"I was actually amazed that it was full on the midday relatiw. we had reserved and so it didn't really make a difference. our table has been waiting for us. the food was excellent - tomato snack for my man and goat cheese in ham baked for me. hauptgang was from the tageskarte - rinderfilet with pfifferlingen and summer vegetables, dessert geeister quark on forest fruits and lavendeleis on caramelized earth berry. a nice aperitif - secco with limette syrup and strawberries as well as the in-house rose have rounded off the whole. all ingredients were fresh and very well prepared. contrary to the above opinions we felt the service as very pleasant, of course the wein was gifted and asked for our satisfaction.Thanks, we come back."

"Die Qualität des Essens war in Ordnung, jedoch nichts besonderes. Die Preise hingegen sind durchaus gehoben. 62€ für eine Portion gefrorenen (habe mich bei der Bedienung erkundigt) Hummer sind meiner Meinung nach nicht angemessen. Leider wurde die Königskrabbe aus Alaska vom Menü gestrichen, war beim Internetauftritt jedoch noch so in der Karte anzutreffen.Die Hummersuppe als Vorspeise für 12€ war in Ordnung, aber nichts besonderes.Der Hauptgang mit gebratenem Thunfisch war lecker und mit 29€ preislich angemessen.Das Sorbet mit Früchten zum Abschluss lag mit 9€ im Rahmen, bot allerdings auch nur den Standart.Bei der 0,75 L Flasche Wasser wird mit 6,50€ ordentlich zugelangt. Es ist zu erwähnen, das hier natürlich auch das Ambiente mitbezahlt werden muss...Blick auf den kleinen, künstlichen See vor der Terasse, Aquarium im Essbereich, Livemusik, etc.Offenbar sieht sich das Restaurant in puncto Außendarstellung und Ambiente auf gehobenem Niveau, was sich meiner Meinung nach beim Essen jedoch nicht widerspiegelt.Die Bedienung war sehr freundlich, im höchsten Maße kompetent und bot letztlich ein höheres Niveau, als das Restaurant bzw. das Essen selbst."

"So we wanted to try out some authentic german food and our pension hostess recommended this restaurant. She made a reservation for us and we were on our way!!!The place is nice and big, with an outdoor section as well as large inside area. We as a party of 9 were seated inside after a bit of a wait trying to find a waiter or staff...there did not seem to be any greeters/hostesses around. The menu was quite comprehensive and laid out well, with an explanation of each item in english for those who did not speak german. Our waiter was very pleasant and helpfully, patiently explained the nuances of each item, despite the place being quite busy. We also informed them that we would not be eating pork and our waiter was very vigilant in pointing out when it was present. I had the turkey schnitzel which was like a breaded fried cutlet. My daughter had the steak, and my wife the creamy turkey. Some of the kids had the spaghetti and my brother had the salad with steak. In each case the portions were huge and the food of good solid quality. All the sauces, with steak, schnitzel, pasta were all very tasty and not spicy. Sadly we were too boring and no one ordered the spätzle, which is a german pasta that this restaurant is famous for, making it homemade. We later asked for a bit to try and it was delicious, so make sure at least one dish has this side!!! So a great introduction to german food. They do specialize in meats, so one should try those menu items and not be too conservative. Recommended!!!"

"Insgesamt kann man das "Au vieux Couvent" als sehr gute Adresse im Elsaß bewerten. Das Menü ist ebenso kreativ wie schmackhaft. Besonders erwähnenswert ist die Tatsache, dass im Au vieux Couvent Lebensmittel wieder in ihrer eigentlichen Form verarbeitet und serviert werden. Nach all den überkreativen Sterne-Küchen-Spielereien der letzen Jahre, ist es erfreulich, mal wieder eine Bohne in ihrer natürlichen Form auf dem Teller zu finden. Geschmacklich ist hier alles Top.Allerdings haben wir den Hauptgang vermisst - der gefühlte Höhepunkt in dem Menü fehlte. Es ging scheinbar von den Vorspeisen direkt zum Dessert. Serviert wurden dann nicht weniger als 7 aufeinanderfolgende Dessert-Gänge. Für mich eine gelungene Überraschung zum Schluss. Einzig zu bemängeln hatte ich, dass man den teuren 19 Jahre alten Grand-Cru Bordeaux nicht dekantiert sondern ohne Rücksicht auf Schwebeteilchen munter aus der Flasche eingeschenkt hat. Dazwischen wurde die Flasche dann immer wieder stehend abgestellt. Entsprechend landeten die meisten Schwebeteilchen im Glas. Das sollte in der Sterne-Gastronomie und speziell bei einem teuren Wein natürlich nicht passieren.Insgesamt ist das Au vieux Couvent aber absolut empfehlenswert und auch die Preise erschienen uns angemessen."

"An incredible experience and the first time I can really give five stars in any category. The food is great, the service is incredibly attentive and always notices when something wrong or lacks and the ambience is simply wonderful for a special occasion. With only seven tables (six small, one large), you will never be lost in your eyes. Van Nahmens soft drinks are perfectly matched to the courses. We will not forget this visit so quickly."
