"My partner and I had a lovely 3 night stay in Sandburne Guest House, in Keswick. There are so many nice things to say about this Guest House and Anthony, our host Here are just a few: The attention to detail in the rooms is excellent Comfy beds Shower with good water pressure and rainfall setting Good quality shower products and there was even a relaxing lavender pillow spray! Soft fluffy towels Great selection of hot drinks tea, coffees, herbal teas, hot chocolate etc. in the room, with big mugs to enjoy drinking whilst looking at the ... ... Amazing views out if the bedroom window, of surrounding fells, countryside and view of Keswick town centre Stunning house with such a pretty garden Great location a short walk into Keswick Anthony was so helpful and was interesting to talk to, and it was a pleasure learning a little about his family history and their connection to the vegan society. He also had lots of information about things to do, places to eat, and local walks in the area. He gave us vouchers for a discount on a night at the theatre and an evening meal in a restaurant. Finally, a special mention regarding breakfast. This was THE BEST breakfast I have ever had in a guesthouse! There is an extensive selection of cereals and muesli, with GF options too and homemade granola. There is a choice of milk, and milk alternatives (oat), yoghurts, soya yoghurts and fresh fruits to top the muesli/granola. Great coffee and fresh orange juice too. Anthony offers a superb cooked breakfast with options such as eggs florentine, avocado on toast, a traditional'-style cooked veggie/vegan breakfast, and buckwheat pancakes topped with baked fruit all cooked with the attention to detail that runs throughout a stay at Sandburne. There is the option to have toast to finish, but we were so full that we weren't able to sample this final course! Sandburne is homely and comfortable, and I can only say positive things about our stay. We hope we will have the opportunity to return, thank you, Anthony"

I so agree with the previous posts, Anthony was so welcoming and the food was wonderful. My Husband and I just got back from our trip to Keswick and though we only stayed for 2 days, Anthony made our short trip Terrific We stayed in the larger of the two guest rooms with views of Keswick and Anthony's garden. Anthony had made us wonderful breakfast's every morning. (You HAVE to try the buckwheat pancakes, and Breakfast Scramble- Yum) and and wonderful suggestions for our hiking every day. We can not wait to go back Thank you Anthony !

the best vegan breakfast, so much choice and so well cooked, just delicious! the host, anthony, can not do enough to welcome them and make sure that their stay is nothing less fabulous. sandburne is in a beautiful opposite with stunning views and is a short walk from the city center where there are many places that serve vegan options plus 2 that are completely vegan as well. a large central exit point for the exploration of the lakes both in the north and in the south. beautiful rooms that are quiet, about looking for the well-maintained garden where they can relax time. will definitely be a good luck.

After a 9 hour journey up to the Lakes, we were delighted to be greeted by Anthony. He made us feel very welcome and immediately at home in his stunning house in the most gorgeous setting (plenty of exercise up and down the hill The vegan history of this B&B makes it truly unique in itself, but Anthony is the icing on the cake as a perfect host. Nothing was too much trouble, he judges well the fine balance between giving privacy and making conversation, provided a waterproof map and excellent walking advice, and his attention to detail with the little touches around the B&B made it an extra special stay. And the breakfasts... there are no words. Anthony is the king of vegan breakfast!! We ho... Visualizza piatti

we first visited the beautiful opposite of the sea quarter and had so much luck finding sandburne to the perfect place to stay. the room in which we were (revelin) was large and spacious, sparkling clean, great shower and very comfortable. everything is beautifully designed and you can see that attention was given to the smallest details. the house itself is beautiful and welcoming, with a beautiful garden outside. the breakfast was very good and highly recommended both the vegetarian and the vegan (especially the avocado toast and the pancake). the owner, anthony, is the most beautiful and very welcoming. he was the most helpful to explain about the opposite and gave us great tips about tra...

Sandburne is an absolutely brilliant place for veggies and vegans alike. Anthony is a very accommodating man, from putting up with us arriving late (9.30pm), obtaining decafe coffee for me for breakfast, to letting us leave our car there, and providing mugs of tea for our friend, who couldn't come out with us, after after we had officially left'! The rooms are have superb views of Keswick's mountain ranges, and very comfy beds. Teas and coffees in the room excellent quality, with ethical brands, rather than the usual Nescafe. The vegan breakfast is to live' for, and includes, cereal with loads of different fruits, yogurts etc, cooked breakfast, scrambled tofu, potato cakes, fried bread, mush...

only at home from a wonderful stay in sandburne. it is a beautiful place to stay in a beautiful part of the land. especially we have enjoyed the warm welcome we have refunded and all helpful tips for the one-and-go around in the region keswick. the old railway line offers a beautiful walk to the city center and there were also bus stops close to our room (seat as, the smaller of the two rooms) was equipped to a high standard with comfortable beds and a good shower. a bath in the communal bath over the corridor was a bonus after a strenuous hike (bathrooms were provided). we also appreciate the garden as well as the view over the garden to the stollen from the bedroom and the breakfast room.... From start to finish, what a fantastic experience. Both Anthony, and the newly refurbished B&B were an absolute delight. We stayed for 4 nights Anthony was most helpful when arranging the stay. We arrived later Friday evening had a lovely warm welcome from Anthony who showed us to our room around the house where we had other rooms to relax in admire the views. We stayed in the smaller of the twin rooms but still very spacious with beautiful shower facilities and of course beautiful views! We had everything we could have needed for our stay, the rooms are light and well equipped with regular refills of teas and coffees everyday. As it was my Birthday the following day, I opted for the Banana...

Sandburne was formerly the home of Donald Watson, founding father of The Vegan Society and his wife Dorothy and is now owned by Anthony Hazzard, Donald's son in law, who caters for vegans and vegetarians and those with added requirements like gluten free or allergies. Sandburne is just outside Keswick town centre, in a peaceful and quiet location, with plenty of parking and a bus stop nearby, if you do not want to drive or walk into town. There is a lovely garden surrounding the house and gorgeous views overlooking Keswick, with the mountains in the background. Guests are welcome to use the sitting/breakfast room, to listen to music or simply relax and enjoy the views. There is also a sittin...

"I would have loved to rate our dining experience at the Ivy House a lot higher but we were to leave somewhat disappointed. The dining area was pleasant and intimate with well appointed decor, the waitress and waiters pleasant, polite and attentive. The varied menu looked very appetising with most tastes catered for. We chose two courses from the main menu, the Duck Breast and a Fish Dish for myself. Contrary to other reviews we were to wait over 40 minutes before the food was presented to us. We were not advised of any delays or even the expected length of time we might have to wait. The food on arrival was well presented and flavoursome although I did not consider two small stem broccoli spears a serving. I also asked the waiter why there was no Samphire to accompany my dish as stated on the menu, this comment was also reinforced by a fellow diner who ate the same dish just prior to me. The waiter advised me that he would ask the chef. I did not receive a response to my question during further table service and subsequently asked the waiter again. On returning the waiter advised me the chef said “he will try to remember to put it on next time”, a somewhat disrespectful comment. The Cheese platter we were presented with was lacklustre and sparse, quince jelly and a small dish of chutney being the predominant feature. For ourselves we did not feel that our dining experience represented good value for money."
