We have been there only once, but we believe to come again because we would like to taste other dishes from their card. The staff is very friendly and prices are moderate. "Banmaai is a very modern looking Thai restaurant in Kiel, just a few minutes walk off of the harbour-side.It was a very warm evening at the time of our visit and almost the whole of the façade was opened up to let in a gentle breeze. On the interior the rattan wall work gives a natural, minimalist but a comfortable, modern feel. Bliss, and that's before the food was served.The food options are very good and you can't go wrong with Tom Ka Gai to start with, and for mains, the Gai Pad Prik Thai Gratiem is amazing !If you are looking for a beer, then you are in safe hands with a choice of local fare and some bottled Thai as well. For cocktails too the selection seems good, it's only in the the wine and spirits department that things are a little on the small side.The staff were great, friendly and thankfully accommodating to our lack of the local language.Overall a very pleasant experience."

"The purchase was finished, but the next appointment was only in just two hours. Driving home was pointless, as the appointment was still further away from home north of the NOK (North East Canal). So the opportunity to go back to a cafe. My proposal, the Schiffercafe in Kiel-Holtenau, was enthusiastically accepted by Madame. She already knew this place, I haven't. We found a parking lot right before the access to the Tiessenkai and went the small piece to the cafe. At the entrance no one was seen by the staff, a sign at the counter announced “self-service!”, four of the five tables in the main guest room were occupied. We immediately took the fifth table in fitting, and while Madame solved an urgent disposal problem, I saw the panels described with chalk next to and behind the vault. It only took a look at the cake offerings behind the glass pane, then the case was clear for me (even if Günter Neutze hasn't solved criminal cases for years now. When Madame then returned to the table in a simple way, I pointed them to my favorites. This time she was “dran”, waited at the counter for operation and then ordered two cappuccino (each 3,00 € and two pieces of dark cherry cake (each 2,40 €). The cake pieces were placed promptly on plates, we had to wait a few minutes for the products of the scuba and smoky coffee machine. Finally, the machine was finished and we were able to receive our coffee specialities in our own cups. On top there was an extremely stable milk foam, the sweetening pills had to be sunk with the help of the spoon. The cappuccino was really good and with a strong coffee taste, the cherry cake tasted even better than it looked. So it's decided. Our table stood right at the window, so we had not only the interior well in sight, but also the events at the dock. And there it went round, in succession several Dutch traditional sailors placed right in front of the door. From one of the old ships a whole school class crawled down, split up the remaining proviant and was then picked up by Mom or Dad or both. It was quite amusing for us. When the Oslo ferry came out from the village, it was time for us to leave this hospitable place."

"Ich bestelle bei Croque Paris schon, seit ich 2000 hier her gezogen bin. Früher im Knooper Weg, dann am Minetti Platz und nun, da es wohl nur noch diese eine Filiale gibt, eben in der Boninstraße. Da muss ich dann halt ein bisschen fahren, aber das ist es wert. Ich habe immer einen sehr leckeren Croque bekommen. Nie schlechte Qualität! Immer frisch! Und, ich bin auch noch nie unfreundlich bedient worden (fällt mir gerade auf). Überall kann es mal stressig sein, ja. Aber, ich werde immer freundlich bedient. Die Croques sind einfach saulecker. Lohnt sich immer!!! Ich gehe in keinen anderen Croque Laden. Sollte Dieser irgendwann nicht mehr da sein, wäre ich aufgeschmissen. Ich hab gar keine Lust, mich woanders durchzutesten. 11.11.2023 , Nachtrag! Ich muss mich heute korrigieren. Leider zum Negativen. Unglaublich.. ich hab noch nie ein so schlechtes Croque gegessen. Normalerweise ist das/der Croque so üppig belegt, dass ich den Mais, den ich bestelle anstatt Gewürzgurke, schon fast auffangen muss, weil er mir entgegen kommt. Nicht schlimm .. ich liebe Mais. Heute musste ich länger warten, als der Herr, der nach mir dran war. Mein Croque war Mini ! Hab mir fast gedacht, dass da was schief geht und am Auto nachgesehen, bevor ich damit nach Hause fahre. Wieder rein...dann wurde der Käse zur Seite gekratzt, damit ich den Mais sehen kann, der drunter verborgen war. Es war wenig Salat, wenig Soße...außer Salami und Käse kaum zu sehen. Ja, ich hätte eine neue Bestellung bekommen können. Damit ich nochmal so lange warte? Nicht euer Ernst, oder! Ja, die beiden jungen Männer sind neu. Normalerweise kein Problem. Dann muss man doch zusehen, dass die das richtig belegen! Nein, es war nicht zu viel los in dem Moment. Ich ärgere mich richtig über meine letzte Fünf Sterne Bewertung. Hab noch nie so schlecht von euch gegessen."

"We stumbled across this restaurant because we were moored in a nearby marina. We had no expectation of finding a decent eating establishment in the vicinity and were really pleasantly surprised to find a restaurant that exceeded our expectations to such a degree.It was the beginning of the Asparagus season when we dined here, so many of the Specials included fresh local asparagus: I had the asparagus soup with smoked salmon as a starter and my friend had the Wiener schnitzel with asparagus hollandaise - both were excellent! In fact, the entire meal was excellent!The bread was excellent; my gin & tonic was excellent; our starters were great; our main courses were brilliant; my coffee was faultless. We had a nice bottle of Malbec at a reasonable price; our waitress was lovely - and because I can't speak German she very carefully explained all the items on the menu to me. All in all, a great meal in very pleasant surroundings with excellent service at a reasonable price. If you are in the area you should try it - I am sure you won't be disappointed. Strongly recommended!"

"Ein Restaurant schafft es selten, über viele viele Jahre hinweg seinem Konzept so treu zu bleiben. Das Flair ist typisch norddeutsch und erinnert an eine typische Hafenkneipe in der die Zeit stehen geblieben scheint. Aber ich glaube genau das, schätzen die Gäste so sehr. Wir waren an einem Sonntag Abend gegen 19.30 Uhr dort und es war proppe voll. Die Servicekraft war sehr nett und flink. Ich habe mir das 850g Schaschlick für 11,90 € bestellt und es war der Hammer. Alle anderen waren mit ihren Schnitzeln auch sehr zufrieden. Wir kommen gern wieder."

"Zu zweit zog es uns wieder einmal in das griechischen Restaurant ALSSOS in Kiel. Wir hatten nicht reserviert (ist aber unbedingt zu empfehlen), wurden sehr nett empfangen und haben einen schönen Tisch bekommen. Es gab zum Einen die Nr. 132 (Gyros und Schweinefilets mit Reis und extra servierter Metaxasauce), zum Anderen die Nr. 95 (Bifteki hier auf Wunsch nur mit Reis) mit den bekannten Beilagen und jeweils einem kleinen Salat dazu. Das Essen kam heiß auf den Tisch und hat uns sehr gut geschmeckt. Vorweg und hinterher gab es noch einen Ouzo vom Haus finden wir überaus nett ! Von mir auch diesmal geschmeidige 5 !"
