Service is friendly, price pretty reasonable and portions generous. Definitely a pleasant dinner, and authentic Japanese food.

This quiet Japanese restaurant is authentic, offers good value and quality. It is easily accessible and likely popular with the evening crowd. Our lunch was of good quality, well-presented, and reasonably priced. We would happily return daily.

our group loved eating at shimagamo. we had tonkasu, which was cooked well and tasted super. it was served with beautiful salad and dressing, rice, miso suppe and pickel. I would recommend these restaurants for a casual lunch. it was warm and cozy at a rainy day and the service was very welcoming. I've already booked a return dinner. I hear that sushi is also very good so that I could try next time. I will work my way through the menus that it is so tempting.

We were very excited to visit Shimogamo, as it came highly recommended by not just one, but two people who either lived in Japan or had experience with Japanese cuisine. With such high praise, how could we go wrong? Our first impressions were positive, as the restaurant was bustling with activity and filled with the sounds of various Asian languages. The waitress was friendly, and we were impressed by the extensive selection of sake on display. So far, so good.

overall, it is a really good option if it is available for japanese in the camden area. I think koya still has the overall better food, but this is still in this quality range. you can also book a table and get a much more intimate atmosphere here. the portions are comparable to the Japanese kitchen in japan, but can appear small in comparison to other Asian restaurants in london. but they were more than enough for all in our group, so I can't complain. it is not the cheapest option for Japanese food, but eating was very authentic and of very good quality overall, and so justifies the price.

Shimogano opened in 2013 in a parade of shops on Camden Parkway. It is named after an ancient Kyoto Shinto shrine that is a UNESCO world heritage site. The restaurant has a small dining area and bar at ground level, the main dining room being in the basement. The décor is fairly basic, and the restaurant serves a wide variety of Japanese cuisine styles, from sushi to tempura to noodles and beyond. This slightly scattergun approach is normal in London but unusual in Japan, where most restaurants specialise, sometimes to an extreme degree e.g. some restaurants serve only eel, or only tonkatsu.
