"We were visiting a tourist attraction in the area and noted that the Bulls Head did food so we popped in. We ordered two cheese and bacon toasties which came with dirty fries with an additional order for a side salad. We waited 45 minutes and then approached the bar to enquire where our (very basic food was. I was advised that our order was being prepared next and the male staff member said we did warn you on ordering that food was taking 45 minutes . I replied that this had not been conveyed to us (as we would certainly not have continued with the order but found an alternative location for our snack . Satisfied that our food would be arriving immanently I returned to my table. I waited a further 25 minutes and returned to the bar to again, asking where our food was. I was advised that it was literally on it 's way out of the kitchen. So again, I returned to our table and true to his word, the food arrived, but it was NOT what was specified on the menu which had stated dirty fries (topped with bacon and chopped spring . Our fries merely had some sauce drizzled over. This was absolutely the last straw. I returned to the counter with the food and asked to speak with the Manager as I wished to have a refund as the food was not as specified. I duly got out my credit card (original method of payment but was immediately provided with a cash refund. I believe that the staff just wanted to get us out of the premises quickly as it was very obvious that we were far from happy. Luckily we are not local and therefore not likely to be in the area again but needless to say, if we were, we would certainly NOT be making a repeat visit."

Very cosy traditional pub offering a selection of dishes to suit any taste at reasonable prices. The interior is homely, welcoming and the staff very friendly.

Over-modernised for such a beautiful old pub. The service was good but the steak I had was like chewing on an old boot. I've never had such a tough one and couldn't finish it as my teeth couldn't cope.

The latest price increases are a bad idea. The pub has been very quiet lately in comparison with Wetherspoons. Stonegate, having had serious debt problems, are shooting themselves in the foot and probably shooting the manager in the back.

Food took quite a while, although they didn't seem too busy. Chips arrived stone cold, wonder how long they were sitting. Husbands burger was apparently lovely though. Also Heinz mayo left out on tables, opened, dated with a sticker a few days ago. FDA recommend not doing this, I personally wouldn't ever take the risk of eating mayo that has been unrefrigerated for days at room temperature.

Visited with my Children as part of a birthday celebration with his friends, reserved a table a week before and pre ordered the meal selection. Took an hour for food to arrive despite pre ordering and people coming in after us and being served quickly. Food arrived wrong, burnt to a crisp, fish was inedible and had to go back to the kitchen. Chips were rock hard, vegetables rubbery and salad was old and dry. Allnof the children picked upnon this amd we felt extremely embarrassed for my son. Desert came out and was wrong so again had to wait for replacement. All in to feed 8 of us took 3 hours for bad food. Staff couldn't care less with unhygienic practices from the manager who was going to d...

We live locally so we know you don 't go here for fine dining but for a quick bite to eat it 's normally ok. Last Saturday it was dreadful. I had lasagne which came with garlic bread and a side salad and I ordered a side of fries. There is nothing good to say about it. The lasagne was tiny and so very runny. The garlic bread was two slices but actually about two mouthfuls in each. Which actually wasn 't a bad thing as it was cold. Not just been out of the grill a while cold, but straight out of the fridge cold. The chips were again a tiny portion. Oven chips as you 'd expect from such a place but they appeared to have been cooked some days before and then microwaved. The side salad was two s...

"Nipped in for a quick bite on a Friday evening. We went up to what looked like the restaurant bar and asked if it was possible to get a table but were directed to the main bar to ask about this. The place was packed- getting served at the internal bar would have been a bit of a fight. Had a similar experience on a visit here before because there's not much space around the bar so you tend to get an impenetrable crowd instead of any sort of line. Eventually managed to get the attention of a member of staff and were told the restaurant was fully booked, however we could sit outside and order food at the bar to our outside table. Would have saved us some time if that was communicated through the team and relayed by the first person we asked instead of sending us to queue elsewhere. We did order to an outside table, and the food was excellent. The small pizzas really are quite small. But if you have a couple of sides they're perfect to not overstuff you. If you want to just eat pizza probably get a large. Also they had really interesting topping selections on the pizzas- I had the spiced aubergine, creme fraiche and honey. It was absolutely delicious. The chips were hot and well seasoned, the greek salad also really nice- I did miss the addition of peppers and would possibly remove the pea shoots and sub in the peppers to improve this and keep it more authentic though. Drinks were nice and the atmosphere inside was quite cosy and outside had a nice vibe with the tasteful lightning and wooden furniture. Would definitely return (but probably make a reservation. It's busy for a reason!"

"We stayed for one night prior to a flight at East Midlands Airport and everything was excellent, from the warm, welcoming staff, to the rooms and the simply delicious food (evening and breakfast). Firstly the pub: food, drinks, restaurant… All excellent. The sign of a great pub for ale drinkers is one with knowledgeable staff who are keen to let you sample before deciding on a pint. This was the case here and we worked through all five real ales during the afternoon and evening! Also a great selection of wines, and everything served in the correct glasses I loved the attention to detail. Then the evening meal in the restaurant area of the pub: this was also excellent, with a great menu and top food, in plentiful portions. Really delicious all ‘round. We didn’t manage desserts but starters and mains all great. The pub/restaurant is well presented inside and out, with a lovely beer garden at the back. Secondly, the hotel rooms: we were in rooms 1 2 and both were lovely. They were well presented, comfy beds, nice hospitality tray (with fresh milk in the in room fridge), nice toiletries. The room rate included breakfast, which was all freshly cooked to order and once again, a great selection. I would 100% stay here again, especially if going to/from East Midlands airport which was less than a 10 minute drive. A lovely, traditional country Inn with excellent food and hospitality. Thank you to the full team."
