"We were a group of four adults on a mini tour of the Loire Valley and found this restaurant on TripAdvisor, booking from the UK a few days before our arrival. Had we not reserved, we wouldn't have been seated ... People were being turned away as it was full from early on Saturday evening. We were pleasantly surprised to have been allotted a table outside which was most welcome given the muggy temperature. Service was provided by two very jolly, friendly and helpful young men! We chose the rillettes starter which was to die for and steak and guineafowl between us for main, perhaps not the most tender of beef however we weren't paying extortionate prices and the flavour was lovely and presentation excellent. With only two of us having dessert as we had eaten enough really, the price came in at around €25 each including drinks and tips. Given the location in the picturesque old town with its timbered buildings, quaint, narrow streets and not far from the river, we thought this was quite reasonable. There is a secure underground car park next to the main road along by the river which is a ten minute stroll to the restaurant at most."

"Warm welcome, extremely friendly and inviting staff, real French cuisine from the terroir in a unique setting and at a perfectly correct price. Address that I note in my little notebook, I will return without hesitation when I am passing through the area. P.S.: The chocolate melt is quite divine!"

"A beautiful address we will share with our surroundings. The meal was delicious from the entrance to the dessert. Very pleasant and discreet service. The room is a little dark but otherwise the decor is nice. Thank you for this beautiful moment"

"Stopped off in Blois on our way to Normandy from Loire Valley. Parked at the chateau, car park pretty cheap parking and right in the centre of town. This little place was lovely, charming and service was great and super friendly! Lots to choose from, plus daily specials but as the owner is from Normandy lots of dishes on the menu influenced by flavours and ingredients from that region. We tried the fillet de St Pierre, Volaille Supreme with the potatoes covered in Camembert, the Croustiade de Canard with sauce foie gras all delicious. We ordered a carafe of Rose which was lovely and a steal at only 10 euros. They have a kids option albeit one but good with fresh oven potatoes and steamed chicken plus an array of ice creams, little one was happy."

"We went there early in the evening, and we were lucky to have room. The place is held by a charming couple, and the lady was very helpful. Salted pancakes were delicious and homemade ingredients. I was very disappointed by the sugar salted butter pan, which was extremely salty (and not homogeneous). I recommend the caramel pancake for dessert. The blue light of the restaurant nevertheless gives a cold atmosphere that I did not at all like."

"Assa is located in a nondescript building on the western edge of Blois. Inside, however, the restaurant displays a spare, modern, Japanese-influenced design. The tables are spaciously arranged on two levels giving all of them access to a direct view of the Loire flowing slowly past. The kitchen is open to the restaurant where the two chef-owners can be seen busily creating the meals. The menu has several format options allowing for the selection of different combinations of appetizers, main courses and desserts; the specific menu contents change based on the available produce. The wine list mainly focuses on Loire Valley wines arranged geographically from the Muscadets of the coastal region to the eastern-most Sancerres. It took some time for the server to acknowledge us when we entered, then take our order, because there was only one person serving all the tables. But, once the dinner began, the experience was wonderful. The dishes are among the most inventive and flavorful we have encountered over the years in many other Michelin-starred restaurants. The non-traditional flavor combinations worked extremely well. The two main courses that night—dourade and veal—were spectacular. Assa is a French, not a Japanese, restaurant, but with a Japanese influence in the flavors and the plating of the dishes. All the dishes we sampled were light and fresh without heavy sauces. The menu was written in French only, and the server spoke very little English, but any sophisticated diner with a broad palate will have a wonderful experience by sitting back and letting the courses flow. As each course is small (a few bites), if you are there for dinner, we do suggest choosing the options with most or all of the courses. Sticking to the classic French “formule” of a starter, main course, and dessert, will be fine for lunch, but perhaps too little at dinner. If we return to this region of the Loire Valley, Assa will be first on our list."

"Ambiance bistrot. Copieux. Et surtout maison. Cuisinés pratiquement au bar. Prix dans la moyenne. Comptez 25-30 €/personne boisson comprise. Petit fond musical d'accordéon bien sympa. Un endroit très sympa."

"The restaurant is located near the castle of Blois. The menu was in French but our waitress explained it to us in perfect English. All our dishes were very tasty. My wife ordered "Tajine de volaille" and loved it. My "Cochon de lait" was very good as well. One of our kids is vegetarian so they changed the dish of risotto for him, replacing shrimps with mushrooms. The mushrooms were so tasty that we ordered another plate just of mushrooms and they happily provided it though of course it's not part of the menu. It was the best meal in our whole trip and I highly recommend this restaurant."

"For the weekend on Blois and its surroundings, we had dinner last night with my wife in this fabulous restaurant, the reception of the owner of the place is as hot as we asked him advice on the wines of the region not only he knows perfectly the surrounding properties but is in your ear to advise you and do not hesitate to make you taste. As for the meal, we shared a very hearty plate of charcuterie and very rich cheese and two falafel and smoked salmon and a chicken and mushroom dish to finish, we are no longer hungry, while I explained to the owner that I wanted to be wise despite my desire for milk rice, this one kindly offered us to taste, a party. So don’t hesitate for reception, dishes, wines and prices very correct. Thank you for this very good time."

"Very very disappointing, really bad price quality. A burger marked beef and chicken, but the ground meat has no meat taste, for €19, a real scam! Sea couscous, super salty and the semolina has the same taste as the product swollen in hot water...And that adds an unpleasant waitress. What's the point of having a waitress who repeats the same thing to all the customers, without smiling and with an unpleasant tone? Equip a tablet at the table, the order will be taken better! The only positive point is the dessert, chocolate orange praline, very successful. Overall, if you want to have a good meal, go ahead. Service: Dine in Meal type: Dinner Food: 1 Service: 1 Atmosphere: 1"

"Made a reservation for this place having read reviews on all the top restaurants in Blois and to be fair also only those with a space at 24 hours notice. We had a table upstairs which I would say is not as desirable as at ground level, upstairs the decor is more traditional or perhaps even a bit old-fashioned. Whilst perhaps taking the edge off the experience we were not too bothered as it is all about the food.We ate from the Orangerie set menu at €60 a head and spent about the same on wines by the glass (7) and a bottle of Evian. Although reasonably expensive the wines were nice quality but 75cl Evian for €8 is for me a bit of a liberty. The service was really good with friendly staff who accommodated my terrible French and switched readily to English as required. After canapés and a superb amuse Bouche we "started"with foie gras (disguised as an oversized cherry!) washed down with a molleaux cote du layon which was fabulous. However the star of the show had to be the rack of lamb. Never in my life have I had lamb as tender as this. Until now I have never believed you could eat medium rare meat without using you teeth to chew, I am now a believer! The cheese board was extensive and reasonable for a €5 supplement; the desert refreshing.Well worth a trip if in Blois but look for a table downstairs for a more rounded experience."

"We dined here on the first night of our five-night stay in Blois. It's across the river from the main part of town and (presumably) away from where most tourists tend to gravitate to for dining). On the night we were there, there were a few tables that looked like tourists but most looked like locals. I mention this because if a restaurant isn't catering to tourists, they HAVE to be good or else they will go out of business. La Creusille was MORE than good and (just as important), they didn't treat us like tourists! The setting, just off of the Loire, was beautiful and comfortable (important as France was suffering a bad heat wave but as soon as the sun went down, there was a nice breeze off the river), the service was friendly (some English spoken), but the foods were absolutely delicious. I think the only complaint was the rhum baba I had for dessert was drier than I was used to. Additionally, they had a tasty list of wines for very good prices (especially if you are used to the mark-up in the States!). Definitely will be heading back there next time in the Loire and would easily recommend it to anyone going there."
