"This restaurant is kitted out like a 'typical' Bavarian beer cellar complete with wait staff in traditional dress, and as such could easily be mistaken for a ghastly tourist trap. However I found the food really good reasonably priced and seemingly freshly prepared to...order and with a seasonal specialties menu that emphasised the same 'in season' and locally sourced products mushrooms and herrings at the moment that the hotel around the corner was featuring at about double the price! The staff were also super friendly, and were, for example, totally relaxed about me as a lone diner occupying a large table since that was the only one available. At many restaurants I would just have been turned away in those circumstances. All in all, an excellent choice for a beer andor a meal"

Struggled to find a bar in the centre of Hamburg which was open at lunch time. Dropped onto this place, charming and great beer

Exactly as described by StephenC in the previous review. I visit at least once each time I have the pleasure of a trip to Hamburg. Inexpensive, cheerful and not too over the top Bavarian themed

The restaurant has a beautiful ambience. The food came very fast and tastes fantastic. The potato dumplings are produced themselves, for example. The staff is friendly. It is very spacious (2 floors and outdoor areas). The toilets are modern and very clean.

This is a nice place to have dinner. The food is good, the service is friendly. And the beers are huge. I had dinner at the Restaurant Franziskaner while visiting Hamburg. It's a fun place to spend an evening. But make sure that you are...hungry when you visit, the portion sizes are generous Visualizza piatti

This is a traditional Bavarian restaurant. Excellent food and the staff are amazing. Two adults and two children and years old. The food came quickly the staff were really good and so inviting. There was one small problem no nappy changing facilities, that...was a little hmmm. All in all excellent

Nice ambience very friendly service..and fast too. We really enjoyed our mushroom soup, veal schnitzel Schwein Schnitzel..all were very delicious. The minus star: we saw a little mice crawling down the staircase Informed the staff but the mice went hiding between the...staircase. I hope the restaurant could solve this issue fast

We always look for traditional and local food in our travels. Thanks to our hosts in Hamburg we didn't have to search a lot. Contrary to what many may think about German food this restaurant offers a variety of different dishes to please everybody taste....Excellent dining experience thanks also to a very friendly staff. Highly recommended Visualizza piatti

Came on here to search the area for somewhere to eat. Probably would never have explored that area of town otherwise. Great find! Staff were excellent and helped to seat us earlier than our booking. Place was full with what seemed a mix of people...both local and tourists. Large menu and large portion size too. Couldn't fault our meal. Very tasty meat

The Franziskaner serves up amazing delicious Bavarian food in a warm bar and restaurant setting. Everything on the menu is home cooked and superbly done. I could have been in Munich not Hamburg. The beer and wine list was also extensive and dedicated to Bavaria....The staff are great. Very friendly. The service is super fast. I highly recommend the Franziskaner

"There's always a question (in my mind, anyway) as to Michelin's accuracy/usefulness outside of France. In the US, it's not very helpful at all and in Europe ex-France, I've found it hit and miss. Haerlin represented only my second stab at a two-star in Germany and the first meal (Heinz Winkler), while a thoroughly wonderful overall experience, felt like the second star might have been a stretch. Not so at Haerlin, this was a two-star meal that stands fork-to-fork with any I can remember. The food is stylized to within an inch of its life, but close to flawless in both conception and execution. Outside of a large selection of generally unremarkable breads and a luke-warm roasted onion broth added to an amuse at table side that probably should have been hotter, the meal was simply one perfect dish after another. Maybe the sorbet intermezzo was a little old school in such a fashion forward meal, but - hey - it was delicious! Keep it.The room is suitably formal, luxurious in a traditional style, and quite comfortable. The pace of service might be a little leisurely for some (I ate alone and the four-course menu (seven + courses, including amuses, etc) pushed it a bit, stretching just over three hours. However, the friendly and attentive staff kept an eye out the entire time and stopped by if the time between courses presented the opportunity. The somm, in particular, was a great diversion, visiting from time to time to discuss the varied and interesting wines on offer. He provided useful insight into the outstanding selection of trocken Rieslings on the list. He guided me to a 2001 Burklin-Wolf GG that, at Eu 150, was both a great bottle of mature white and a tremendous value for a wine of this quality in this type of restaurant. (Good luck finding a white burgundy of this quality at this price at any multi-star restaurant - or at retail, for that matter.) He also suggested a wonderful German Pinot Noir by the glass that worked perfectly with the meat course and wasn't terribly expensive. The list is extensive, but not the tome you see at some restaurants, but don't be fooled - wine service at Haerlin is both a major plus and represents notable value in the context of multi-star restaurants.I'm not going to argue two-star vs three-star because that distinction often seems to be kind of mysterious (and tangentially related to the food), but I will say that this place certainly deserves two stars. I had just a flat-out great meal. If you can work in a visit, Haerlin should be high on your list."
