"It's always a culinary and cultural pleasure to come back to Gass 17! As soon as we are back in Switzerland, we are immediately drawn here! The dishes are divine, taste like they look, delicious, colorful, locally sourced and simply good!! Same as the ambience; The high table, from where you can watch the chef prepare something, is my favorite place and you can enjoy the warm fire right away! The best thing to do is reserve a spot online, especially when the sun is already peeking out a bit! "

"I have been living in Switzerland for 4 years and unless you go to an international restaurant all the other ones you can find have the same menukarte then same flavours, specially if you are in the countryside. But this restaurant call today Esseria...Hargarten is quite of an exception! The place, decoration, service and every detail is perfect but above all... The food! Not an extense menukarte but every dish is something special. I ate tomaten soup with kokonuss icecream: delicious combination and later Papardelle with olives and cherry tomatoe: perfect balance of flavours, fresh and warm at the same time. For dessert a nice tiramisu. I tried a bit from my husband 's meal choice: crunchy ribs that melt in the mouth and as dessert a wonderful creme brule! Fresh homemade lemonade, several teas, kindermenu great and kinder room for play. A gem in Appenzell region!"

"amazing discovery, not far from the train station appenzell train station. a friendly staff. we have let ourselves in for a fast warm drink and a sweet bake. there was also a great restaurant section. also clean toilets. for Swiss standards this is favorable. the friendly staff made this small holding place perfect for us. many thanks. they would recommend visiting this friendly restaurant."

"I recently visited Anker with friends. What a lovely spot. The decor is classic Swiss. The wait staff was helpful and friendly and spoke excellent English. The menu is varied and as I was trying to eat healty had several vegetarian choices. I had a fantastic soup followed by a local fish dish. The food was flavorful and beautifully prepared. The prices were high but Switerland is an expensive country. Reservations are a must unless you want to sit at the bar."

"Sunday at 11:05 a.m. me and my companion come to the restaurant. At the reception we were bluntly told that it was still early to eat something. However, there is no indication of when the kitchen will open. The restaurant is empty, then We chose a table for two ourselves. The waitress pointed us to another seat for two right next door that wasn't reserved. However, there was no sign on the first table we chose. She asked if we wanted something to eat. When we answered the question with yes, she said it was still very early and asked if we wanted something to drink. We left the restaurant and said a friendly goodbye the boss didn't think this was important and was quiet. Fortunately, lack of decorum as a restaurateur is an absolute rarity in Switzerland. I find it strange that a restaurant that opens at 10:00 a.m. doesn't offer food until much later. The kitchen would be expected to be open from 11:00 a.m."
