"Asked if we could book afternoon tea for 4 as I was celebrating my birthday we were all very disappointed we were not expecting it to come out in the usual style of a cake stand and understood it was a takeaway the sandwiches were cut into 4 in each box to share the cake was 4 bar cakes just each slice cut into very small triangles not indulgent and apart from the lemon and elderflower the other cake slices were quite dry the sandwiches were lovely and so was the scone with jam and cream I was told by another couple after we had ordered and paid it wasnt good value and afterwards totally agree. Yes we are in a pandemic but after having afternoon tea many times in the tea room pre covid i would not buy again but instead of packets it would be nice to see afternoon tea presented in a box for each person rather than all having to share from the same box of sandwiches and the cake bars/slices just in packets"

"A wonderful place to visit.... Which we did twice. Once midweek for evening meal which was excellent. The second was for Sunday lunch. This proved to be truly amazing. For me as the only vegetarian...... This was without doubt the best vegetarian roast I have ever had. All meals were absolutely fantastic and all three of us couldn't have asked any more for quality, quantity and friendly service. Indeed, we abandoned the rest of our walk and spent the afternoon in the garden overlooking a brilliant view with a bottle of wine before our walk back across the fields to Mount Pleasant Farm Cottages. The new landlord and landlady were charming and have worked very hard to bring life and reputation back to what we gather was a failed previous management. Good luck to them and if what we experienced was their start.... The future of them and the pub is assured. Thank you for such great experiences."

"Really disappointing visit as we have heard great things about the food. Unfortunately never even got to try it! We were shown to our table and the staff vanished for over 10 minutes. We were convinced at this point it was bar service so had to find someone and check it wasn’t. Not sure if they are understaffed but there were no staff walking around and checking on tables. We ordered our food and waited an hour. Finally gave up and asked a member of staff to find out someone had made an error on the till and the kitchen hadn’t even gotten our order yet. When asked how long it would take they basically had no idea. At this point we gave up and walked out. We saw another customer complain that her food was taking a long time so I know our bad service wasn’t an isolated incident. Would have liked to try the highly recommended food but the whole experience was a disaster from start to finish."

"Went today for Sunday lunch with friends (party of having made the booking last time we were there a few weeks ago (when the service was mediocre but not too bad). It was a booking and whilst there were some tables were occupied...already it was far from busy. Initially, drinks arrived quickly and order taken promptly. Even the starters arrived quickly and were excellent. And then things god worse. All of our party ordered the Sunday roast easy peasy for any eatery but after an hour and a quarter I had to enquire where the main course was. It arrived about minutes later and apart from the fact that pork had been applied VERY sparingly to one plate (two small slices concealed under a Yorkshire Pudding), which was quickly addressed, all was good. Everything well cooked and really tasty. Then it got worse again. The plates were eventually cleared and a dessert menu procured. And we waited, and waited, and waited. To be fair, everyone else was waiting as well and the place had got quite busy. But we waited, and waited some more, and then, after two hours and forty five minutes, we got bored with waiting and asked for the bill, stressing that we would have ordered desserts but it was too late by this time. I went to pay the bill and asked to speak to the Manager. It transpired that the young lad who had been serving was (allegedly) in charge, although I do find it hard to believe that someone we thought was a weekend waiter' would be the most senior on the premises. He trotted out that well used phrase sorry, short staffed' which I am afraid doesn't really wash. Clearly, they have been delighted to secure lots of nice profitable bookings whilst not securing the staff to service them. To be fair, the waiting staff were coping quite well but if the restaurant doesn't have the staff to service the customers, don't take as many bookings. Simple. Anyway, that was all he said, no other excuse or appeasement so, I am afraid that whilst what we had was good, and was great value, we will not be darkening the doors of the Brownlow in future. There are plenty of other places equally good who don't keep me waiting until tea time for lunch"

"We have visited the pub a number of times since th re-opening and we have never been disappointed. The food is excellent, the service is lovely and the atmosphere is great. Our Sunday dinners have been absolutely delicious, especially the lamb dish and if we fancy fish and chips at home this is the only place we get them from now! Definitely recommend! Dietary restrictions: The staff are always conscious about allergies and happy to accommodate any requirements."
