Gasthof Stadtalm - Naturfreundehaus Mönchsberg

Went there for a quick break. The food is excellent and the views are stunning. Be sure to try the traditional Viennese desserts.

Cute cafe with wooden tables and benches under umbrellas right at the edge of the Monchsberg. Great views of the city and beyond. The food was excellent and portion sizes were huge.

This café overs midrange food. The view is marvellous but the owner know that the customers will come anyhow. So there is no extra effort from the serving personal and the food is not special. I had kaiserschmarn and it seems to be mad of industrial prefabricated doug.

The view is great but unfortunately the food isn't worth a visit! It's not austrian style at all... the Topfenstrudel and the Kaiserschmarrn were awful if you know the real austrian cuisine! The mozarella on the tomatoe-salad wasn't good quality. In total, the food was a desaster and for the quality not cheap as well! All in all we enjoyed the friendly service and the amazing view but we wouldn't recommend any meal at the Stadtalm Café!

If you like surly, 'couldn't care less' service, mediocre food and high prices with a great view then this is the place for you! Oh, and the 'gratis' bagels are not free. They are presented on the table as they are in many Austrian eateries without comment and the impression given therefore that they are comp. They are 2 euros each! We left this cafe feeling like ripped-off cash cows (and rudely treated). 'Give us your money and ****-off' would be their strap line. But they know that they do not need repeat custom so why should they try harder?

Fantastic location just off the Monchsberg Walk with beautiful views of Salzburg. Service is kind and genial, but the food is really awful. In the 2 weeks I was in Bavaria this was a low point. One could say that I ordered poorly, but one could also say that the food just sucks. I got a plate with a huge pile of bologna on it. Yep, that's right. Bologna, with a few vinegar onions and an anemic tomato on the side. Oh, and mustard served in a little packet (kind of like French's mustard). Nasty meal. You'd probably do better to just order a coffee and enjoy the view.

I ate here with a group on the last night of my vacation. First thing you need to know, you can walk up to the restaurant, but you will climb a lot of stairs. The only other way to get there is by taxi. If you try to drive a rental car, you will be stopped because the last part of the road is protected by a pole sticking out of the ground, and you need a special device to make it drop into the ground to pass through.
