"We decided to visit this restaurant as we had received a birthday voucher. We had known the previous restaurant called "Goodman's" and always loved it. Now our expectations were high, hearing of the new Asian Hato concept in ZH.We were there around 9pm and were greeted very welcoming by the Manager. We were lucky that the table next to us had already left, since the tables are so close to each other, it wouldn't have been possible to enjoy a private conversation. Our waitress didn't speak any German and switched to English. This wasn't a problem for us, but I would expect that a waiter is able to speak the local language. Also, the waitress wrote each of our orders on her little note pad down, avoiding eye contact - it reminded me more of a pizzeria style of service than a fine dining restaurant, especially if it's an order for two guests.The menu was not explained to us, the concept was not clear and in general we felt that the waiters were too busy doing other things (such as cleaning, and clearing tables of guest that had left) rather than to attend our table. We chose a bottle of red wine Hill 1 (Austrian), the bottle was brought to us by another waiter. When he pored the wine for us to try he didn't present the bottle, neither did we pay close attention, as the wine tasted really good. Only during the meal we noticed that it was the wrong bottle of wine with a similar name "Hillside"...on the bill however they charged us the Hill 1 which was 30% more expensive.Starter: We chose the Spicy Edamame, it is covered in a spicy sauce, which was missing a salt for my taste, but was good - however your hands are then covered in sauce and there is no water bowl with lemon to clean them = it got a bit messy.Second starter was the Beef Tataki dish (6 thin cut pieces) price at CHF 28. The meat was unfortunately "well done" and over cooked - the sauce was however nice. As a main we had the lamb with spinach as a side order at CHF 67 - the lamb dish consisted of 4 little pieces, (this portion as a main dish is way too small).The second main dish was the King Prawns with pepper sauce, this definitely wasn't my favourite, the sauce was too strong and you couldn't taste anything of the king prawn any more and that is a shame. Maybe serve the sauce separate so each guest can choose himself how much sauce he prefers with his dish.As a dessert we tried the Cheese Cake and Vanilla Ice Cream. The Cheese Cake.. it was served in a huge bowl, but you had to search for the Cheese Cake as it was way too small and covered by double the size decoration.Vanilla Ice Cream: was really nice, and had a lovely taste. However - why serve it in such a small bowl, when the Cheese Cake plate almost took up half of the table? Seriously, it made us laugh when comparing the two dishes next to each other, given the content was the same size..Grand final - the invoice and goodbye.. we asked politely for the bill with a third waiter from another table section (as our waitress was cleaning somewhere). We told him about the wrong wine on the bill which he changed without any comment. He then brought us the amended bill. For payment the waitress we had before came back, asked if everything was ok (a bit late by now) and we told her about the wine. Her reaction was only "oh no, how did this happen".. nothing more.. no apology. We paid, the waitress went back to cleaning.. we then stood up and left.. there was no goodbye - a real disappointment as a farewell is also key to good hospitality.To sum it up: Service was average, food was average, the portions are too small and prices too high.. we left hungry although we ate starters, mains and had dessert. I was reading up on some other reviews from this restaurant with similar comments, a shame that the replies from the Hato Restaurant are copy pasted (more marketing) and do not actually address the experiences the customers had."

The chef gave us a great experience and took us on a journey with refined and excellent menus! A lovely evening with friends but the setting of the restaurant could be revisited to justify the prices charged. Thank you for a unique culinary experience in Zurich

Food was very nice. The asian lady was super nice and kind plus the recommendation special menus. The experience that she gave us was delightful. We will definitely come back again with more friends. If you want to have the nice experience i highly recommended hato.

It sounded like that change was permanent, which limited you to only one real main dish plus a few small dishes or starters. The venue is classy but can 't make up for this. Zurich is (righly) famous for totally overpriced average food. A place where simple Pizzas can be charged the price of a good average meal in France or Italy (ok not Milan or Cannes!). Hato is not cheap, but by local standards provides a very good quality price ratio and a service that in my experience is solidly above average, with friendly, witty and smiling French waitresses. The food is good, with some special like duck salad and abundant portions (again for local std). The ambiance is cozy but unfortunately has no terrasse for summer.
