"O Frango is situated in the heart of the lively Portuguese quarter of Hamburg, near the harbour front (go for a walk along the river after your meal) We visited O Frango on a Wednesday night on the recommendation of a Portuguese friend and got...there at about and it was already nearly full we hadn't reserved but managed to get a table for two. Within an hour the restaurant was full. They also have some tables outside on the pavement but the evening was too chilly to sit outside. This would be great in the summer though. The tables are very close together and when full the restaurant is quite noisy. There was also a live guitarist moving between the tables. The service is friendly and helpful and the menu is traditional Portuguese. We ordered a mixed tapas dish. There is quite a long wait between ordering and getting the food but if they cook everything fresh then I'm prepared to wait a little. While we waited we had bread, olives and garlic butter with our chilled vinho Verde. When the food came it was a gigantic platter which almost filled the small table. There were eleven different dishes ranging from fried whitebait to chorizo to scampi to fillet steak to cheese. Every one was delicious and this made for a very good meal indeed. I wouldn't advise ordering anything more than this as we couldn't finish it. A main course would be superfluous. We didn't have room for dessert so just finished off with very good coffee. If you want the authentic atmosphere and wonderful food of a little Portuguese restaurant, then you can't go wrong with the excellent O Frango."

This restaurant was offered me by a local tour guide in the late October. It is famous for its grilled fish. Portuguese family who ran the restaurant were very friendly.

The food was over cooked, salty and quite dry. Disappointing given the high TripAdvisor rating, which was the reason we chose the restaurant. The service however was very good.

Portogiesian Family restaurant close to the harbor/Landungsbrücken. Original Portogiesian food, wine and drinks. All plates are very tasty. Coshy style of the restaurant, very friendly staff and good prices. Our recommendation for the Eastern time: sheep in tadgine with red wine Visualizza piatti

This is a family run VERY BUSY place where Portuguese is spoken. The interior is pure Portugal funk. They served the best food we had during our time in Hamburg, by far. The fish was just like you get in Portugal. Huge platters of Salmon,...Sardines, Halibut, Calamari, all at a price that makes you want to go back. A little example? Half a lire of excellent house red wine? Euro. Fish platter for that could easily feed Euro. You are welcomed with open arms here are. Super dining experience.

We try to avoid touristic places in our trips, but after reading some good reviews for this restaurant, we decided to make an exception. We ordered a bottle of water, some shrimps as starters and fish as main dishes. The shrimps came after minutes...and they were ok, but we had to wait hours for our fishes. After hours we decided to live the restaurant and to go somewhere else to eat. I cannot say something about the food because it didn’t come and the staff not very polite. It was the only bad experience in the beautiful city of Hamburg.

We were a party of five, mixed languages and culinary tastes. Ordered five starters which we shared. Wow, the portions were very generous and the food tasted so good. Everyone was remarking how each dish was so delicious. Compliments to the chef. With some trepidation...we waited for our main meals as we were so full from the starters. The main meals did not disappoint and were thoroughly enjoyed by all. Excellent service by the chaps on duty on the October Would highly recommend this restaurant and would perhaps suggest to book as we were very lucky to be squeezed in. Muito Obrigado from the Portuguese woman and friends from South Africa and America.

First of all, my rating on the place is based on the entire experience and not only on the food. First of all, this is a cozy place that gives you a good feeling when entering the it. But is seems at bit dirty and...the ventilation is really bad. You have to open the window on a packed night like ours. The second thing is the attention from the staff. They are very nice, but things do not move along in a fast pace. This may be in the nature of the Portuguese style, but a little slow after my opinion. We tried a lot of the starters on the menu, and they were on the spot. Really tasty and they are highly recommended. The main course was my own fault, I ordered the steak, but this is not a stea...

"There's always a question (in my mind, anyway) as to Michelin's accuracy/usefulness outside of France. In the US, it's not very helpful at all and in Europe ex-France, I've found it hit and miss. Haerlin represented only my second stab at a two-star in Germany and the first meal (Heinz Winkler), while a thoroughly wonderful overall experience, felt like the second star might have been a stretch. Not so at Haerlin, this was a two-star meal that stands fork-to-fork with any I can remember. The food is stylized to within an inch of its life, but close to flawless in both conception and execution. Outside of a large selection of generally unremarkable breads and a luke-warm roasted onion broth added to an amuse at table side that probably should have been hotter, the meal was simply one perfect dish after another. Maybe the sorbet intermezzo was a little old school in such a fashion forward meal, but - hey - it was delicious! Keep it.The room is suitably formal, luxurious in a traditional style, and quite comfortable. The pace of service might be a little leisurely for some (I ate alone and the four-course menu (seven + courses, including amuses, etc) pushed it a bit, stretching just over three hours. However, the friendly and attentive staff kept an eye out the entire time and stopped by if the time between courses presented the opportunity. The somm, in particular, was a great diversion, visiting from time to time to discuss the varied and interesting wines on offer. He provided useful insight into the outstanding selection of trocken Rieslings on the list. He guided me to a 2001 Burklin-Wolf GG that, at Eu 150, was both a great bottle of mature white and a tremendous value for a wine of this quality in this type of restaurant. (Good luck finding a white burgundy of this quality at this price at any multi-star restaurant - or at retail, for that matter.) He also suggested a wonderful German Pinot Noir by the glass that worked perfectly with the meat course and wasn't terribly expensive. The list is extensive, but not the tome you see at some restaurants, but don't be fooled - wine service at Haerlin is both a major plus and represents notable value in the context of multi-star restaurants.I'm not going to argue two-star vs three-star because that distinction often seems to be kind of mysterious (and tangentially related to the food), but I will say that this place certainly deserves two stars. I had just a flat-out great meal. If you can work in a visit, Haerlin should be high on your list."
