"Just got back from an early dinner at this place and had to write this review. This was my first time eating Japanese cuisine and so I went with a friend and an open mind. What a great first experience! The service staff were attentive and so polite and courteous… rushed off their feet as it was pretty full but still smiling and always approachable. The food exceeded my expectations we both had the vegetarian sweet potato croquette curry with rice and it really was so tasty and satisfying. We also had the cucumber starter and it was fresh and flavourful. The raspberry mocktail I ordered was the only thing with which I was unimpressed. It was nothing more than a normal glass of some cordial with sparkling water which for £6 was quite extortionate. I’ll be back for the food again for sure!"

The service was friendly but slow, and the food was decent.

Lovely food, but service is often slow. It’s easy to feel forgotten while the servers focus on clearing tables. Maybe they just need more staff during the busy times?

Lovely food, super lovely staff. Highly recommend it! I loved that the staff say “Irasshaimase” like the restaurants do in Japan, and my husband loved their signature dish. Five stars!

Food was good, not excellent but a decent ramen. There’s not much to say about the service, it’s adequate for this type of establishment. They do keep you waiting an extraordinarily long time to acknowledge you’ve arrived, which, is a little disconcerting.

We booked a table via The Fork. We were welcomed promptly and shown to our table, the waiter explained the menu and left. No one came to take our order for quite long time. We thought we have to do it by scanning the code on the table… eventually husband went to see a member of staff and placed an order. The restaurant became very busy hence waiting time for food was longer than expected. Starters very tasty, ramen too however the waiter mixed up the bowls… no room for dessert.

The food at this restaurant is fantastic, but the service could use some work. Despite booking a table and arriving on time, we were asked to sit at the counter even though there were empty tables available. When I requested a table, I noticed that there were no bookings at the other tables. It was 2:30pm on a Sunday in Oxford. Eventually, my wife and I were seated at a table very close to another table for two. This was not the best table we could have gotten considering we had made a reservation.

My partner and I had an early dinner at 5pm. We both ordered the ramen and Katsu curry, which were delicious and came in generous portions. Our starters of Bao bun and octopus were also tasty. We had booked using Yums, but the restaurant initially informed us that they only accepted Yums in their London locations. We paid our bill in full, but after speaking with the manager, he agreed to refund our 2000 Yums with a £50 note. In the end, everything worked out well and we would definitely return if we find ourselves in Oxford again. It was surprising to see the restaurant so busy at 5pm on a Monday.

"I've been going to Oxford for 3 years now and in that time to be frank struggled to find a decent go to restaurant. I can now say with delight i've found my destination. I present SPICED ROOTS a little caribbean culinary gem. The fresh perfectly cooked food is absolutely delicious and gives off that home cooked by mummy vibe and is beautifully presented. The chilli and garlic prawns had my eyes closed Mark Weins style (if you know you know) so juicy with an incredible depth of flavour, the Trini doubles not only were seasoned to perfection they left you wanting more and the Jerk chicken spring rolls were an absolute triumph. For mains we had the ackee and callaloo Jerk Tempah (vegetarian) and the Jerk chicken. Both came with rice peas, plaintain and salad. Not only were the portions huge the flavours of both dishes were just mind blowingly delicious. Then we embarked on dessert and had the beautiful spiced rum cake and a selection of 3 home made ice creams namely Coconut, Guinness and the old Caribbean favourite Rum and Raisin, all recommended by the owner. It's at this point I feel compelled to speak about the rum raisin ice cream. I've eaten this ice cream on numerous occasions at numerous locations in Jamaica over my many years and I tell you no word of a lie this was hands down the best rum and raisin ice cream I've ever tasted, it literally left us speechless. So to summarise, this place has great food, great music, great service and a wonderfully charming owner who's totally invested in serving great, incredibly tasty, authentic Caribbean food clearly prepared with love. What more could you ask for. Fair to say it was meant to be. Uncle Jay."
