"The Pony Trap is a Michelin starred country pub run by Josh and Holly Eggleton in Chew Magna, around 7 miles south of Bristol. The pub places emphasise on a field to fork ethos and source food as locally as possible from suppliers around the Chew Valley and the South West. Chef Josh Eggleton was recently on the Great British Menu and has an impressive pedigree, having worked at the likes of The French Laundry and Chanterelle. During our visit last month we ordered the tasting menu at £60 per head along with the very competitively priced wine flight at £25. A selection of canapes were delivered including pork crackling quavers with apple purée, scallipops, pan fried scallops wrapped with pancetta and a celeriac soup with cheddar foam. The latter came with a delightful Parmeasan mustard palmier. The first course was squash, Stilton and chicory with pumpkin seeds. Nice and fresh with different textures including deep fried squash. HEC – Chefs take on ham, egg and chips with home cured bresaola, hens egg and watercress."

a great place to eat and drink! an interesting menu with a lot to entice away from the ordinary. the staff was fantastic and very helpful. a good choice of beer, apple wine and wine. highly recommended to make the trip for a meal, they will not be disappointed.

Fantastic food, cosy atmosphere and good music! We went for the first time for what was a “one-off” menu celebrating European produce; considering the chefs were likely cooking with new ingredients it was really delicious and some of the best food we’ve had in the Bristol area. Not unreasonably priced and I look forward to going back to try a different menu. Visualizza piatti

the journey from the jurassic coast back to birmingham always wanted to have a stopover. it is not like the trip there when the anticipation of the sea breeze takes over and five hours in the rush hour traffic seems not too bad an idea. the journey back to reality is a grat, where work and calculations and air pollution await. we needed somewhere that is not a welcome break to recharge our internal batteries. to capture reality. to pray this miserable fool in the office that will ruin the holiday mood first on Monday morning.

The Pony Trap, located in Chew Magna, just outside Bristol, has a strong reputation and a Michelin Star, and when I booked myself a lunch there, I expected 'the usual ': a nice country pub with some well cooked food using more or less local ingredients but not too much more. What I found was a super star in the kitchen and food that was stunning. In the kitchen is owner Josh Eggleton, a young, energetic and entrepreneurial chef who is sure to become an even bigger name in UK food going forward. What was really fantastic about Josh and his food is how connected it is to his local environment. In talking about his dishes, he would tell me who supplied what and then point and say 'his farm is 5...

"Visited here in Sept 23 for an executive dinner that we were hosting for various senior business leaders. We booked out the whole venue, which was the perfect size and atmosphere for the intimate and exclusive feel that we wanted, plus a convenient location. The TV that shows into the kitchen was fascinating, and the record player was put to use towards the end of the evening! Caroline from the venue helped us organise the event in advance and was great to deal with. We were fortunate with the weather so were able to enjoy a welcome drinks reception out the front of the venue, and have the door open all evening to let the balmy night in. We had the 7 course taster menu and it was simply OUTSTANDING so many of our guests commented on how delicious it was, particularly the beef steak course! It was so tasty that I even enjoyed the fish dish (not usual for me! . Service on the night was exemplary, the courses were brought out at just the right intervals so you weren't waiting ages but also not being rushed. The chef came out to greet us after the final course, which was a lovely touch and meant we could thank him. Overall, we had really great feedback from our guests, everyone loved it thank you for making our event such a success! We would definitely book again, and I know a few of our guests have already recommended it to their own companies for executive dinners! Would not hesitate to recommend."
