"We had high expectations but were ultimately disappointed with our experience at this restaurant. We chose to sit in the downstairs room, which was poorly lit to the point where the waiter had to use a torch to help us read the menu. Despite ordering the deal of three tapas and a glass of wine for £25, we ended up ordering 6 tapas due to the lack of clarity on the menu. The room was so cold that we had to put our coats back on, as the sliding glass door entrance let in a constant draft. The food arrived quickly, but the quality was lacking. The gambas pil pil had large prawns in a watery sauce without any heat, making it difficult to eat. The cod croquettes had too much creamy filling and not enough cod, resulting in a messy eating experience. The sausages were swimming in a watery sauce instead of being sticky glazed. The patatas bravas were soggy and unpleasant due to being covered in a watery tomato sauce. The spicy squid and padron peppers were decent, but not enough to redeem the overall experience. We also ordered a bread basket, not realizing we would receive bread with our meal, resulting in wasted food. Despite the shortcomings, the waitstaff was attentive and tried their best to accommodate us. Although the manager was made aware of our feedback, no further action was taken beyond a simple apology. While the potential for a nice dining experience is there, improvements in heating, lighting, and cooking are needed to make it a truly enjoyable establishment."

We got a last minute booking last Friday having just arrived in Cockermouth for the weekend. The staff were so friendly and pleasant, nothing was too much trouble. Food was really great, we shared a nachos and a seafood board, lovely bottle of wine. Would highly recommend a visit

The service is welcoming and the coffee is excellent. The food is also of high quality and reasonably priced. I come here often because I enjoy it so much. The menu offers a wide selection of breakfast/brunch, lunch, and light bites, as well as tapas in the evening. Some Thursday evenings also feature entertainment.

Had an awful lunch yesterday at Shills, which is unusual. Very poor quality food. Fish goujons didn’t have any fish in all batter, chips were dry, tasted looked awful. Salt and pepper chicken was mainly coating with very little chicken and sandwiches were again poor and tasteless. Very disappointing as we were there for a special occasion. Visualizza piatti

I am in a wheelchair and have lots of dietary requirements but I found shills catered very well for both we were a family of 5 and everyone had a wonderful meal I had gluten free fish and chips followed by a gluten free lemon meringue pie. The shop also was amazing with lots of local delicacies. Great service too. Thanks for a lovely experience.

This place is amazing! The wine list is wonderful and linked to their ground floor store. There is currently a tapas deal (3 x tapas and 1x glass of house red, rose, or white) for £25. 3 of us got this and all loved it and left full. One got a vegetarian platter which was also a great selection! Cocktails were fab and so was the service (Leah was our main waitress and was so great with us throughout). Will be back for a staff Christmas party soon and very excited!
