive medical condition which was being forced to be explained in front of the whole shop. This was very embarrassing. I then left the shop and she followed me outside and went to sit down and smoke a cigarette, again in front of all of the customers. I said to her all i wanted was to use the toilet, all she kept saying was that 's nice, this was extremely patronising and made me angry, she then said she was going to call the police as a woman who is twice her size was intimidating her, now.,being a larger lady i felt that she was also being discriminate towards my size. All in all I was discriminated against on 2 separate occasions in a short space of time and embarrassed in front of a shop full of people, as we walked away from the store i heard leah and another colleague named aisha laughing at me with customers. I went back and told her that i was going to report her and all she said was do it She then started on my daughter as we went back to speak to the other manager, leah threatened my daughter and barred her from the shop. This is unacceptable behaviour from a customer service manager and i have reported this incident to her head office and been promised that this will be internally investigated. I will be following up with the complaint as it is unhygienic to tell a disabled customer to pee on the floor in any situation never mind a food establishment. This person should not be working with the general public as she is rude and patronising."

"1-star review due to food poisoning and most importantly lack of appropriate response from management. We went for dinner with my wife and had the exact same dish. Roughly 6 hours after, both of us started feeling stomach cramps which then turned out to be pretty severe food poisoning with all the worst signs. My wife and I didn’t eat lunch from the same place and had no snacks during the day… My wife had to spend the entire day in bed while trying to breastfeed our 5-month old baby. It’s been four days and we still have symptoms. Yet the management response couldn’t be poorer. Firstly we had to wait almost 48 hours for the general manager to call us after emailing, going there in person and chasing by phone. When she called she didn’t apologise once. Not once. She told us a third party would investigate the case fully, including by calling us and give the parent company a report. It’s been five days and we still haven’t heard from that third party investigator. So I trust that the fridges have been wiped and the kitchen cleaned and the investigation will reveal nothing? The appropriate response from a general manager in the hospitality industry would have been to apologise, and offer compensation so we can move on, then go and do your internal investigation to ensure it doesn’t happen again. Instead the manager focused on not accepting liability, making us feel cheap suspected grifters."

"The photograph on Trip Advisor’s website of The Lamb’s cheeseburger French fries is entirely accurate but also entirely nauseating – a meat patty buried within a sloppy mess of stuff (see photo on this website) which, other than the cheese, we neither expected nor...requested. When trying to hold the bun and take a bite of it, the beef patty slithered out from its gunge onto the plate. Granted, there was a knife fork but what's the point of a cheeseburger if you can't grip the bun and bite into it? (Thinks: I wish I’d read Trip Advisor’s reviews on The Lamb in advance rather than afterwards. I would have just ordered a packet of crisps) On a positive note, we didn't throw up. Certainly we couldn't face eating again that evening we ended up sharing a tin of soup and a packet of crisps. The outdoor terrace was a pleasant spot for a lunchtime snack. The bill was (two cheeseburgers French fries at each plus for wine and fizzy water). Thinking positive, we saved money that evening by feeling too queasy to have more than a mug of soup and some crisps. Almost forgot: the French fries were excellent; what’s the betting they weren’t bought in?! The waitress service was pleasant. About two thirds of these “slopburger” were left on our respective plates. The waitress didn’t comment as they took away the plates. Fair enough- what could she possibly say? “I don’t blame you!” ? Next day I rang the manager or someone in charge to explain my disappointment, taking a gentle exploratory approach. To no avail. He insisted it was “a proper cheeseburger”. So maybe it’s me. Or maybe there’s a fine line between confidence and arrogance. Try it and see."

"Arrived asking if still did food service at 14:20 to be told unfortunately food stopped at 2pm, but they can offer basket meals at the price of £8.50. Simple selection but with my mother of 78, it wasn 't ideal but we went with the flow. We paid an astonishing £36 for food and drinks for three. whilst ordering the drinks, some small talk from the barman/owner about a old mate coming down and that he 'd been 'Heineken 'd and probably feeling it later ' was the bar mans choice of words whilst serving us and discussing his day with other punters. Great! We chose to sit in the court yard, sun trap and beautiful but unfortunately smokers were there. Other couples we 're also informed of the late food basket ordering offered, some 20 minutes after us. Their food arrived within 10 minutes of them ordering. I then asked where our food was as it had been 48 minutes since ordering It takes time to burn the sausages he replied! (my mom asked for well done sausages! not burnt to a crisp! The meals arrived and to my shock, the content of the baskets of food was appalling! I asked for more chips as I had only 19 slim chips in the basket, yet the extras we asked for arrived within 5 minutes of complaining and asking for more. He thought it was so funny to make us wait 45 minutes for burnt sausages whilst clearing the plates away! Very disappointing to what seemed a good looking place! In summary, avoid if possible, as there are many other good food outlets in the area."

"For full disclosure, I am an ex employee of this business. Now I am no longer affiliated with the cafe, I feel I can finally give my unbiased review of both dining here and working here. I am a vegan with coeliacs disease, a condition that has severely effected my life. Eden is the only place I am able to safely have a meal within a 50 mile radius of where I live. To accommodate people like me with severe allergies, the processes this cafe have are different from most vegan restaurants- a process that someone without experience of these life threatening allergies would struggle to understand. Safety and an inclusive, tasty menu at a reasonable price is what to expect here. As someone who has worked in hospitality for ten years, the cleanliness and care taken to ensure peace of mind for customers is unmatched. From a personal point of view, the care and compassion Becs (the owner of Eden) shows for her staff is something I haven’t experienced before in this industry. Becs’ priorities are the well-being of her employees, to the point of working through chemotherapy to help staff during busy days. This attitude has developed a wonderful community around the cafe. Eden is a perfect example of what an independent business can be under good ownership. I am so happy Eden exists- for a lot of us, it is a rare experience of feeling normal and accepted when eating out. All my thanks go to Becs for a wonderful and informative year of employment- I will continue to visit eden as a customer as often as I can."

"My husband and I popped in for breakfast today and were massively disappointed with the food and the service. We chose a Burford breakfast priced at 12.95, porridge and 2 pots of English breakfast tea, at over £3 per small pot The wait was long and when it arrived, the tea was so super weak it was undrinkable. We mentioned this to the waiter, who we assumed was a senior team member/manager. Instead of apologising etc, he grumpily huffed and simply said what tea is it? And stalked off with the weak pots. My husband went to the counter to collect the new pots and the man did eventually apologise. The Burford breakfast was a huge let down, cold bacon, cold beans, undercooked eggs, tomatoes so tough we couldn 't even cut them with a knife! The toast was stone cold too. The porridge was OK. We decided to give up with the cooked breakfast and simply order toast, we didn 't want to complain further! This took more than 25 minutes to arrive and the cafe was not remotely busy! We finally gave up, asked for a refund on the toast and the lady on the till said she was surprised at our experience. We had checked Trip Advisor whilst waiting for the toast to arrive, so knew the reviews they have been left for the last year or more, we pointed out to the lady that based on the reviews she should not be surprised... she replied that Trip Advisor is not an accurate representation of the business.... we however strongly disagree and will not be returning! The rest of the garden centre is a delight to visit, but avoid the cafe."
