We came across this interesting bar as we walked around the Louvre area of Paris. After a lot of walking we were ready for a break and although not cheap (as expected in this part of the city) the beer was good and came with a pot of tasty olives!

We went there with my mother for a quick lunch: service is fine and friendly. The waitress was welcoming and smiling. The food was really so so: avoid de onion soup: it was not cooked properly and tasted like hot water with raw onions. The main dishes were ok. Disappointed that the owner did not offer the soup or even a coffee to compensate when we informed them of the poor quality of the soup.

Most recent visit 4.8.17. Having fled the unfriendly confines of Le Garde Robe nearby (see review), La Taverne was a welcome and friendly escape. It makes the impression more of a proper dive bar than French cafe, which can be a nice change of pace. Staff is friendly, happy to speak English or at least try, and the selections by the glass are nice. That said, it doesn't look like the sort of place where I'd recommend dining, although many people were doing just that. The clientele is a mix of locals and tourists. Recommended when in the area.

Our group of 6 was a little large for upstairs so they sat us in the cellar, which was a really interesting room with stone walls but a little musty - you can tell the building is really old. The food and wine were delicious - the duck confit was probably the best duck I ever had. The waitress was very nice and the prices were reasonable. There is seating on the sidewalk outside where most of the diners were; however, due to the time of year they had a temporary enclosure around the sidewalk tables: consequently, it was really smoky out there.
